I really, REALLY like the Dragonfate Dias. I have no idea what I'll do with it, but I'm definitely going to paint that puppy up!

It sure looks nice. Does it feel stable enough? It seems like it can only be glued by the stairs and the top looks a bit heavy with all four statues.

About the stairs, can you make a figurine stand on the small ones or do you absolutely have to put them on the bigger platforms?

I'm waiting for the game table. It should be very nice with all those terrains, with a very "high fantasy" feeling.

Here you go -- everything you need to know about the kit

I am tempted to buy a second kit to get another set of the pillars.

Edit: oops, I missed five little inch-tall plastic pieces that came in a plastic clamshell to prevent them from being damaged. But you get the idea

Thanks Talys, it's funny but I find this picture much more tempting so that I can buy.

I'm really surprised by how the pieces are in the box. No sprue at all? I didn't expect that. Seems like the quality is high enough here.

I can see why you want another set of pillar. You could make a king road with those "guarding" the passage on each side.

@Sarouan - you read my mind exactly

By the way, the pieces I missed in the photograph are the little caps in step 4 of the instructions that sit on top of the pillars.

The Dragon Pillars seem like they would be really generically useful, and even the two disc-shaped pieces and the stairway+landing (in step 1) look like they have decent terrain conversion value -- for example, you could cut off the back half of it and make a cool arced balcony to a building.

£2 a figure is good value by normal GW standards.

Yup. At $3 per model, that's very reasonable. I think it's cheaper than most of the stuff I bought, and I started buying in the late 90s!

GW has done this for some other kits, the first one I'm familiar with was the Witchfate Tor. It had "Made in China" on the box, so perhaps this is the same?

The gates are made in China, as I think, all the new scenery is.

Also there is sprue - it's just been clipped off already. There are the marks where the sprue used to join.

Every AoS piece of terrain so far has been made in China, including Occulam and Dias.

The Promethium pipe relay was the same- no sprue, just bits in a cardboard box.

The WarStore had several of the new terrain kits for AoS at GenCon in their booth. I thought they looked really nice, but I don't have a need for them.

My Ophidian Gateway was on a sprue.

Interesting that these aren't.

I don't trust my kids with the way that thing stands, so I'd be tempted to do some converting into little terrain bits and pieces instead of its intended design.

Same reason I haven't picked up those gateways yet.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

You're welcome guys -- here is another picture of top part of the dias, with the pieces just resting in place so that you can see the dragons at different angles. Also, for the top caps that I neglected to photograph the first time.

Sigmarite is there to give you an idea of scale -- the 50mm base fits the circle in the center of the dias exactly

So what you are saying is that this terrain kit is a glorified photoset for characters?

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

No, I'm saying the center is exactly 50mm. A sculpted disc fills in the spot where input a model (but you can put a model on top of it). You can place models on the Dias between the dragons, in the center, on the stairs, and anywhere on the lower level. It looks like this complete:

But feel free to bash it because it's by GW

The terrain shown so far is the one high point of AoS for me.

Gaaaawwwwd I wanna put my lousy painting to use on those Bloodreavers!

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion

It's pretty, but doesn't seem very in-game useable, unless you're just looking for something that gets in the way of movement (which is a valid use for terrain). It doesn't appear to be something that would be easy to place models upon, except for a very limited fashion.

Well yeah...it's meant to be a "foci" for a Priest to be set upon.

Well, for certain, it's not a hill

Models, especially 25mm and 32mm base ones, will fit readily anywhere on the Dias.

Remember, this is a 'herohammer' style game, not a ranked up one, making this sort of terrain quite useful. But it's no less useful than any of the old Fantasy terrain, which I always liked (and have a bunch of) too. I think a lot of the old terrain is actually more useful in the new game than it was before (like Magewrath, and the floaty throne for instance).

Yep. And here's the warscroll for the Dragonfate Dais (and not 'dias' )

Unless I'm missing something, "dais" is the correct spelling for "a low platform for a lectern, seats of honor, or a throne."

Been super pumped about the new terrain but only seen the Ophidian Archway in person thus far.

It is, but people have been writing "Dias", like Juan Dias. I don't know why it can't be a "Chaos Daemonic Dais", for the inevitable "Choas Deamonic Dias"...

On the perfumed wind

Got it. Wasn't sure who we were laughing at.

As far as the Blood Reavers go, looking forward to seeing them in the flesh. First impression is that they're a little more static than the ones in the starter. I really liked the motion in the starter set figs, so hopefully that is conveyed a little better than it looks at first glance.

The preorders are up on the New Zealand site.

From what I can tell, it's a mix of static/mobile poses.
It also looks like they just give you two of the same sprue.
