Get tenure, and be paid for delivering lectures to undergrads that are so boring that I only get about three people signing up to my seminars, and can spend the rest of my time doing whatever interests me. That'll do me until the day I keel over. Or get transferred into a robotic exoskeleton. One of the two.

Gonna buy a decent off-road vehicle and become a nature photographer. Of course, that's like 40 years down the road. Almost. 35, I guess.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If I'm able to retire before the baby boomers steal all my social security, I plan to buy an RV and live wherever I feel like parking and just travel all over the place.

I plan to save up enough to buy a pub, and live there, rather than rent, and run small events, rent the rooms, and basically have lazy ass opening hours but treat people well.
When I physically can't do it, just carry on living there and pack in the bar side of things.

Quite seriously I expect to not really reach a great age due to the physical rearrangement my body's endured. Anything after about 40 I'll be grateful for.
I'd like to see my kids start their own home life if I have kids. Know they're safe and can cope.

Current plan is to reach hopefully retire at an age earlier than the one that I have been advised I could retire at.

The way it looks now is that I will be working until I die at my desk, mouse in hand, posting on Dakka ... I mean, doing those reports that I am doing .. yeah, reports.

Maybe that's where I have been going wrong ... CURSE YOU DD!

I’ve got some money socked away in various places, doing the compound interest thing. The Wife is still pulling in a steady paycheck and slicing a bit off every month to add to what I started.

We are going to inherit a slice of The Wife’s family's farm, and plan on building a home out there. The idea is to get to close to off the grid and self sufficient as we can manage (and afford) Definitely working in as many long term cost reductions as we can, like passive-solar and extra insulation. Might be a little more expensive up front, but when we are living off of our fixed income, will be nice.

What's so great about retirement anyway? Do you really want to sit around all day watching tv or going for walks. I enjoy work and hope that as long as I'm fit and able I will be out working the fields. I not against planning for ill health and saving but i do reckon the last 2 or 3 generations have made to much out of retirement.

Working on a Bachelor's in History, and my masters will be in Education, or History, not sure yet which.

7 Years left in the AF, I plan to have both of those done by then. I'll be 37. When I retire I'll use my GI Bill to finish out the other half, Education or History. Then I plan on teaching.

I just bought a home last week, so we've got that portion covered. My wife is looking for a solid job now as well. We might wait a couple more years though, let all the kids get into school, and the oldest will be able to watch the youngest after school at that point.

When I retire, retire. Don't know. Maybe we'll have moved home to Michigan by then, and I'll buy a boat and do salmon fishing charters on Lake Michigan.

Use inheritance to fix up whatever house I have at the time to make it look really nice so I'd have a nice place to retire into without anything to worry about and something to pass along to children. Still a long way off until then to even think about it.

I assume I will work until I die, leaving enough for my wife to retire and live decently with whomever she shacks up with at that point. She'll retire from the Army with over 30 years of service in a few years so can augment what I leave her with that.

oh the airforce, I will never be able to fully like you knowing your in the airforce. Something about almost being killed by a couple of incompetent pilots

with that said, good plan. Also make sure you research which GI bill is better. believe it or not I found out that the Montgomery bill is better for me because all my school was done Via the internet and post 9/11 would only have paid the courses and 1/2 BAH for the area im in, where as Montgomery pays a flat rate and left me with a lot of money left over, especially after my Pell grant kicked in. Side note, APPLY FOR PELL GRANTS!

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all

Just beacuse you retire doesn't mean you have to stop doing stuff, my grandmother retired over 20 years ago, and she's still doing stuff at 87.

Runnin up on ya.

I'm going to collect a pension, two annuities and social security (if it's still around). The current plan is a small place near a beach with the wife and the daughter can visit when she's able.

Almost forgot about the stock portfolio. So add to the above whatever that's worth in 15 years of investing several hundred soars per month.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

I have to say, there's a line in the game "Prototype" I love that I'm always reminded of when I hear about retirement.

Sometimes when you are about to violently kill an enemy soldier he says the line "Glad I didn't save up for retirement"

I'm almost five years into a career with the Federal government, so if I ride this out I'll get a decent little annuity out of that. I'm getting full matching out my 401(k) (actually a TSP, but the same thing) and I'm maxing out my personal IRA.

Odds are, I'll be using the 401k and IRA principle as a downpayment on a house at some point, but even if I do, I'll be able to put some money away for my wife, who won't have any sort of pension.

I have a desk job, so I hope to work well into my 60s, but we'll see how things are going by then. I'm still paying off student loans, so retirement is kind of far from my mind.

Either we'll continue straight on course towards a full societal breakdown ala Mad Max, in which case it's pointless to plan for it, or there will be a socialist revolution and it will be unnecessary to plan for it.
