Word is coming down that it started when one MC club member ran over the foot of a guy from another MC club.
And that Twin Peaks had it's franchise pulled. 2 million dollars down the drain for that owner.
Multiple SWAT teams were on hand when the fight broke out.
at least 4 of the 9 dead were from Police fire.
Multiple fatalities were due to head shots.
Really stupid of that establishment's owner to allow that gathering. He is either complicit in shenanigans with one of those OMC's or they had something on him.

No riot. That was a good old fashioned biker rumble. And in Waco. Brings a tear to my eye, I'm so proud to be a Texan.

According to the Wikipedia entry for Texas Rising, it's part funded by ITV America, which is a company owned by ITV, which is a British TV company.
Which means my TV licence money is funding a drama about Texas!!! You've got to be EXPLETIVE kidding me!!!
Texas, you're making me mad!!!
In all honesty, it'll end up on British TV, and I'll probably watch it.

One of the interesting things about Biker Gangs is tha tthe majority of them are older guys in 30's, 40's, and 50's. Many of whom are ex-military.
That is a big contrast to urban gangs and drug cartels.

Or rather they at least have bothered to practice just hitting what they shoot at and nothing else.
Gang bangers just spray and pray. Anyone can hit their target. Not everyone can hit their target and only their target.

Especially old, ex-military guys.
The other interesting thing I learned is that Bikers claim territory but they don;t really use it for much of anything. They might do a bit of small time Meth running, the occassional violence, maybe some gambling and prostitution; but it is all small time stuff. Nothing like Organized crime, Drug cartels, etc.
So, they basically fight for territory just to fight for territory.

It's the right to peaceably assemble. Large numbers of outlaw bikers coming together to settle their grievances while being armed isn't what most reasonable people would consider a way to peaceably assemble.

Definitely. But are you gonna say no to said large gangs of outlaw bikers? Its not like the owner would have had much choice in the matter unless he happened to have an MG42 and 5000 rounds under the counter.

When every white teenager I see in Walmart dresses like these bikers with a cut, bandana, and chains, then I WILL start to worry. While it's still very easy to identify the baddies who might just start shooting the place up I will just avoid said baddies.

The death count is higher, but the weapons used light. When the Scandinavian Bandidos and Hell's Angels duked it out some number of years ago they used AT weapons, assault rifles and grenades.
Still, they usually leave outsiders alone. As long as you don't kick their bikes or grope their girls they're perfectly civil people. It's the guys trying to get in that cause trouble for others. Any excuse for collecting a few assault and battery charges is a good excuse.

No, not really comparable. A lot of people have been making comparisons on this, and how the police just stood around groups of people they had arrested without doing very much and tried to compare it to the riots in Ferguson. The two are very different. This one was two groups of people intent on attacking each other, not anyone else. They were not attacking police officers, and by the look of it they were reasonably compliant once they were stopped and disarmed. They were not trying to destroy property, loot or harm anyone else. They may have done this through their actions, but it was not the intent. This was not a riot, it was a gang fight. Very different situation. If you look at gang fights that happen between black gangs you get much the same reaction, although the police tend to be a little more forceful with arrests, but they seem to have a less amiable attitude to the police (although you could argue about what is the cause and effect there).

http://news.yahoo.com/shopping-area-reopens-deadly-texas-motorcycle-gang-fight-140524720.html
AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - About 120 guns and 160 knives were recovered from the scene of a deadly Sunday battle between rival motorcycle gangs in the Texas city of Waco that left nine people dead, police said on Wednesday as they sharply dropped their tally of weapons found.
Gang members hid weapons in sacks of flour and bags of chips at the Twin Peaks restaurant, where they attacked each other in a fight that was likely set off by a smoldering turf battle, Waco Police said.
A spokesman earlier in the day said about 1,000 weapons had been recovered, but police in a later statement said that number was overestimated and the actual figure was about 320.
Those weapons included firearms, knives, clubs, brass knuckles and chains with padlocks attached to them, Waco Police said in a Facebook post.
Waco Police Sergeant Patrick Swanton told cable channel CNN: "These were vicious gang members that were in our city Sunday."
The two main adversaries were motorcycle gangs the Bandidos, seen as the long-standing dominant gang in Texas and called a criminal organization by the U.S. Justice Department, and the Cossacks, which have been challenging them for power in the state, according to experts on the gangs.
The Cossacks have canceled a rally planned for this weekend in a rural area west of Fort Worth after the local sheriff asked them to call it off given what happened in Waco, the sheriff said.
"Tensions are still running high between those two bike gangs," Palo Pinto Sheriff Ira Mercer said, adding it was the prudent thing to do.
The Central Texas Marketplace Shopping Center, with about 50 stores and restaurants located along a major highway, reopened on Wednesday after being shut following the brawl, police said.
Police have taken into custody 170 people, who are being held on bail of $1 million each on charges of involvement in organized crime relating to capital murder.
The nine killed ranged in age from 27 to 65 and a preliminary autopsy report indicated they all died from gunshot wounds, according to records made available by the McLennan County Justice of the Peace.

whembly wrote:No. It's not.

No, both cases are basically a bunch of very specific people losing their gak and getting violent, resulting in social disorder and some dead bodies. In one case you get passing media interest and a thread like this, where people mostly make jokes about the event. In the other you get weeks of hyperbolic journalism and every goddamn pundit taking up either the right wing view, "where are the community leaders?" or the left wing view, "it's all about poverty and racism, you guys". This thread has limped to two pages, while the thread on Ferguson was how many pages by the end?
The latter situation, because it involves people with black skin, means there is simply no context given to the events - a riot in a city becomes the issue of absolute national importance. Like when a black kid gets shot by a neighbourhood watch thing - apparently it's the absolute most important in the nation - anyone want to claim any of that would have happened if the kid was white?
It's just how it works. All kinds of weird gak happens and people go on with their lives, unless it's one of a few special issues and then people freak the feth out. It shouldn't be a big, contraversial statement to point out that one of the things that causes people in the US to freak out is if some or all of the people involved have black skin.
And I'm not having a go at America about this, every country does it, we all just do it about different things. Funnily enough, bikies are one of the freak out issues in Australia. Two bikies got in a fight in an airport, and it was national news. It's led to extraordinarily extreme legislation. If what had happened in the US had happened in Australia, it would be the single biggest event this year, and probably the next three years as well.
The whole thing is quite amazing, really. How different countries will develop their own little freakout issues, and elsewhere they'll be totally blase.

Meh, I could give two gaks about the police response. In this bikie shooting it seems like the cops got the situation under control, and in Ferguson, I'll be honest and say I didn't follow it enough to know if what the police did was right or wrong (and just point out that riots are always extremely hard for cops to resolve cleanly).
It's the media and social interest difference that's fascinating. Has there been anyone calling for the leaders of the white community to denounce what these bikie's did? Have the 24 hour news channels spent a week with endless roundtable discussions on what's to be done about the bikie issue?

It's the media and social interest difference that's fascinating. Has there been anyone calling for the leaders of the white community to denounce what these bikie's did? Have the 24 hour news channels spent a week with endless roundtable discussions on what's to be done about the bikie issue?
No one claims to be a "leader of the white community" because there is no "white community." Plenty of white people, in this thread even, are more than happy to denounce these idiots as thugs and criminals. In the US white people don't automatically support white people on the basis that they're white (which they weren't anyways. A large portion of one gang is Latino).

Now if you'll just start to put all the pieces together.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something. |

Excellent job ignoring the majority of that post. Brownie points for the vague and meaningless #greaterthanthou reply as well.
