Yeah, I've been wondering if GW was going to start reigning in the codex creep a bit or if they were doubling down of FOTM overpowered nonsense. I fear that question has been answered.

Guess there's always the CSM codex to start halting the codex creep.

Anyways, with that big suit, I'd be shocked if it wasn't a 2+ armor, T7-8, 4++, str D blast. Hell, it'll probably be ~350 points to boot.

It damn well better have WS1 at the very least, or perhaps even WS0, because IT HAS NO ARMS.

The people that want to use it will use it

Im way more interested in this stealth aspect that they seem to be working on.

i always loved that stuff.

First thing I thought when I saw the big guy was, "Metal Gear!?". Affect a David Hayter voice as needed.

Anyway, looks cool. I was trying to resist getting into Tau. I don't think I will succeed.

There is infinity other reasons why i hate it.

how impractically impractical it is. for all that non direct fire power they bother putting it on a MC chassis. it would of been better suit for a grav platform like a hammer head.

i still hate the separate weapon chest systems,

it has a tiny head

it has a terrable pose

it looks like some dude chucked bits on it

it has a LOT of unique looking equipment.

it lacks any sort of arm. or manipulator. (the second it falls over its out of action.....)

i dont mind the torso and leg shape on there own. but the weapon system being on the arm and it not having any arms bothers me too much.

100% agree that for Tau it looks ridiculous and unfitting for their design aesthetic. Now as a mech in BattleTech it looks fairly good (just remove the head and reinforce those ankles) but I didn't play Tau to play MechWarrior. GW seems to love these impractical poses to make it look dynamic when in reality it should be struggling to stand up. No way those ankle joints can support that weight let alone that pose.

At least they didn't put a crisis suit inside a bigger crisis suit.... yet.

Actually its an AV15 structure because GW is tired of people not using the destroy structure maelstrom objective

I'm thinking that the missle batteries might turn out to be blast weapons, similar to the forgeworld HH turret. Probebly 2 S7AP4 LBs.

Well, there goes any hopes of ever being able to play against Tau again, along with the hopes of reigning in this powercreep LoW madness.

Hell, might as well write my army off. If Tau where overpowered before then now they are an army of pure nope.

Runnin up on ya.

Tau haven't been OP for a while now....

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

MoO, could you please make a new thread in GD if you want to complain about tau, I know you hold your beliefs rather strongly on that front, but I we'd all like to stay with our hype, not get bogged down in arguments.

Tau certainly aren't OP any more, but they're by no means bad.

I imagine that the biggest shakeup we will see, in terms of the while "competitive" scene, is just the addition of some D weapons, a shift in the way that markerlights work (probably moving towards smaller, but more widespread bonuses), and some additional cheap, high strength, shooting.

I'm guessing that it will be ridiculously overpowered, which will mean that it's perfectly balanced against most of the 2015 Codices, so there shouldn't be much to worry about. When everything is OP, nothing is.

Honestly, I think I'd take the torso of the Stormsurge and put it on top of a hammerhead. Would look way better, imo.

Tau have been a top tier army since their last book, on par with Marines and a bit behind Eldar.

My point is that there are armies that need an update far more than the Tau do. The Tau are currently in the top 4 and can hold their own against all but the most matured of cheese.
Compare this to the Imperial Guard and the Sisters of Battle whom might as well not exist as playable armies because they are so weak.

I am not saying that this update was not needed - there where some areas that the Tau lacked in, and the new kits do look amazing, but there are armies more deserving and more in need of an update first.

They were fine through 7th up until Decurion, now they don't really register against Eldar, Admech, and such. There is one specific Farsight list that does alright based on the gimmick that literally every single model in the army has interceptor as a hard counter to Skyhammer and Drop pod Skitarii. But one list does not a codex make.

The first picture is a mixture of my own model (picture three) and a model I got from a Kickstarter (picture two without missiles)

Sisters is a pipe dream and has been for years now. And Tau currently holds the oldest codex (apart from Sisters), not that that really mattered as Space Marines got updated twice between the Tau updates.

Cool your jets, brah. Your army will get a turn too. At least IG and Sisters can battle brother with literally half the codecies in the game.

I don't like those models at all. The first is too anime inspired and the second looks too much like an imperium of man mech just add skulls.

Edit
Tau Empire has been irrelevant for a long time now. It's been FSE with a small contingent of TE that's been the real tournament factor. Even then the best list possible only placed us 4th. At the latest tourney results Tau finally had a sub 50% win rate. So this upgrade comes just in time.

You might find that the wait is worth it; as a Blood Angels and Orks player, I'd do anything to NOT have had my codices updated until later. Nothing like playing a 7.0 Edition army in a 7.5 & 6.0 Edition meta!

Pretty sure thats not a new crisis suit kit, I think thats the existing crisis suit commander model that was released when the cirrent codex dropped.

Are we really already complaining about new Tau being OP when we literally just got half a dozen pictures and no rules whatsoever to go on? I can understand complaining about Tau (whether or not it will be warranted) when we actually start getting rules leaks, but all we have to go on right now is a single picture of each new model. We know nothing about either of them beyond their names and their appearance. Can we please keep the conversation focused on what we actually have at the moment?

I personally am tired of seeing every single Tau thread on dakka be derailed into a blind hatred jerkfest by the same five or so people, especially when the conversation goes the exact same way every single time.

I thought so too, but if you compare the pose, groin, chest, and "gorget" plating and shoulder you'll see they're different. There's one on either side of the new stormsurge.

Honestly loving the new models but I think I'm most excited for the new XV8s
