It's a shame because I really want to like this artefact, but the cost is just baffling. I think it could easily have been 10pts. I mean, Fear and IWND are more flavourful than actually useful. And, 10pts to upgrade a 5++ to a 4++ on a T3 model hardly seems OP. At the very least, it shouldn't have been more than 15pts.
My personal favorite of the MOST useless though, has to be the laurels of command. 25 points and everyone near 6" of you can choose to fail/pass their morale test which could be fine, except that when you have blobs you usually have a priest in that blob so they can't fail anyway OR you have a commissar, in which case if you actually wanted to fail the test, the commissar would instantly *BLAM* your men and you'd auto pass anyway, so the relic does absolutely nothing. Worse, it actually even causes pinning test for all your men within 6" if the wearer dies.
I agree, though honestly, I think most of the IG relics are pretty awful.
The Tactical Auto-Reliquary seems garbage as well, and the Blade of Conquest is worse than a Power Axe and 10pts dearer.

Instead of that black mace, why don't you take god knows what psychic power that you will probably never use and give up some of those useless wounds on your HQ! Fluffy!
This is so wrong. I run the scrolls in almost every list I play, and they have won me many games with the insane power combinations I've managed to get.
My vote goes to the dimensional key.
You need to kill an enemy in melee for it to activate (most likely end of turn 2 at the earlier) then once you have done this, friendly units can deep strike without scattering within 12 of the bearer.
Problem is if your reserved actually come in on turn 2, it turns into a waste.
The only saving grace is that it makes the ground around the bearer difficult and dangerous terrain which is kind of meh even still.

Well... at least the Deathmask does something. Expensive, but not useless.
Laurels is good if you don't want to take a Priest, or Commie. It's handy if you want to load up on HWS behind an Aegis. For 25 points, none of them will run away. Sure, they'll still die, but at least they'll die where you put them!
For 25 points you can, instead of firing a weapon, throw an 8" grenade that is AP2 and has the Instant Death special rule!
It's only Strength 1, but hey, you could totally smoke those Termagants on a 6!
Does it always wound on a 6? Is it usable each turn? If not, yeah that maybe the worst. Otherwise, it could be pretty good. Kill a 6 wound MC with one hit.
I want to nominate the Norn Crown for its insane cost for what it does. 40 points for +6 to synapse, which doesn't affect Shadows of the Warp range.
But The Ymgarl Factor is just as bad. 40 points for +1Str or +1Attack or improve armor by 1, chosen at the start of each assault phase, cannot choose the same twice in a row, and only lasting until the end of that assault phase.
For 25 points you can, instead of firing a weapon, throw an 8" grenade that is AP2 and has the Instant Death special rule!

Strength 1 can't hurt anything above T4.

It does not. So only useful against a couple HQ choices from about 4 armies.
Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.
Gozer the Gozerian, Gozer the Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar, Gozer the Traveler, and Lord of the Sebouillia
I am voting Norn Crown. At least the majority of the other relics on here do things at some point. Might not be GOOD at killing a thing but capable.
NC doesn't do that. It's 40 points for 6inches of synapse. Nid players build synapse redundancy into their synapse web. If 6 inches more is what I needed to survive I am dead anyway. And those 40 points spent elsewhere might have prevented me from getting into that position to begin with.
These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Not when they cost as much as a priest or commissar.
Except when you leverage the benefit to multiple units. A Priest holds one unit. The Laurels can hold 10. If you have 5 units to leverage, you're paying 5 pts per unit for the upgrade, instead of 25 pts per unit. And you can still go to ground.

But wait, you forgot that it gives you relentless! Because all of these things are SO WORTH IT, when you can just take the Shield Eternal instead and have a 3++ and IW and a bike which gives you relentless, and makes you move faster, you could waste it on this. 3x as much as artificer armor people.
Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.
Whoops disregard. Misread the entry for the Armour Indomitus.
I'd have to agree with the consensus on the Norn Crown being the worst. Just taking more synapse creatures, using the primaris power of the Tyranids or even via a Tyranid warlord trait like the Swarmlord would be better options than that 40 point sink.

Indeed it does. Synapse is pretty tame too now sadly, since its more like a way to prevent instinctive behaviour moreso than any kind of real buff especially since most TMC are fearless base already. It'd be nice if they took a page from DoW2's take on Synapse and diversify it to have different units give different forms of synapse (i.e. Tyranid Warriors/Prime give off melee synapse like +1WS to those within its range that doesn't have synapse, Tervigon gives off a range/shooting synapse that gives +1BS instead and presumably these wouldn't stack on top of each other).

I really like this idea. It's also fluffy - the more intelligent creatures take control of the relevant functions in the swarm.

Glad you like the idea! Knowing GW's recent trend though, I doubt they'll add this sort of depth to the main underlying rule and just rehash all the formations from the Leviathan/Deathstorm expansions into their new codex. A pity, given that the Tyranids are supposedly the most adaptable race, yet have little to nothing to show for it.

Erik Morkai's great company 6k
dark mechanicus, the dearth of hope, 8k
rothwyr morwan's company 1,5k
Adeptus custodes 2k
AoS, The forgotten order, SE, 3k

Not when they cost as much as a priest or commissar.
Except when you leverage the benefit to multiple units. A Priest holds one unit. The Laurels can hold 10. If you have 5 units to leverage, you're paying 5 pts per unit for the upgrade, instead of 25 pts per unit. And you can still go to ground.
That's because you look at it from a points perspective and not from how it actually works.
You don't ever want to NOT take a priest with your conscripts, because not only does the priest make them fearless, he also gives them hatred and access to battlehymns that can be used either as a means to boost their attack or making them VERY good at tarpitting (re-rolling saves).
A commissar is good for a normal squad for several reasons: He makes them practically fearless while maintaining the option of GTG and he adds a good leadership value, which is crucial for orders, otherwise you'd practically be forced to pay for 2 Vox's minimum. Furthermore, in order to maintain your influence you better be playing Eternal War missions, because otherwise you're kindda' forced to move your CCS along with the rest of your army, which is something you'd rarely ever want to since you want to hide them for as long as possible and stay out of LOS.
Lastly, if you actually have several squads with no commissars/priests, all of which are dependable on your character with Laurels and will all suffer massive pinning tests with low leadership values, then your character won't have a bullseye on his head for being able to give orders, he will have a massive neon sign floating over his head that reads: "KILL THIS FIRST".

I'm going to concur with the Orb of Despair. As a DE player, I remain convinced that its rules are typo/mistake/horrible cosmic joke, which GW is too embarrassed to admit to, hence the reason they haven't fixed it. If it were a free upgrade, it still wouldn't be taken. That's how bad it is.

"I told you we should have followed the instructions." Said Archon Tha'ris, as yet another orb of despair burst with a disappointing pop and faint 'woooooooo' noise.
"And I told you there weren't any!" Shouted Haemonculus Veristar. "If there were any The Duke took them with him... along with everything else. He picked up another orb and began tinkering with it irritably.
Tha'ris nodded, his hand reaching to where he'd always kept a venom blade, back before the Duke had taken all those useful toxins with him. Now it was just... well.... a blade. He might as well have kept a bread-knife as his backup weapon.
"In any case, could you at least take another look at this Huskblade. It's still not working properly."
Veristar sighed, tossing the orb at a nearby slave. It burst on the creature's head with all the impact of a balloon. There was a puff of smoke and 'life is pain' seemed to float by on the edge of hearing. Shaking his head, Veristar took the Huskblade and made some sweeping motions with it. "It looks alright. What's supposed to be wrong with it?
"Try cutting something with it."
Veristar attempted a cut at his workbench. It got about an inch, then got stuck.
"It used to cut through the finest armour in the imperium. Now it's stuck in a table."
Veristar attempted to remove the blade, but it was now stuck fast. He gave up, "I'll look at it later."
"By the way, what happened to all those apprentice haemonculi you used to have? I thought this sort of thing was their job."
"Didn't you hear? They spontaneously combusted the moment the Duke left. It's just us ancients left now."
"That's unfortunate. Still, could be worse I suppose. Remember what happened to poor old Sathonyx?"
"It was his own fault. They all told him you couldn't fly a Skyboard after seven pints, but he just wouldn't listen."
"The Djin Blade's up for auction again, by the way."
"Really? Vorek's tired of it already?"
"Not exactly - it's being auctioned by his Court. Apparently he was fighting some sod with a massive hammer, and the demon inside chose a really inopportune moment to break his shadowfield."
"They saw that?"
"Not exactly, they just pieced it together when they found his body. Although 'body' is a bit of a stretch - I've heard that they were only able to identify him because he was still holding that Djin Blade."
"I see. And do you plan on bidding for it?"
"Hah! I'm having enough trouble with my non-sentient equipment."
"Oh? You think you have problems? Take a look at this" Veristar raised his third arm, which ended in a Liquifier Gun, and pointed the weapon at another slave. The apparatus shuddered for a moment, then with a sound like 'thrrrp' a viscious brown liquid oozed out, dripping in a puddle at the Haemonculus' feet.
"See? What good it this?"
"But... I mean... doesn't that thing fire your own blood?"
"What do you think I'm worried about?!"

God damnit Vipoid, you're making me sad that I'm only able to exalt once!
But also glad that I sold my DE army. 20+ Hellions + a heavily converted Baron, nearly 20 more Trueborns with carbines, painfully acquired through ebay/buying boxes and my beloved Duke conversion, who is now good for nothing but being a blaster gunner and WWP holder, all invalidated and shat upon.
Then came the realization of being forced to invest 500+ $ of more DE, in order to have an even remotely working army.. Yeah.. My butt still hurts, thank you for asking!
