Sweet! I love the Mk2 Viper, well done!

Just realised that it is 1/72 scale. Is that a new kit, I only knew about the 1/32 version?

Inspector #264 it is a few months old now. Moebius is going to release a 1/72 scale Cylon Raider in June to go with this.
Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Well then that is another couple of kits to add to the list, thanks for the reply!

Does anyone know of a 1/48 scale Viper mk II or have a guide to convert to a Xiphon Fighter (forgeworld model)

Do you think they could be talked into doing a 1/72 scale Galactica to go with it?

I think there is enough room in the parking lot...

That would be, what, about 150yards long at 1/72 scale?

I believe it would only be about 20 yards.

By the Wikipedia length, yes.

I overestimated it a bit in any case. I was looking at the "All the Universe's Starships" poster, which has the newer BSG as being about 2x the length of the original series, which was supposed to be about two miles long (from the Starlog #1 issue from the 1970's). That would still make it only about 120yards (and, it would be 20meters, which is about 20yards).

Still... I don't think the other residents would like me parking a Battlestar in the parking lot... But at least it would fit.

Maybe I can build a 1/72 launch tube.

I wonder how they replaced the air that escaped on every launch?

Until this post I was only aware of the 1/32 Kit and the small Micro Machines Titanium model.

I would be in for a 1/72 kit, but only if free shipping was provided.

I have kits of both the original series Galactica and the 'new' Galactica in 1/4105 scale, the original version dwarfs the ‘new’ one easily.

There are various estimates for the original, which put it between 2 and 5 miles in length.

But for some reason, the "All the Universe's Starships" artist made the new one about 2x the size of the old.

I believe the wikipedia length comes from a post from the person who did the computer model for the TV series. I think it was 22 yards. which is why I said "about 20 yards". But the "real" size would be about 1.5km, I can't see any references online suggesting that it'd be bigger than that. 120 yards would be around 5 miles, I haven't seen any estimates that put it around that size.

Comparing the original series Galactica is hard because the only estimates we have (as far as I'm aware) come from scaling it against the ships flying around it or the launch tubes and the original series was not consistent, estimates vary wildly. It seems to be about 4000ft (0.75 miles) based off the size of the launch tube openings and landing pods. The estimates that are around 2 miles come from scaling it based on the fighters circling the ship in some scenes.... but it seems to me they just mixed the scales of models for some of these scenes which is why there's a huge discrepancy. This dude did a long analysis of it..

I haven't seen the poster of which you speak, but maybe the discrepancy between the modern BSG and the old BSG come from some old publications that stated it was a measly 2000ft which would place it at about half the size of the modern BSG that is 4740ft.

Either way, I think 1.5km is a good guess, so a bit over 22 yards... the length of a cricket pitch.

Though I could picture it being larger than that, given 1.5km is only as long as a medium to short length runway. Not sure if anyone has tried to guess the length of the modern BSG based on the size of launch tubes or adjacent vipers or something.

Thought I would post up a quick pic of the 'head' size difference from the model kits. Both kits are 1:4105 scale.

Spoiler:

Old Galactica on top, new on bottom.

I really need to finish her up!

Really nice to see someone has posted up some BSG! I was just looking at this kit a few days ago wondering whether I should get it or not considering you get two in the kit. I noticed in your build you masked off the kit in order to paint the red stripes. Are decals included in the kit and if they are, are they good quality?
I have to say I love what the pre-shading has done to the kit, it adds a lot of depth to the model. Also, excellent work on the LEDs in the thrusters and the cockpit! Maybe post some more pictures of the finished piece here rather than just have a link to the build, you'll find a lot of lazy people won't bother opening a link!

Tyranid Horde thanks for viewing and commenting. The kit has decals that appear to be good quality. I just like airbrushing so I make and use mask. There is a similar kit
coming out for the Cylon Raider. Should look good next to
the Viper. When I build the Raider I will post more photos
here. I nave very limited modeling space so I like the smaller scales. Thanks again for viewing and commenting.
