Question came up at my lfgs. Can Loth be taken as on of the librarians in a librarius conclave? The debate was good natured and good reasoning and arguments were had on both sides. I thought I'd expand the discussion to dakka and see what everyone thinks. Opinions and reasoning welcome.

No, he's not on the list of units that can be taken, and his profile never says anything like ' loth counts as a librarian for force org purposes" or anything like that. Not unreasonable to.houserule it to allow him, but I'm pretty sure that by RAW, he's a no go.

I believe FW are in the process of making an FAQ or new pdf for all the characters to fit into 7th. Think I saw it in another thread where someone emailed FW.

I don't see any reason for why he would be allowed. Tigurius is, because the formation specifically states so.

He's not on the list of allowed options, so no.

7th Edition has been out for over a year at this point. I'm not holding my breath for a 7th Edition Character Update FAQ.

HIWPI, yes. I'd allow any named Librarian to be taken in the Conclave.

The update I'm talking about is tied to the space marine 7th ed not the main rules. Possibly they knew the SM were getting updates so saved it for later.

I somehow do not see them updating the rules for the librarius conclave when they update the FW units, so even a FW character update will likely leave loth out as FW will probably not be updating the librarius conclave to state it can include him.

I believe the conclave (formation taken, you fill the required units out) is something printed by GW, not FW (yes FW is owned by GW, but they do not have say over the citadel content which the codex is...) I do not see any update to the librarius conclave coming to allow it to include other named librarians.

They did it for a few AM characters to add to ccs. And extra dedicated transports and fast attacks to the regular codex

RAW, no, but GW isn't fine-tuned enough for RAW to matter worth a damn. It's really obvious given the lists of named characters that could be subbed in that the intention would be (if anyone ever bothered to make all that stuff consistent) allow Loth.

I'd allow it without batting an eye, think that anyone who wouldn't in a friendly game is kinda' lame, and don't think 40k is suited to tournament play.

It wouldn't be the first time a named HQ wasn't included. I think at least one of the formations allows Cassius, but doesn't mention Grimaldus.
