I guess that might lead to even heaviers-handed policing measures when the Police Officers themselves are getting killed more and more. Something about a circle of violence springs to mind....

Preliminary statistics released today by the FBI show that 51 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty in 2014. This is an increase of almost 89 percent when compared to the 27 officers killed in 2013. (Note: From 1980–2014, an average of 64 law enforcement officers have been feloniously killed per year. The 2013 total, 27, was the lowest during this 35-year period.) By region, 17 officers died as a result of criminal acts that occurred in the South, 14 officers in the West, eight officers in the Midwest, eight in the Northeast, and four in Puerto Rico.

Eh...no. That's not what is says. Furthermore, Police officers have the right and duty to shoot people endangering their own lives or the lives of others. The vast majority of police shootings is justified and legal. How many shootings of police officers are legal?

No.

Police matched that number by January.

Actually, police mortality on the job is lower than multiple occupations, like construction and powerline/telephone maintenance.

Remember scumbag totes his gun when scumbag chooses to tote his gun.
Scumbag may choose not to wave his gun about.

Policeman has no choice but to defend society and turn up to where scumbag is toting his gun. Most would rather not have to draw their gun, most would not want to be around when a scumbag starts popping off caps, but must drive towards where scumbag is rather than stay away from.

Also remember the police have no obligation to help you whatsoever.

I guess my interpretation is, if Police Officers feel they are in more danger, they are more likely to respond violently.

The statistics seem to indicate that they (the Police Officers) are in more danger, hence why they are acting more aggressively towards suspects.

Hence, a circle of violence. As violence towards the LEOs goes up, LEOs will get more violent in response.

That's just LEO being killed. Police are better trained, armed, and protected than the people shooting at them for the most part so mortality is not the best indicator. I assure you the number of shots fired at police is much higher than police fire on the public. Prove me wrong.

What evidence is your argument based on?

I'd like to know the supporting evidence too. Every cop that I've ever known that was a decent shot, acquired their marksmanship through investing their personal time and money into it. The amount of official departmental weapons training is often laughable at best. An annual qualifying shoot of a few dozen rounds isn't going to make anybody a decent shot.

Based on previous posts, I'd say enough knowledge to know the relative impossibility to disprove his neo-authoritarian claims.

Lol, wut?? Standard issue for most police agencies is 9mm correct? Without turning this into a caliber war (we have other threads for that), Rounds much bigger than 9mm are used by a whole lot of people, and unless they've completely revolutionized body armor, those soft vests are rated to stop 9mm, not .45 (and that's just talking pistol rounds)

OK, I can somewhat agree with that since your average blood/crip "gang member" doesn't have his/her previously issued IOTV from the military and even their standard "soft vest" is better than a hoodie.

I assure you the number of shots fired at police is much higher than police fire on the public.

This was my question, less in the absolute number of rounds, more in the how many times are police shot at vs. shooting at people questions.

They were talking a bit about this on the radio on my way home, as it's national police week. According to this site a little over 100 police officers were killed in the line of duty in 2014. They were saying that every 60 hours an officer is killed, and over 10,000 more are injured every year.

so yes... 2013 had a shockingly low # of popo killed, then 2014 had a still below average #, but when compared to that really low # looks high even though its below average

im not sure you have enough info on ballistic vests if you honestly think that is true.
9mm is technically *better* at going through armour then .45 is, but the difference is so miniscule that any lvl 3 vest (standard issue for cops, at least up here) will stop both rounds, and there is not a single NIJ level of protection that stops 9mm but wont stop a .45.

Compare between .45acp pistol and 9mm Luger cartridges. The 9mm ammo fires a .353in (9mm) diameter, 115 grain (7.45 g) jacketed bullet at approximately 1150 fps (350 mps) giving muzzle energy of 338 ft lb (458 joules).

Some .45 ACP service ammo (hardball, fires a .45in (11.5mm) diameter, 230 grain (14.9 g) bullet of 800 fps (243 mps) for327 ft lb (443 joules).

Think more will die wearing the body armor (IOTV) that can stop that round. US Military does have a abundance of various sizes of body armor. No need to custom fit LEO's into it. Just cinch the straps up

Still remember the first time I flew to the US ages ago and the very first police officer I encountered just left the donut store at the airport. Laughed.

Most cops are less prepared for a gunfight than a 3rd grader who plays a lot of paintball.

This job is still less dangerous than other physical jobs such as construction. The whole noble warrior cop thing is a myth perpetuated by 90s action movies.
