(sorry if this is in a wrong section, but it IS about modeling).
Saw the new Age of Sigmar minis today and they are gorgeous... and the Sigmarite guys are bloody HUGE (almost as big as a terminator, but not quite). Truescaler's dream I think. The current issue Imperial Guard and other human-sized minis are properly dwarfed by them as they should be.
And if Age of Sigmar succeeds, and sells a lot of minis... what if the Sigmarite minis become a template for the next generation of Space Marines? It would be one hell of a move for GW: in one fell swoop, they 1) create a solidly trademarked line of minis - no more knockoffs; 2) deliver a nuclear punch to the third-party bits providers and recasters by dramatically changing the scale; 3) update an aged product line with a radical new look which is easier to make more detailed on the account of being large.
There's no way that old SM armies could be integrated with the new models, they are just too big. Scale change happened before, perhaps it's about to happen again? How do you feel about this possibility?

What's so scary about it? I though the old WFB range is still usable?
no more knockoffs
I live in China, if there is some money behind it, you have no idea how fast these guys are.

I think WFB was dying off in popularity, so it made sense to rejuvenate the game. Even in doing so, the old models are still usable. 40k is much more popular, so I don't see them doing the same thing to that game.

Looking at the number of WFB communities that are dropping AoS like an armed grenade to stick with 8th - or switch to other proper fantasy mass combat games, which AoS is NOT - I'd say it's more likely AoS will be a short-lived sideline before GW gets out of fantasy altogether.
But yes, scaling up Space Marines seems to be a logical step for the next generation of 40K releases. Especially if they unify the rules with AoS.

If anything, they are even bigger than Terminators:
The level of scale creep is large, even for GW.
As to whether this will happen to 40K, well, give it time. All it takes is for sales to slide and I think GW will consider doing the same.

Speaking as an owner of two very large space marine armies its no worse than what has happened already over the years already. The old metal terminators are significantly smaller than the newer plastics, its never bothered me as I can still field my old models.

Horses for courses. Personally speaking, I find the old metal terminators look ridiculously weedy next to the newer sized one. This whole scale arms race is one of the most frustrating things about GW for me (aside from the usual price, rules etc!)

People forget: GW doesn't do patterns. They probably just made what looked cool. The Space Marine range is also vast and interchangeable, and they'd need to redo kits they've just launched that people are buying quite happily.

Well darn, I was hoping to snag one of the WD freebies to make a Chapter Master but he'd be much too big!
That's fine for truescalers but for someone who is happy with their model scale as is? Pluh.

I doubt it. Scale change happened in an era when GW wS transitioning to modern plastic kits. Back them, there were a lot fewer kits and interchangeable parts.
Plus, you'd need to scale up EVERYTHING that exposed a Marine, like bikes and landspeeders.

Mind you, I was talking more from the collector's standpoint than gaming standpoint. Gaming-wise I don't really care (don't play anymore), collection-wise... I have four shelves packed with minis, and to have them written off one day as "old style small space marines" would be sad.
Nice comparison picture, the Sigmarite definitely has truescale proportions.

Gw have over the years taken advantage of the fact people will react favorably to models that look big and bulky relative to others in the range. I have one of the Pre-marine marines and when you compare it to a modern marine it is clear this has been going on for years.
I don't expect it to stop anytime soon. Maybe digital sculpting will slow it somewhat.

When it comes to scale creep, I don't think GW aren't afraid of having some small models left over in the range.

I just assume that the smaller figures are standing further away...
I get comments on scale when people see my 80s/90s era IG army, "God, your guardsmen are tiny!"
"They're just in the distance, okay?"

I don't get why anyone expects Stormcast Eternals to be smaller than space marine terminators - they are a brand new race and could be any size GW decided. Ogres are bigger than space marines, but no one has decided that is an example of scale creep.
Are the marauders bigger than current marauders? That would be the actual comparison to make.

I believe the OP was talking about Sigmarines in relation to Space Marines and how this sort of scale creep is completely within the realm of unreason for GW. Meaning upscaling Marines is a bad idea and therefore probably next on GWs agenda.
I have seen pics that illustrate GWs cruel March through the ages of scale creep and its not pretty. Yes I am happy with the current range, TSers aside, I think the whole 40k line looks pretty well to scale. The idea that GW keeps upping the scale over the years is just more proof that these guys just want you to keep buying and will stoop to whatever level required.
Perhaps in the past you could have said well scale creep us okay because it allows bigger and more detailed models, but nowadays? Pure profiteering. You just watch, the new AoS armies that replace the old ones will be so horribly out of scale there will be no way a bunch of OCD hobbyists are going to game with mixed pieces. They'll put out a new Ogre army and they will be twice the size of the current ones. Your old Beastmen (unlikely they will get an army) will look like sheep standing next to whatever abomination GW spews forth.
There is only one way to tell GW you don't want scale creep and that is to NOT buy any AoS products, or any other product that display this flagrant scheme.

I highly doubt they will bother retooling EVERYTHING. the cads are ready and the product sells so no need real reason to reboot it. Though they did have a scale shrink when those company captains was released. the executioner one is scaled very small for some reason.

First thing I thought when I saw the new Sigmarites... "well, they've finally done it, they've brought Space Marines to Fantasy".
