Subject: USA [MegaBots Inc. MK. II] Challenges Japan [Suidobashi Heavy Industries KURATA] to Giant Robot Duel
I backed the original MegaBots Kickstarter because a buddy and professor of mine who taught me in engineering school was working on the project. Imagine my surprise when I saw this email from them earlier today.
MegaFans,
We just finished the Mk.II, a 15-foot-tall, 6-ton combat robot. It has one purpose in life: to destroy other giant robots. And now, it's targeting computers have locked on to an opponent - the KURATAS robot, made by Suidobashi Heavy Industries. It's time for the Mk. II to fulfill it's prime objective.
We've put together the most red-blooded, gunslinging, 'MERICA-f*ck-yeah challenge video possible. Watch it. Share it - everywhere. Force your friends to watch it. Send it to your entire company. The more eyes that see this video, the more people that desperately want this to happen, the harder this challenge will be for them to ignore.
Help us give the world the giant robot fight it's been waiting for.
Thoughts? Who's going to win if they accept? I'm a little impartial to MegaBots myself because it was purpose-built for giant robot fighting than aesthetics and show-off, which is what the Suidobashi one looks like.

Yeah, apparently its an art piece. Its not meant to be in an actual fight.
I suppose Suidobashi can modify it though.
They better give it a functional pile bunker / onager gauntlet.

Im sure Japan of all places would be up for the challenge
Yeah, Sudobashi's is designed more as a "technical display" more than anything else. It carries a lot of on-board electronics and not much in the way of armour or weapons. MegaBots was designed from the ground up to brawl in a fight, with critical systems hidden deep inside and weapon systems that potentially can rival present-day firearms (without even needing any gunpowder, to boot).
If anyone is in Boston, I might be emailing my old prof sometime soon to see if I can visit the MegaBots facility. It's literally 15 minutes away from my place.

My prediction is the japanese put a bunch of melee stuff on their bot, but it gets knocked over by the huge paintguns on the American one before it closes.

The Japanese one is a roller on four legs. Would think it'd be hard to knock over. That said, the paint-guns literally look like they go right through metal... I wouldn't be surprised if instead it took out critical electronics and servo systems in the Japanese one.
I'm curious to know how they're going to protect the pilots, though. Seriously, we just had someone crushed in a car factory in Germany the other day by an industrial robot's arms (not hard to assume something equivalent to this will be on the Japanese 'bot), and we've seen the penetrating power of the American dakka. The pilots are really gonna be in harm's way.
