One thing regarding the cockpit we havent seen yet is the female counterpart rumor.
Thats one thing about 40k i always wished was more common: female versions without requiring heavy kitbashing. The only female Tau model we got atm is Shadowsun. I saw a kitbash someone did for a female Ethereal and i reeeaally wanted that model lol looked amazing.

On the Shadowsun note, i could totally see some special rule where shes equipped with one of these as well as other experimental crap. I love Shadowsun, but shes about as limited as Farsight because the unit she wants to be with either doesnt exist or isnt that amazing for the way she plays. Stealth suits have terrible gun loadouts.
On top of that, with all these large suits i could conceivably see us getting an MC HQ as it is. And this one just fits Shadowsun's playstyle perfectly.

Then again, all of our named HQs are pretty crap. Either rulewise or such a unique method of attack they dont mingle well with others.

Also, it should seem monstrous next to the Stealth Suits lol. Stealth Suits are barely bigger than firewarriors, this thing is bigger than a Broadside. It is, after all, a monstrous creature.
The redone XV8s probably wont be much bigger at all. I imagine their arms/legs will be thicker but i doubt they'd be any taller (thicker because of joints)

There's quite a few third party female Tau figures. They are quite good.

Well is this one of those Bols things or should I actually start to be optimistic?

It may just be a head and not a torso which is kinda disappointing... but I need to wait until we have spruce pictures.

3 suits for $75 is a pipedream, no matter how you spin it, with the size of the Ghostkeel.

These aren't Centurion sized. These aren't even Kastelan sized. These are Riptide sized from the looks of it.

Not quite, but they're somewhere between a Broadside and a Riptide.

Its 75USD for one Suit, two Drones. Yes its three models, but theyre not the same model.

If that was seriously 75USD for a full squad....i wouldnt believe it. GW isnt that nice, even though i bet they could still turn a profit with it that low.

Crisis Suits are barely cheaper than that and significantly "less cool so not as expensive". With the old suits theyre 65USD for a trio, which im willing to bet will jump with the new suits (if that is a thing).
75USD is still a bit pricy imo but its not TOO bad. Stormsurge is just straight up stupid at that price, so i definitely will utilize discount places to get those rather than buy at my FLGS (which i prefer to do) at full price. I'll buy my Ghostkeels there, because i prefer to support the ONLY FLGS i got lol.

You sir have never knew a serious knitter. I shared your thoughts with my wife and she had a good laugh. A sweater kit is around $150-$300 and my wife can knit one out in less then a month.

Lol oh i know yarn still costs a fair bit, my sister-in-law does a lot of crocheting. I never considered it to be a big spending hobby though.

I'll probably be picking up a single ghostkheel for harassment, but the stormsurge doesn't really have a place in my current Tau army.

I really want to see what they've done to the crisis suits. In particular I would really like to see a coldstar battlesuit and its rules. I'm hoping they give us a way to make crisis suits troops ... or at least update/re-release farsight enclave rules.

Why do you need them to be troops? Just take the pretty much guaranteed Crisis Suit formation with its free bonuses and have no need for a slot.

Not every place uses formations. Ive used an ork formation once, never any tau ones (the few we have) and i seldom face them except for Necrons (feth that damn 4+ reanimate...)

Neat! To me that really boosts the likelyhood of Shadowsun having this option, I don't know why they'd include that head otherwise.

As for the price, it's slightly less than a Riptide (at least in USD) for a slightly lower price. I think that's about right, no? Not saying it's not frelling expensive (because it always was going to be), but it doesn't seem outside the realm of reason all things considered. Sucks that it's expected to be Squadron-ed.

This is all getting extremely frustrating.

I would like to begin a Tau army but assuming the "new fire warriors" replace the old fire warriors, it is now impossible to begin collecting a Tau army until the new releases drop. Unless you're happy to buy outdated models.

I could have been buying any of these:
- Fire Warriors / XV8s but refuse to, as it looks likely that the models are about to be replaced.
- Pathfinders, XV88s, XV25s or a Battlesuit Commander. But can't because they are no longer / not currently available.
- Kroot, daren't as they may be cut from the codex and placed into a new one, like Harlequins were.

The only option seems to be to buy a Hammerhead variant or a Riptide, which isn't in my opinion a great place to start.

If someone could point out a hole in my argument I'd be extremely grateful.

There isn't a hole, in that it's never smart to start a brand new army just before it has a release slot

it wasn't during the old system when GW dumped all the info at once

it isn't now

but at least you can't order a lot of those 'outdated' boxes direct from GW (although if you go to almost any online GW reseller they will probably still have them).. I remember the bad old days when they'd sell you the old codex, and a bunch of models that would be nerfed into shelf filler only they day before the new releases dropped, this is far more civilised (although since you know there is more to come you have to have a little more patience and live for 3-4 weeks knowing more is coming)

I hear you. I am in the same boat. But really, you can start now! I for one know I want a riptide. So I will go buy it. I also know I like the upcoming Ghostkeel. I like the FW crisis suits. If you do like I plan on doing, you can buy a little at a time, assemble, paint, etc... and not feel rushed to go buy a 2,000 point army all at once... Take it slow, the modsels will release, and the codex, so there is a benefit to this pace!

Truthfully, I'd consider it a blessing in disguise.

Why? Because, purportedly, you're going to be seeing a campaign box next week which you could split with a Space Marine player(who doesn't know where to find one of those guys, right? ) that if it follows in the steps of Stormclaw and Deathstorm will give you a sweet looking HQ option and a small force that will be playable right out of the box, with each unit having unique rules and a formation of that force which you can utilize as something to supplement whatever full army list you end up getting later on.

Additionally, you'll almost assuredly be seeing a big box similar to the $160-$230 boxed sets that each army has gotten that give you the start of a list(usually clocking in at around 1k or so points) which have a built-in savings of roughly a boxed set or blister.

At this juncture, I sincerely doubt you'll be seeing Kroot cut from the codex. The reason Harlequin were cut is because they were shared across two books, and with design times being what they are it meant that they would have two wildly different statlines for the same units across two books.

Making them their own book and expanding their options was a much better choice, IMO. The prices on the kits could have been dropped significantly though.

I don't expect the current FWs to be replaced, I think this new helmet is for the breacher unit. The current FWs look great, they only need to make new molds and clean up the sculpt.

Neat,

Looks like the suit has two separate parts that open up to reveal the pilot; one up front and one that goes over his head like a bucket full of displays. (You can see the green display screens)

I'm guessing the suit's head is then mounted on top of that.

I like the armor contouring to the female anatomy but im not one for the "im wearing shoulderpads, that counts as armor right?" type appearance. Its pleasant looking but it makes no sense in practicality lol.

Admittedly part of the problem with female tau is almost the entirety of the difference between male/female is the face. You could easily just say a squad of firewarriors are female with their helmets on, and there wouldnt be any proof which way or another. Shadowsun doesnt look like a woman at ALL when her helmet is on (which is why i left it off). Admittedly shes wearing more armor than a firewarrior, but the legs still look masculine.

I do like those head bits though. I might grab a few bunches of those and set up another squad of firewarriors/breakers using those heads. Considering the only diversity between my squads right now is color coding on the shoulderpads and helmet lol.

For me the pilot on display will get a simple headswap and have some alterations done to the torso itself to make it look more generic.

Now, where to find female kosmonaut heads?

Easily.
Get the old firewarriors - as a matter of fact, they should be cheap on ebay soon.
They are perfectly serviciable, just wait to build the arms until you read the new dex, incase the pulse rifle changed.

I am sure if you walk into a store, you will find pathefinders, xv88's etc. Especially at non-gw stores.
Just because they are "not available" on the incredibly over priced corporate webstore, does not mean they have disappeared.
Easy.
Kroot - even if they get cut, they can't get much worse, and are cool models. And we have seen ZERO indication that they are cut.

Get a skyray and model it to be either a hammerhead, devilfish or skyray - its an incredibly versitile kit, and easy to do.
Get a piranha, good use in games, even with the old terrible rules - they might even get better.
Get an ethereal, they are an iconic tau character - sure they won't change much.
Get a riptide - while they might not be amazing, they are still going to be good.
Get stealth suits - more than likely going to get a boost - get them. Just don't glue the weapons on unitil you get the new dex.

Go to forgeworld, and get a barracuda - AMAZING model, and actually good flyer rules - and pick up IA3 while you are at it, the story is actually a fun read (it gives some good insights into the REAL weakness of the imperium...not chaos, not tyranids, not necrons or even tau....heh).

Start testing paint schemes on other models, pick your colors, your basing etc. There are tons of things you can do....the only limits, are in your own mind.

best of luck, for the greater good!
