http://m.uk.ign.com/articles/2015/07/15/new-warhammer-40000-action-rpg-announced

Budapest-based developer NeocoreGames has announced Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr; an action-RPG it’s building in collaboration with Warhammer 40,000 creator Games Workshop.

NeocoreGames describes Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr as a “persistent sandbox action-RPG” and explains that the single-player campaign will thrust players “into a grim and secret war among the stars as the agents of the ever-vigilant Inquisition.” NeocoreGames also promises that, after the campaign concludes, the story will continue “in a colossal sandbox game” that the developer claims will give players “years of constant entertainment, gradual development and a continuous flow of content that enriches the action-RPG gameplay.”

“There’s a reason why we chose the world of Warhammer 40,000: it’s intense, brutal, visceral – a perfect material for an action RPG,” said producer Zoltán Pozsonyi in a statement. “Working with Games Workshop, we’re doing our best to bring a high quality game to the community. We’re huge fans as well, so we care deeply about this game.”
Hungarian studio NeocoreGames, founded in 2005, has developed several other RPGs, including King Arthur and The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing.
The announcement itself doesn’t linger on any real specifics so we don’t know a great deal else about Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr at this stage. It’s due out in 2016 for PC, Mac, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Well that sounds great on paper, but so does just about any video game.

A lot of promises. I'm skeptical this will turn out half as good as what they're promising, but set me in cautiously optimistic and curious mode.

I haven't played King Arthur or Van Helsing, so I don't know how good of a studio this is.

*Edit* A quick google search shows both games were solidly average to above average.

At the very least, I can probably expect this game to be worth the asking price, and provide a few dozen hours of entertainment. Here's to hoping, eh.

OK, I'm actually interested here. If the production values are there, an Inquisitor-based ARPG could be the best thing the to happen ever! And it's for consoles, which is awesome!!

Interested, but unsure if it'll be any good.

So, is this going to be a "real" game or another offering of the showelware GW has been giving out licenses for recently?

Inquisitor as a setting would be ripe for a potentially great game.

It looks like it'll be a real game.

The devs have made a few solidly average games according to reviews. Nothing ground breaking or excellent, but certainly playable and enjoyable from what I've come across. They're full PC/Console games. By the promises in the OP, sounds like a pretty big game. I'm picturing a Mass Effect-ish gameplay generally, which I wouldn't mind.

Did the two of you bother reading anything past the title? Serious question, because nothing in the OP, the article, the video, or the devs history indicates it would shovelware.

Unless of course you consider a full fledged console game and a strategy PC game to be shovelware.

It's a shame it's not a Big studio doing it but hopefully they will do a good job.

Never played either of the studios games before I'll have to take a look on YouTube for some gameplay vids.

I've played through all three of the Van Helsing's, and whilst the third felt rushed, number two was a really solid ARPG with plenty of content and a few nice touches which set it apart from similar games.

If this is from the same internal team, then I've higher hopes for it than for certain other licensed games.

One of the more promising licensed games. The King Arthur games were competent, even verging on the enjoyable.

I did actually. All I see is another license handout from GW to a developer who's made some middling games. They could do a good job but I doubt we'll see a game to the level of Dawn of War or Space Marine.

I would let you sell your soul for a fallout 1 type 40k RPG.

These devs have made good games I think, so this has potential to be good, maybe even great.

None of that makes it shovelware by any stretch. Even if the game bombs, it still wouldn't be considered shovelware.

"The incredible adventures of Van Hellsing" is an average ARPG, nothing new in terms of mechanics or game play. I've enjoyed the setting as it was based on more eastern European part and the names of the creatures were also named that way. Was quite refreshing, I can't say it wasn't worth of 4€.

Disagree. On the face of it, it is yet another game made from the recent GW IP handouts currently being sold willy nilly. It may have a bigger budget than many recent attempts and it may end up being a quality piece that takes it above the term, but until then, you'll have to excuse me while I lump it with the rest of the recent efforts.

Might be worth waiting for the latest of their titles "deathtrap" to go on sale.

anyways it won't hurt to judge until after the game is released.

So this isn't the Eisenhorn game with Mark Strong? Hmm...

Is it weird that I take issue with 40K games that have American accents on their main characters?

Mark Strong? I wish. I'm still bitter and delusionally hopeful (read: it might happen!) we'll get a Space Marine sequel in the future.

Never played them either but I do recall seeing them frequently on Steam. Looking at those reviews the games certainly seem mediocre at least, which is something. Will have to watch some videos or grab a copy during a Steam Sale / Humble Bundle.

Solidly average is a whole lot better than the GW shovel wear that is being farmed out as of late.

Yeah, while the devs don't have too much of a history to go on, they seem solidly average, producing completed games with some amount of polish with reasonable mechanics that don't particularly stand out or above other offerings.

Given that, its not unreasonable to at least hope this trend continues (or improves!) with this 40k game. I'll play a 70/100 game with a 40k theme if the price is right, so I'll be watching these guys. I mean, its a year away, but still, ever watchful.

Its a shame Rocksteady isnt giving 40k the Arkham treatment, I think they could make a similar game (but far better).

Still, the press release certainly sounds interesting, if they can deliver what they are promising it should be great.

Oh, that's the company that made the VanHelsing game. It really wasn't that bad, but it wasn't too remarkable either.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/215530/

It was somewhat of a Diablo-like game. Shove an Inquisitor skin on that game, let me explore 40k places, and it seems like a great game.

Long story short, the developer isn't a shovelware dev. They have experience in genres that are very relevant to what this game will probably become.

I feel the same way, it's horribly out of place. Americans have no place in 40k!
