I don't really think the Taurox is that bad ruleswise. It is cheaper than the chimera and comes with a terrain mod while boasting a twin linked autocannon. I would use it to deliver an alpha strike of plasma, melta, or flamers. Or as a reserve unit with guardsmen to rush objectives in the late game.

Fast vehicles with powerful weapons?
They are great for running to objectives and unloading small squads to hold the objective. In the turn they move 12" they can still fire all their weapons, which are actually pretty powerful.
I think these things are pretty effective, but I have only played against them once. I did end up destroying all 4 of them, but they did some damage before that happened, and because of how fast they were, he used them as board control to prevent me from getting to his back field very easily.

I see them fairly regularly in guard lists - the ability to move about rapidly in a vehicle which is cheap, has TL auto cannon and a small profile makes it ideal for maelstrom missions. Spamming them is also a valid strategy ala venom spam

Their also a pretty affordable way to get limited teleport homer access in the form of the augur arrays. Augur arrays let you deep strike and reroll your scatter within 9" which isn't that bad.
This makes a great way for you to deliver tempestus scions into a firefight quickly to back up an objective that's being shoved by the enemy.
They also can mount a missle battery with adequate range, meaning you could park it next to some Russ tanks and if they become threatened you can deep strike in some scions to save your bacon.
There's lots of ways to use the taurox beyond being a means to an end (getting troops up the board faster). And they have better weapons than some transports like the metal bawks and the flavourbacks basic configuration.

HA clever.
But yeah they are cheaper and come with a better all comers weapon (Auto cannon)
which can touch a bit further out than the heavy bolter or multi multi lasers
AV12 was nice for the chimera but its soo easy to side step it for av10 anyway.
You can park them wayyy in the back in ruins or something and use them for the auto cannon. or just run them forward like a normal chimera that if lucky doesnt explode till t2-3

They are better at actually transporting infantry than the Chimera. They are much cheaper and come with dozer blades included. They can also fire all of their guns on the move, unlike a Chimera that has to snap fire one. Most importantly, the side doors give units a much larger disembark range than the Chimera.
If you want to move forward through terrain and deploy infantry into rapid fire range, the Taurox is the better choice.

100 points gives you a transport that can move 12" re-roll failed terrain tests, shoot smoke for a one-use 5+ cover save, carry cargo, and fire 2 main weapons at BS4 instead of BS3, which are:
2 S8 shots and 2 tl-S7 shots.
now compare that to the 90 point devilfish

Don't forget the AV11 and no jink.
Not very good.
At least the base Rox is cheap (but hideous), cause the prime is largely useless costing so much.

Correct.
The Taurox is a funny ugly duckling. It's relatively cheap, it has good access points and a good armament for a Guard DT. However, it suffers from being very fragile which is not something you want in a DT. I'd still pick the Chimera over the Taurox just because it looks much, much, much better and it has a very solid amount of firepower. However, if you were doing mech platoons I'd use the Taurox just to save on points.

agree, the base taurox is 20 points cheaper than a chimera with the same terrain ignoring gear.
so for +20 points you get +1 front armor, amphibious (like that ever gets used) and trade your 48" twin-linked higher strength gun for two 36" non-twinlinked lower strength guns but with 3x the shot count, but can only fire one at normal bs.
Of course if youre using a chimera you'll put at least 1 heavy flamer in there

I have the IA book that allows me to run Chimera with Auto Cannon. A few smaller battles I have won due to the fact I had the auto cannons.
At least 2 low points battles involved Orks in 'eavy armor attempting to footslog at me. I managed to remove their only source of weapons that could damage the Chimeras front (an Ork Mech, with a mega blasta and one or 2 others units). The Auto Cannon onboard the CHimera did at least 90% of the killing in both battles.
A Taurox would not have survived the battles. Whenever the megablasta fired the armor 12 allowed it it ekk out and survive. sometimes it came down to a matter of rolls of 11. A taurox would have been glanced into oblivion, sure it was only rolls of 11 and a matter of sheer luck that a ST 8 weapon didn't go through my armor 12 but I think even a single additional point of armor saved my chimera and the battles.
Im sure I will find a use for my own pair of Tauroxes (modified to be half-tracks, cause 4 track units just looks silly). One prime, other standard. I think If I could get them in someones flank like an outflanking attack. Even then I have better things to outflank. I have outflanked my knight and hilarity ensued amoung other things. If I had more opportunity's to outflank (i.e give more outflank rules to units), and had the points maybe I could stick the Tauroxes in.
Im more inclined to stick with a chimera if only due to previous experience.

The Taurox has multiple issues. As they are now, they're not very good.
It's ugly in either configuration.
In it's basic form, It's rather pointless. It was unasked for. It fills no role or niche. That said, GW's not going to cut it. If it's going to be kept, with lower BS and side armor than a Razorback, and transporting crappier troops, it really needs to be either cheaper, or faster. If the basic Taurox were also Fast, it would actually have a purpose and be worth the points. Also needs Smoke Launchers as base wargear.
The Taurox Prime gets a slew of upgrades. It's Fast, has better armament, and BS4, but costs way too much. If it were 60pts base, with its weapons upgrades prices cut in half? It might be useful. As it is now however, with its still very crappy armor, after kit it's often in triple digit prices, and that's simply absurdly overcosted. This thing shouldn't be any more than 80pts after kit and upgrades, starting at 80 base and often ending up being 105/110 after kit, is ridiculous.

I wondered what prompted GW to create the Taurox. It can't be because they wanted to give Guard a cheap transport since it is only 5 points less than the 5e Chimera. It doesn't even fulfill a niche the Chimera doesn't so what is it's purpose? To sell more transport kits to people who already bought a bunch of Chimeras?

Taurox has more fire ports (exactly which ones are the fire ports, and their field of view, I don't know. My opponents let me shoot all 4 guys in any direction.)
it is also cheaper and comes with a dozer blade for free.
it has a single twin linked weapon, instead of two single weapons.
It isn't a command vehicle.
I feel as if a Chimera is meant to sit further back and support using both of it's weapons and a command squad whilst tauroxes are supposed to zoom in with veterans shooting out of the sides. It should probably be cheaper, and come with wheels to encourage more people to use them.

The Taurox really does look like the abortion of an MRAP and a WW2 Halftrack. The tracks look even less functional than a Leman Russ tanks trakcs do, and just look...awful.
The thing might be passable with different tracks, or with wheels, I've seen some wheeled conversions that look somewhat ok. but as is it just looks like crap.
Also, it looks like it might carry *maybe* five or six guys tops, hardly ten. It's even worse than the Rhino in that regard (which can actually technically fit ten Marines if built and posed right).
More importantly, the Taurox is really more of a "Police" or "Low intensity conflict" vehicle. It's something you'd drive around between secure areas if you were expecting maybe a small arms ambush, mines, shrapnel, stuff like that. Not something a typical IG regiment would be running in a general conventional battle line.
Colehkxix wrote:Taurox has more fire ports (exactly which ones are the fire ports, and their field of view, I don't know. My opponents let me shoot all 4 guys in any direction.)
That would be incorrect, and a rather huge boost, only two can be used on either side, and they really can't hit anything to the for or directly aft.

Well, the Taurox would have a use if it where:
-Cheaper
-Fast
-Had more armour
-Had cheaper upgrades
-Actually looked decent
-Could actually survive an MEQ squad getting on its flank within rapid fire range
-Could survive a HB squad to the front
If it does become viable I will be using these beauties to represent them as well as my Chimeras.
