I personally am tired of seeing every single Tau thread on dakka be derailed into a blind hatred jerkfest by the same five or so people, especially when the conversation goes the exact same way every single time.
Yeah, so really, can we not?

Prepare yourselves, for the storm of hate is coming, and none shall escape its wrath.
On topic, I actually like the looks of the new Riptide variant. The new Stealth Commander suit may point to Stealth Suits getting buffed. The Fire Warriors also look a lot better too. Let's just hope that it's appropriately costed and that massive cannon isn't a D-weapon.

Grav-plates hummed to life, and high-tech rifles snapped to attention. They all begin to move at once. It was a grey tide, and a black tide, and a red tide, as many different colorations of units moved at once. Hands not far removed from their fish ancestors held onto triggers and floated in amniotic tanks in the hearts of battlesuits. Their commander, a mile tall in their perspective, begin to speak.

I am not saying that this update was not needed - there where some areas that the Tau lacked in, and the new kits do look amazing, but there are armies more deserving and more in need of an update first.
Sisters is a pipe dream and has been for years now. And Tau currently holds the oldest codex (apart from Sisters), not that that really mattered as Space Marines got updated twice between the Tau updates.
Cool your jets, brah. Your army will get a turn too. At least IG and Sisters can battle brother with literally half the codecies in the game.

Very good, except for the fish ancestor part. Still not sure why people don't understand Tau are humanoid mammals. The "fish" themed names for their suits and vehicles are Imperial designations.

From those angles the flyers actually look good!
(yeah, looks like the current flyers....oh GW, give us a plastic barracuda, and we will give your our child's college funds...).
A bit on the fence on the new missile suit - hopefully he has some strong weapons, and is not OP. (I don't need more s5 or s7...).
The new stealth suit, it looks kind of cool, again hoping for solid rules.
A bit excited about the new infantry - although I have plenty of firewarriors - maybe new guns?
I hope the same thing I hope for all new books - a strong codex which supports many good builds, that is not OP.

What new flyer? I see a Razorshark and Sun Shark in the background of one of the images but don't see anything else in the air in the other pictures.
The current razor shark is based on the bomber kit and looks nothing like the winged flyer in the pictures. The art in the rule book matches that model in the pics though.

It's the same model from way in front and below.

I'm going to guess that this new 'riptide' isn't actually a riptide at all. It's going to be a superheavy style suit. If you look at the waist, there is a lot more detail on it than a regular riptide waist. Also it's designation is XV128, and since the designations are based on size, this one is actually a lot bigger than the Riptide is. I would expect the XV95 to be about the same size as a hazard suit as well.

I just flipped through the tau book, and all of the pictures that feature a razorshark look like the model. On its page the back part looks a little different, but that's only because of the angle and the main gun/beam obscure part of the back, but you can see it's there just like the model.

I thought so too, but if you compare the pose, groin, chest, and "gorget" plating and shoulder you'll see they're different. There's one on either side of the new stormsurge.
Honestly loving the new models but I think I'm most excited for the new XV8s
Definitely new models, they look a bit more pose-able with some more detail - but the basic chest/leg/head/arm/shoulder shape is still the same. Same silhouette, slightly better kit.

Yeah, the shoulder pad is a different shape (more curved like the Forgeworld ones than the enforcer pad) and the enforcer commander suit has actual hands with fingers whereas those look to have the normal recessed hands that don't go past the wrist like the current suits. Those are the super easy ways to tell but there are more subtle ones. They're definitely not the same as anything that has already been produced (and I've got a bit of experience with the enforcer suits, normal crisis suits, and the xv89's: see my blog link below). It's either a detailed conversion or (more likely at this point) a new standard crisis suit that incorporates some of the aesthetic changes the enforcer introduced (like the shoulder pad).

I agree. Tau'nar being 139 and both FW 'tides being smaller than 11X would mean this is going to be a Gargantuan/SHW, and the loW choice of the codex.

Also, for people that don't care for the no-arm stormsurge, I imagine you can convert it with riptide arms. And that's assuming it doesn't have any variants in the box. *and* forgeworld doesn't make extra bits for it like they've done for the riptide

Not to be pedantic but forgeworld doesn't make "extra bits" for the riptide. They make full kits and they don't even bother including the full riptide box with them despite the price. If they make a variant of this, it'll likely be very expensive with no options. If anyone might make an arm, it would be a third party like Paulson.

From that size, the missiletide has GOT to be a LOW. It'll also lose a standup robot fist fight to a knight like Peter Dinklage fighting Mike Tyson. It could look nice if you gave it arms, turned its gun into a rifle, and put not stupid looking missile pods on the shoulders. Then it would look good.
That Xv9 stealth suit though.... Is that a CIB on its arm? Something similar, probably slightly larger but fast ROF.

I have to wonder if the missiles are going to be a high ROF missile pod similar to the HYMP, or a blast weapon, similar to the FWHH missile turret. I'm personally hoping for a blast weapon, that it will focus more towards the anti-heavy infantry role, whereas the big guns(?) would be anti-armor.
Edit: wow, I forgot I just said that
