This is all getting extremely frustrating.

I would like to begin a Tau army but assuming the "new fire warriors" replace the old fire warriors, it is now impossible to begin collecting a Tau army until the new releases drop. Unless you're happy to buy outdated models.

I could have been buying any of these:
- Fire Warriors / XV8s but refuse to, as it looks likely that the models are about to be replaced.
- Pathfinders, XV88s, XV25s or a Battlesuit Commander. But can't because they are no longer / not currently available.
- Kroot, daren't as they may be cut from the codex and placed into a new one, like Harlequins were.

The only option seems to be to buy a Hammerhead variant or a Riptide, which isn't in my opinion a great place to start.

If someone could point out a hole in my argument I'd be extremely grateful.

I hear you. I am in the same boat. But really, you can start now! I for one know I want a riptide. So I will go buy it. I also know I like the upcoming Ghostkeel. I like the FW crisis suits. If you do like I plan on doing, you can buy a little at a time, assemble, paint, etc... and not feel rushed to go buy a 2,000 point army all at once... Take it slow, the modsels will release, and the codex, so there is a benefit to this pace!

Don't feel forced to buy new boxes the pathfinders, fighter n bomber kit as well as broadsides should be okay

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Fish people with arms and legs...

Perhaps Tau are actually aquatic mammals like dolphins?

That would explain the boobage.

Since they started to walk on land, apparently.

Some better pictures:

The Ghostkeel details in non-mini. On closer examination, I *love* the open cockpit:

Curious about how big Ghostkeel is? A little smaller than a Riptide (keep in mind the crouching position). Same size base I think:

How about Stormsurge vs IK? Here they are side-by-side. Minigame is called, "Godbreaker Clash"... but if this were 40k, my bet would be on the IK

Since when does the Imperium giving Tau wargear marine codenames imply that Tau are literally fish?

It comes from 4Chan's TG board. There was a tactic called fish of fury using devilfish it kinda went on from there.

Lol. Fish of Fury was a thing before /tg/ existed. And I guess so was people not reading the fluff and making insane conclusions, but oh well.

Yes. 'Fish of Fury' was so named because it required the use of the Devilfish.

From the text here it seems they haven't shown us the female head. I kind of figured they didn't. The head everyone is saying is female is actually a dude.

Well, plains. And it's not a one biome planet either, there are mountains, and oceans. But yeah, nothing suggests they are any more fish people than we are (after all, life on earth originated in the primordial sea).

It's the Y-slit that people are saying is the female pilot head. It's the one real distinguishing feature between male and female tau.

Ah I seen a few people linking that picture as the female pilot. I went out and looked for the other picture. It's subtle. I like it.

I'm digging the white color scheme - maybe I'll go with Abyss or Purple highlights vs the Red.

This picture gives me hope the all stealth army will be reality (and stealth suits finally get moved to troops)...

Nah I'd bet they are elites still, pennies to pounds they will be in a formation made of stealth suits and ghostkeels, shadowsun as hq option too I'd reckon.

Yeah, me too. The white + red accents, in particular is quite a compelling scheme to me. The decals look really sharp on the pictured scheme (on the spread).

I think they would look good with a Rakkarth Flesh base, too. But there's soemthign to be said about the crisp white.

While I like the new color scheme on a per model basis, I think it makes the whole army sort of blend together. Maybe it's my eyes but I really had to look closely to determine which way those broadsides were positioned because they bled into the stealth team.

It's because there is no variation in shade. Even with the traditional desert/plains camo, there is a variation in shade.

AFAIK, the tau repaint their stuff depending on where they are (forest, desert, urban environment, ect.), so these are probably parade colours.

Im not a fan of primary white color schemes. Its kinda shrill and white also has a staining problem. Heck even the tiny white strips i put on my purple/green tau scheme gives me issues. Ive honestly thought about going over all my models and repaint that white to a light grey because it gives me that much of a headache.

That being said, looks better than puke brown ever did....lol

Though i do think they repaint their stuff for the planet theyre on. Thats why the swampy color scheme as well as the industrial look seems to make sense with them. My scheme has no practical use other than i like it lol....that and the joke that purple is the color of death in Japan so....purple tau! rofl
