Subject: 1850 Bugeater GT Battle Report: "THE DEATH OF DÛRIEL" (6 of 6 completed.. AAR and Army Review UP!)
Alright since Dr. Root has forced my hand I am posting my list as to not making any more changes to the list. What is done is done. Sadly I could not fit the harlequins in to the main army. They are just terrible in the current meta with so many units have bonuses to overwatch etc.... They are just too much of a glass hammer for me to field the masque in force. This leaves me with the other two forces that were present for the Death of Duriel. I am taking on this theme because my entire army is painted with a harlequin theme. We are still doing the laughing gods bidding.... even without the harlequins present.
This will be my first ever video report. I will take clips after each turn and then upload them to form the battle reports as a whole. We will see how I do. If the videos come out terrible then I can always take snap shots of the video and upload them for a more standard battle report. Well without further a due:
The Ghost of the Webway
Skyrunner Farseer spirit stones
SpiritSeer
5 Wraithguard with D-Scythes
5 Wraithguard with D-Scythes
The format is modified maelstrom... I am kind of worried about the low model count and the serious lack of air and anti armor. What are your all's thoughts?
After some contemplation I have decided to run the harlequins anyways.
Masque Detachment
Shadowseer lvl 2
Shadowseer lvl 2
10x Harlequin Troupe with Caress
10x Harlequin Troupe with Caress
5x Harlequin Troupe
Skyweaver with star bolas
Starweaver
Voidweaver with prismatic cannon
Formation: The Heroes' Path
Deathjester
Shadowseer lvl 2
Solitaire
Combined Arms Detachment:
Skyrunner Farseer with spirit stones
3 x bikes
3 x bikes
Wraithknight 2x D Cannons; Scatter Laser
I may get tabled in a few of my games but I will definitely give people a run for their money. I could not bring myself to run a harlequin themed army without the harlequins. This is the list I am printing off now and bringing to the event tomorrow. Come by and have a laugh for the laughing god.

I actually have 1850pts of harlequins but I could not see them beating horde armies, admech, eldar, or daemons.... which means that I would need luck to win with them at all.

Good luck. Hope to see you go up against Matt's Orks. That would be a fun matchup.
I have not even play tested this army. I am rolling into this event dark. Hopefully my first game is a lighter opponent. Might need to adjust and get used to it.

You are one of the best players in the nation running the most OP codex released in the last decade fielding all of the best choices and allying in multiple methods for improving their utility drastically. I'll be shocked if you don't go 5-1 or 6-0 and win the whole thing. Only reason I selected 5-1 is you may run into PentaRant as one of the other possible counters or situational counters and could drop a game ie going first against a Null Deployment Drop Pod list with Cents, etc.
I see the biggest weakness a Lack of AA. I think you've got plent of AT with the WK, WraithScythes, and Hemlock, not to mention Scatbikes and Shuribikes for light AV.
I'd feel pretty confident putting this army on the table.
Thinking of counter the interceptor builds by having the 2+ invul on the archon and possibly making him a combat fiend. I could drop the warlock and one shuriken bike and pretty much get everything I need to keep that squad alive when they come onto the board. This would reduce the survivability of the jetbikes slightly but increase the beta strike ability of the archon. He may even threaten units in the follow on turns. This is not even counting the possibility of securing fortune for the 2++.

I kind of feel like an ass running the list but as stated on another platform. I am practicing for nova invitational. The only time I can get decent practice is at GT's. I am hoping I lose as the event as a whole is considered a practice for another event. I was originally going to try and do the impossible and win a GT with harlequins but just about every army that dropped after harlequins made the army less and less viable. To the point where most average players could table my harlequin army if they so chose.
It could always be worse... I could run more strength D or 60 scat bikes. It is hard to not field the best units in the codex when just about every unit in the codex is better then most units in the game.

That was an interesting weekend to say the least. I will need to sort the videos and upload them but here is my game one match-up to get the thread started.
Primary Missions are worth 9 points.
Secondary Missions are worth 6 points.
First Blood, line breaker, and warlord are all worth 1 point each.
Game one:
Here is my army + list: https://youtu.be/9WbL5HYBcUQ Please forgive the obvious mistakes identifying the units. I messed up the voidweaver as I called it by its weapon the entire tournament. The skyweavers were called their special issue wargear as well. It helped remind me that they were different. More to follow as I finish uploading the other games.
Deployment: Hammer and Anvil
Primary: 4 objectives (Center of each table quarter)
Secondary: Maelstrom (Roll two D6 and see chart)
1. Hold Obj 1 or 2
2. Hold Obj 2 or 3
3. Hold Obj 3 or 4
4. Hold Obj 4 or 1
5. Have more scoring units within no man's land (the area between deployment zones) than your opponent
6. Have a scoring unit at least partially within 12" of your opponents deployment edge
Special Rules: Night Fighting, Mysterious Objectives, Reserves
4x Legion of the Damned + 1 Sergeant (Melta, Multimelta, Combi-melta)
4x Legion of the Damned + 1 Sergeant (Melta, Multimelta, Combi-melta)
4x Legion of the Damned + 1 Sergeant (Melta, Multimelta, Combi-melta)
4x Legion of the Damned + 1 Sergeant (Melta, Multimelta, Combi-melta)
Total pts: 1849
He wins the roll to go first. Will try and figure out how to connect my short video clips following each turn. Should be fun. What are your all's thoughts on this match-up? Not exactly what I wanted to see game one with harlequins.
My warlord trait was +1 movement for my warlord and his squad.
I cannot remember which powers he had for his Farseer.

Looks like it's going to be a tough Game #1. My prediction? You take Maelstrom because he doesn't want to get near your guys in the early games. He takes Primary by shooting your guys off of the objectives and then grabbing them. Then you barely win by the Tertiaries. Honestly, I think this will be a brutal matchup for your army.

We are of the same mind. Lucky for me my entire army is Initiative 5, 6, and 7. My solitaire is initiative 10 against his spiders. We will see how I hold up.

Sadly you will be watching for the most part. I will give a brief synopsis with each game but this will be my first video battle report for an event. Any and all constructive criticism is more than welcomed.
GAME 1 VIDEO
Do not click the spoiler as it shows the results. I recommend watching the video first.
Spoiler:
Turn 1: I begin this game by seizing the initiative. He attempted to deploy 2 bike squad and keep the rest of his army in reserves. I moved the wraithknight up on turn one and took down two of his bikes on the nearest squad but the last one was out of LOS and passed his leadership. My deathjester had a chance to make an impact early as he took a bike off of his farseer squad but they passed the leadership 8 test and then a leadership 10 test. He doesnt really do that much as his army is off the board.
Turn 2: I bubble wrap the center ruins in attempt to protect my wraithknight from being killed. I cast veil of tears on both harlequin squads but forget to put invisibility on the wraithknight. I manage to shoot the last of his bikes off the board. He needs reserves to keep the game going. He gets all but one unit of spiders and one unit of LotD on the board. He sends two units of spiders after my farseers squad and one unit after my starweaver which is transporting 5 harlequins up one of the flanks. All 3 of his LotD squads target my voidweaver. They crush the void weaver and the deathjester that was hiding in the ruins. The starweaver jinks and manages to save one of two dice that make it through, it only takes a glance. The two units next to my farseer squad fire at the bikes and do a whopping 21 wounds. I jink with a +1 cover from the objective and manage to make a ridiculous 19 saves on the squad. His autarch wit hthe swooping hawks decide to target my 3 bikes that arrived from reserves the previous turn and manage to kill 2. I think my opponent might have been shocked or just confident in his units ability but he does not make assault moves away from my harlequins.
Turn 3: My harlequins move out and run towards the spiders, the starweaver drops 5 harlequins out to face his spiders on the right flank. The solitaire moves out while blitzing and heads for his autarch + swooping hawks. The result is devastating as both harlequins squads in the middle kill the spiders before they can strike. The 5 harlequin squad on the right flank kills 4 spiders and the spiders fail to wound the harlies. They fail their leadership and are swept. The solitaire takes a challenge with the autarch and kills him before he can strike, The swooping hawks fail to wound him and they fail their leadership and get auto swept. I have effectively tabled my opponent in one turn as he only has 2 units in reserves and the Lotd guys cannot run. He can no longer win the mission and we call it here.
RESULTS: Harlequins win primary, secondary, and claim all 3 bonuses. 18pts for game one!
Post game analysis: I suppose my opponent made a serious tactical error on turn 2 but I think he meant to consolidate away as I shot him. He did move the squad on the right flank as I shot at them but they only went 4 inches. I was able to still reach him though thanks to Rising Crescendo (Run + Charge in the same turn). Even if he had assault moved I am not sure he would of made it far enough away. One of the harlequin squads hit a 23" movement that turn. The Harlies didnt need to move that far but they moved 6, ran 6, and then rolled an 11" charge. I dare to hope that I might actually do well in this event. Everything went relatively smooth in a game that I expected to get tabled.

Thanks, it was definitely not expected. It appears the video was being showed in some weird mode that had the whole screen bouncing around the monitor. I am working to fix this issue and should have the video back to normal in the next hour or so.

Apologies gents... had to wait a few days as I was the last message and I could not post a new message within the time period. It seems I have lost the list from my game 2 opponent.
From what I can remember. Josh Dearth if you are out there I would appreciate it if you posted your list. He is part of the FLG crew from what I understood.
Game 2 Completed:
Space Marines / Astra Militarium / Inquisition / Cypher
Cypher Lord of the Fallen
Tyrannic War Veteran Detachment:
Chaplain Cassius
4 tyrannic war veterans
4 tyrannic war veterans
2 Stormtalons
Space Marine Detachment:
Tigurius
5 scouts
5 man tactical squad with melta/combi-melta Drop Pod
3 Grav Centurions
Astra Militarium Detachment:
Lord commissar (melta bombs)
Pcs (mortar)
4x infantry squad (Melta bombs)
2x wyverns
Coteaz
Deployment: Vanguard
Mission:
Primary: Killpoints
Secondary: Maelstrom with two objectives
1. Hold your objective
2. Hold your opponents objective
3. Destroy an enemy unit
4. Destroy an enemy unit
5. Have a scoring unit at least partially within the enemy deployment zone
6. Have at least 3 of your scoring units and no enemy scoring units at least partially within your own deployment zone.
Bonus: First Blood, Linebreaker, Slay the Warlord
My powers:
Farseer: Fortune; Guide; will of asuryan; executioner
Shadowseer: Shriek; Terrify; invisibility (Heroes' Path)
Shadowseer: Veil of Tears; Peal of Discord; Laugh of Sorrows
Shadowseer: Veil of Tears; fog of dreams; Shards of Light
Warlord Trait: Re-roll saves and to hit rolls of one. (I tried to get the +4 to initiative warlord trait every game... I failed)
Space Marines win the roll to go first. I cannot really afford to go second against this list.
Pre-game Analysis:
It is hard to argue that this list is almost a perfect counter for my list. I have some great powers in invisibility and fortune. I just need to get the powers off before I get killed off. The deployment favors me as I can deploy away from the deadly wyverns. I will be deploying the solitaire the heroes path shadowseer, the wraithknight, and the farseer along with 3 bikes. The hope is to have a couple of targets for him and pray he messes up his target priority to a degree. If the farseer or shadowseer survive turn one then I can get the powers off to keep the wraithknight alive and kicking. If the wraithknight can survive then I have high hopes for this game. My opponent elects ti infiltrate his stormtalons. They will be priority targets if I can seize the initiative. The stormtalons can instant gib my shadowseer if I fail a 2+ cover save. We will see how I hold up. I knew kill points would be an issue going into this event. Luckily my opponent actually has a lot of killpoints.
What are your predictions?
Do not click the spoiler as it shows the results. I recommend watching the video first.
Spoiler:
Turn 1:
I fail to seize the initiative. Then i continue that luck right into my saves. My opponent manages to kill the shadowseer with a stormtalon. The tactical squad the snipers and the other storm talon fire into the farseer and jetbikes. Despite jinking for a 3+ save I manage to fail all but 2 saves this entire turn. My opponent even manages to wound the wraithknight with cassius's flamer as it has fleshbane, this also leads to the solitaire failing a save as he is under the same template. On my turn one I move the solitaire towards his scouts for a turn 2 charge. The wraithknight shoots at his centurions but he makes the one save he has to take there. I charge cassius with the wraithknight and manage to wound him but he makes his 4+ invul save. I deliberately miss with my stomps to keep the combat locked.
Turn 2:
He brings in his tyrannic vet squad on the left flank where they help finish of the solitaire. In combat the wraithknight fails to wound with both the stomps and his CC attacks as a mix of bad rolls + some decent saves keeps the combat going. He even manages to cause a wound to the wraithknight. He moves one stormtalon off of the board. My Harlequins begin to come onto the board but have no real target as the blob has a 3+ invul save thanks to forewarning+sanctuary. I move them onto the flank in an attempt to keep them away from a turn 3 charge/dakka from the blob. My starweaver comes in and gets immobilized. I do get a lucky shot off which kills a wyvern. I do get one unit of bikes in and turbo them across the board to take his objective but find out that his platoon command squad is not a company command squad (i.e. Obsec).
Turn 3:
His stormtalon comes in and he manages to kill off the starweaver. He moves the other stormtalon off the board. The ig blob manages to get some dakka off of the squad despite veil of tears. In addition, the blob gets off foreboding and the 3+ invul save. He charges his tactical squad on the left flank in to help cassius out. I finally mange to get a stomp off and roll a 6 killing cassius and the 4 tactical marines off in one blow. The wraithknight consolidates and tries to kill off the cent squad but fails miserably, he does manage to kill 3 of the tyranic vets. My last harlequin troupe comes in and gets laugh of sorrows off on the scouts killing them off. My squad on the right flank fails to get veil off which means the wyvern can see me just fine.
Turn 4:
With neither squad passing their veil of tears I am left in the open for shooting. His wyvern kills off the troupe squad on the right flank and leaves the shadowseer with one wound. On the right flank he shoots his stormtalon at the harlequin troup and kills off half the squad. He manages to get the 3+ invul save off again for the blob squad. On my turn the voidweaver comes in via deepstrike and scatters a little bit on the left flank. The deathjester comes in on the right flank and attempts to kill the pcs which happens to be his warlord. He passes a leadership 6 and then a leadership 8 to stay put. The wraithknight shoots and kills 2 centurions as they are now in the open. The wraithknights scatter laser fails to kill off the last tyranic vet. My harlequin squad on the left flank attempts to kill off the drop pod but I do not roll to hit so I cannot auto glance the pod. Both shadowseers peril this turn and the shadowseer on the right flank kills himself in the process. My skyweavers come in on the right flank and attempt to kill enough guardsmen to get coteaz. They only manage to kill off 2 or 3 guardsman as the blob has the 3++.
Turn 5:
He switches the stormtalons to hover and finishes the last harlequin troupe + warlord. He once again gets the 3++ invul on the blob as he one dices sanctuary succesfully for the 4th straight turn. The guard blob charges the skyweavers and kills them off with ease. The centurions shoot their bolters into the deathjester and kill him off. Alas the only two things left standing are the wraithknight and the voidweaver. I attempt to kill off a stormtalon but fail in the process. The wraithknight kills the last centurion and then charges cypher. We fight the battle out and I would kill cypher in the next turn. Ide like the dark angels to pay my reward in soul stones please.
This game was rough from the beginning. I really needed to go first or at least survive turn one better then i did. In the end it was a complete massacre 18 to 0 in favor of the space marines. However, the tournament did not sell out so I am theoretically not out of the running. I will need to max my points in just about every game to stay in this one. I hope you all enjoyed game two and as before please let me know if you have any suggestions and/or critiques to improve the reports.

BTW, how many detachments are allowed in this tournament?
The tournament format:
Armies will consist of 1850 points or less. Armies will be battle-forged that can include the following
options:
0-1 Combined Arms Detachment
0-1 Allied Detachment
Any number of unique Codex detachments
Any number of unique formations presented in a dataslate.
* Each specific Codex Detachment and Data Slate Formation is considered unique (0-1) and may not be duplicated
*No forgeworld units are allowed
*Maximum of 1 fortification for the whole force
*Although you can take Imperial Knights, they cannot be your primary detachment
*Lords of War are allowed but cannot make up more than 33% of the army’s total points cost.
The format originally looked restrictive but the formations and data slates had no limits. There were a couple of armies that had 5 or 6 detachments. It was kind of crazy in that I did not really see any fortifications present at this event.
Yea Josh had a strong list.... I still think if I had gotten that first turn it might of been a different game but YMMV. An army that needs first turn to win is not one that anyone needs to run at an event. I am definetily looking forward to a rematch on different terms.

Oh well you can't win em all ! At least it was a top player you lost to - that is something . That table needs a lot more terrain IMO. Why the ban of FW ?
Can't wait see the Game 3 Pre-game !

The event as a whole made only minor adjustments from 6th edition 40k. That would include a negative response to FW units. They did say that there next event will most likely allow FW units and rules. As for the terrain... sometimes that happens at an event... I only really had one piece of terrain to hide in.

I win the roll to go first and elect to let him deploy first. Its a risk but with my warlord trait I am pretty confident I can seize. This army actually has some scary units. The skull cannons could eat my harlequins in one turn of shooting. The soul grinder could actually bring the wraithknight down with some decent rolling. Alas his army is a summoning army. He can bring in a thirster or two to give me fits. My army doesnt have much anti-air. We will see how the harlequins hold up to the new Khorne Daemonkin.
As always I recommend watching the video before reading the results but ymmv. You can even read a turn and then watch it or vice versa. Enjoy!
Spoiler:
I roll to seize and manage to not roll a which is the only way I could not seize. He scouts up his units of hounds and I infiltrate the solitaire and the shadowseer while outflanking the deathjester. I also reserve one unit of 3 bikes.
Turn 1: I fortune and guide my wraithknight as it moves up and gets a lucky on the damage table to kill off his soul grinder. I move up all 4 shuriken cannons in my army to target his skull cannons but fail to even get a glance. We actually make some game mechanic mistakes in this turn as he charges his flesh hounds that just scouted... this results in me losing my solitare and the farseer + 3 jetbikes as they fail their leadership and get swept. I didnt even notice this mistake until now. Funny what watching reports will show you. He moves up his bloodthrone and charges into the wraithknight in an attempt to lock me up. I get a pen result and explode the bloodthrone with my normal attacks. His skull cannons target the bikes with the farseer and kill 2 of them. The other skullcannon targets the harlequin vehicles but fails to penetrate and the other makes a 4+ mirage save.
Turn 2: A unit of harlequin troupe move up the middle ruins and kill off the hounds that were threatening the shadowseer. My wraithknight moves up and takes down a skull cannon while charging in to kill off his possessed squad. I charge and lock up a skull cannon with the unit of 5 harlequins which started the game embarked in the starweaver. My last unit of harlequins moves over and kill off what remains of his hound squad that charged and killed my farseer. My voidweaver pens one of his skullcannons and stuns the vehicle preventing it from shooting the next turn. He has a unit of bloodletters arrive from reserves and it deepstrikes on one of my objectives. The key thing that went my way in this turn was when he attempted to bring in a bloodthirster but failed the leadership test resulting in a failed summoning. I hit and run with my 5 man harlequin troupe to clear the way for other units to shoot his skullcannon.
Turn 3: My deathjester comes in from reserves on the left flank and fires into the rear of the wounded skullcannon and helps bring the vehicle down. My wraithknight moves to the center and fires both DCannon shots back at the last skullcannon killing it off. The wraithknight then shoots a scatter laser into some cultist before charging in to wipeout the squad. My harlequin troupes continue to advance and one squad charges in to wipe out his last unit of flesh hounds. He moves in two units of cultist and shoot + charge the harlequins in the open. I take a few casualties but win the combat and sweep both squads. His warlord dies in combat with the wraithknight and a bloodthirster is summoned on his side.
Turn 4: The wraithknight advances past the new bloodthirster and heads for his 15 man cultist squad. I send a unit of Harlequins after his bloodthirster. The harlequin troupe kill the bloodthirster despite losing 4 models before striking blows. The other harlequin troupe squad moves over to kill off his bloodletters. On the left flank the last 2 harlequins of the smaller harlequin troupe continue to hold onto his objective. After killing off his bloodthirster we go ahead and call the game.
Results:
Primary: Harlequins
Secondary: Harlequins
All 3 bonus: Harlequins
18-0 Victory for Harlequins/Eldar
This game really showed the strength of harlequins vs another dedicated assault army. I may die in droves to dakka and/or mass amounts of hits but if I can just strike first then its likely that nothing survives to swing back. The wraithknight did well in this game but the harlequin troupes carried the day. They killed off all 3 units of flesh hounds, 3 cultist squads, 2 bloodletter squad, and 1 bloodthirster. If I can just keep these guys alive enough to get to combat then I can win any game.
Hope you all enjoy the report. Game 4 Pre-game will be up later.
