So... it's really not that funny. Rick himself (Hi Rick!) may not pull the trigger, but if they blow things yet again, on a long enough timeline, someone will eventually feel like it's worth their time. Whether it's to get a couple grand back for a big backer, or just to emphasize that there are consequences to stringing people along for years, or something else entirely.

The advantage of playing on the nostalgia of 30-40+ year olds is that they are more prone to having families and being in careers. Being a 'nerdy' pursuit, we're talking a group that often prioritizes their hobbies for disposable income.

But that same funding and life experience also makes them vastly more dangerous than random teens and 20 year olds out there. Some are going to have friends that are lawyers. Hell, I'll bet out of 5k+ backers some of them *are* lawyers.

Whether it's worth any of their time to pick a fight over a couple hundred bucks (if that) seems low, but if they drag this out long enough, the odds are someone will decide to give it a whirl.

Whether they're funded or scraping the bottom of the barrel, they need to make this as right as they can, and as the weeks tick by without tangible wave two info, more red herrings (scale! LE figures! GHQ!), and drawing ever closer to that end of the year period, they need to gak or get off the pot.

I guarantee there are some lawyers in the bunch, and given the recent precedent set with the not-Monopoly Doom game, at some point someone will file a class action simply to teach Palladium a lesson. Typically, this is done to force an accounting. The nice thing is that Palladium has assets of a sort.

Don't get me wrong, I want my stuff. But if that won't happen, it would dearly love to see Palladium put out of business, their licenses and IP stripped sold at auction. Along with whatever of Kevin's artwork wasn't stolen during Crisis of Treachery I and Crisis of Treachery II.

Very true! In case anyone is interested, I put up the last part of the crunch of my robotech skirmish house rules on my blog (link in my sig). Probably tomorrow I'll put up an update with some sample armies but the actual rules are pretty much posted and ready for commentary ("you suck!") whether from theory or practice. I won't be plugging them exclusively after this post so you guys don't have to worry about me spamming the thread for clicks (I don't have advertising so I'm missing out on the pennies regardless).

A wild update emerges!

The Big Scale Poll

Choose the scale for future generations of Robotech® RPG Tactics™ mecha – 6mm or larger?

Robotech® RPG Tactics™ was designed to be a 6mm, 1/285th scale game, and our intent has always been to keep all eras of Robotech at that same scale. For one thing, that has NEVER been done – all the mecha from Robotech® at one consistent scale. Most figures should look pretty darn good at 6mm, though the man-sized mecha and other small mecha will be very small.

That said, an increasing number of our Kickstarter backers have been coming to us and pointing out how small some pieces such as the Cyclones, Southern Cross soldiers and other man-sized pieces, as well as some Invid and Inorganics, will be at 6mm.

As Palladium plans for the future, we want to address this concern that has been brought to us by you, now rather than later. One big reason is, if we decide to release the Regent’s Invid and Inorganics forces as a new faction to fight the Zentraedi, we need to know the scale you want. (Zentraedi vs Invid makes sense since they were created to fight the Invid.) But nothing has been decided.

The suggestion has been to make the mecha of all future Robotech® generations – the Masters Saga/Armies of the Southern Cross, New Generation and Shadow Chronicles® – at a larger scale. 15mm has been the most commonly suggested, because the smallest figures like the popular Cyclones would be a decent size for those of who enjoy painting and posing larger figures. And that’s the dilemma, on the battlefield a consistent 6mm scale seems right. For those who love to paint and modify figures, a larger 15mm scale may be more fun and appealing (and to some, they think the figures look better on the battlefield, too).

And just to be clear, we’re talking about future generations only. This has no bearing on Wave Two. Wave Two is well along in its development, with several pieces completely done and ready for tooling, and others undergoing final changes. We have no intention of changing its scale at this point, and never did. (We’ll be talking more about Wave Two in future updates, so please try to keep the comments here limited to just your votes in the poll, and discuss other matters elsewhere.)

We want to know what YOU want to see, and we will go with the clear majority of the actual votes in this Kickstarter “poll.”

- So please vote only ONCE.

- Indicate ONE of the choices below. You may elaborate and include additional details, but please open with your choice (e.g. “6mm for all future generations of mecha” or “15mm for all,” etc.), so we can see and tally votes at a glance. And please stay on subject. Thank you.

Note: We want to see all figures of all generations of Robotech® to be compatible on the battlefield, which is why we think we should stay with 6mm. HOWEVER, if there is enough interest in a larger scale, Palladium may be able to offer it to those who want the larger scale as well as doing the 6mm pieces, especially if there is a big demand. Both would be sold separately.

The Poll:

6mm for all future generation mecha.
10mm for all future generation mecha.
15mm for all future generation mecha.
A mix: 6mm for the larger mecha, but 10mm or 15mm for the smaller, man-sized pieces.

Palladium uses "focus on fethmuppetry", but it's not at all effective!

To snip out the one part relevant to a significant number of people;

And just to be clear, we’re talking about future generations only. This has no bearing on Wave Two. Wave Two is well along in its development, with several pieces completely done and ready for tooling, and others undergoing final changes. We have no intention of changing its scale at this point, and never did. Oh. So a bunch of stuff remains done or nearly done, but still nothing to talk about or show.

*jazzhands*

Edit: my favourite part is where they have the self awareness to recognize that backers want wave two info, but rather than give (some of) us what we want, they ask us not to clog up the comments asking about wave two with vague assurances that info is coming.

It's talking about a part of the product line that is in no danger of existing unless they want to get GHQ casting tiny invid in the next few weeks. There's no reason that one of the last FIVE fething updates could have focused on wave two and then bumped this poll back another week.

So, selling the snake oil continues.

David wasted his hissy too early, he should've had it in this latest update. *That* would have been hilarious.

As I stop and think about it, I can't believe how many people are taking the poll seriously - do they really believe PB will ever put out any more product beyond this KS?

It never ends well

I'm glad my mixed scale idea (hardly original, I know but still) is getting some traction but I actually considered not voting for it because they included the 15mm scale in there. That would be the worst for me.

15mm is to big. I'd rather keep things at 6mm. Anyways in the end Kevin will do as he pleases. The illusion is that we're given a choice as evidenced by his backpedaling of his pro 15mm rant. I guess two years later it just hit him. Idiot.

Isn't that image a little misleading?

It's one of the shortest in the RDF lineup, but also is often on a flight stand (not always, but they're included for a reason, and others are using even higher ones from 3rd parties). It's leaning forward, emphasizing it even more. And it only looks at the extremes of 6mm and 15mm. How about a 10 in there?

Hell, a 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10mm version, lined up beside a Battloid and/or some Destroids.

Seriously who models a Guardian nose-cone faceplanting into the ground?

I'm assuming that's one of BS's images, and not yours, Cypher? I know I've seen it around before.

Point being, if we're going to make a potentially 6 or 7 figure decision (between a potential campaign, plus sales, plus everything else that goes into this), it should be an informed choice with as little outside influence as possible.

That image ain't it.

Frankly, going by gut, I'm imagining a mid point 10mm figure in there and thinking I'd be pretty happy with it.

And yes, a sliding scale so that Alphas/Betas don't stand out too badly works just fine in my eyes (more shout outs, Warboss).

Also if the money starts rolling in send me some, I haven't seen a penny from my 'body of work' thus far.

The picture is mine. The pose is one of the iconic poses of the gerwalk mode. The one in the picture broke off it flight stand. I'll eventually fix it. Personally I don't think it's misleading. This way those who want 15mm can see just how big they are in comparison. Here's another pic just for clarity's sake.

Doesn't matter what pose it's in, the 15mm cyclone head is the size of the pilot

Establishing that the 15mm is too big is great, but it's ground we've already tread. I'm sold. 15mm (just to get larger cyclones) is indeed vastly out of scale.

But there is a spectrum between those two extremes.

I'd still like to see a 10mm in there if you happen to have one around, or any other midpoint between the two.

And I appreciate the pics (original and extras).

Durban-South Africa. Like schwow man!

Feth yeah! My dream of a 12 part white metal Cyclone in 6mm is shared by the backers! I wonder how hard I have to lobby to get one pilot to have a separate goatee to glue on?

In all seriousness, my pet theory of getting hit for extra postage for Wave 2 is proving unfounded. Seeing as Wave 2 is looking like vapourware at this point.
