Is Tau Gue'vesa from IA3 still legal? Do they have to be taken as allies?

25 pts for a group of 6 guardsmenn loitering around backfield to speedbump in front of broadsides, or to camp home objectives does seem pretty cheap.

Why wouldn't IA3 still be legal? IA1 and IA2 are.

4 points per model sounds pretty cheap to me.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Typo. I meant it does seem cheap. I think I'll get 2x6 of them then, since I have the IG from before.

I just asked since I havent reallly seen anyone talk about the gue'vesa for a long time... They were somewhat popular back in the days. Perhaps since it was one of the very few "allied" and "convert your own" models before 6th edition.

People generally don't use them since they have less utility than an allied detachment or Kroot snipers, but would still work great due to their point cost to hold objectives.
Just watch out for CC with any Imperium army, even other IG should be able to massacre them.

Gluing a couple of Tau should pads on to them as we speak.

They'll be objective holders, though if their sergeant is given a pulse rifle, he can actually glance rhinos and penetrate any av 10 from the rear.

I thought they might be usefull speadbumps for crisis/stealth suits to jump behind as well, should they lack any cover.

Heck even sniper drones might be protected for a turn by these guys, and if wiped in a single combat turn all the better; the opponent assault team can be shot at next turn

Didn't that IA book specifically state that they were only legal for the missions presented in the same?

I can't imagine anyone having a major issue though, as they're dirt old an not super useful. You could just do what I did and ally in some converted Militarum Tempestus models as Tau Gue'Vesa. I didn't want to use regular IG because I wanted them to have better weapons. MT with Fire Warrior heads work out pretty well.

The Tau Gue'vesa were removed as a seperate army in the IA3 2nd. I think becuase Tau and IG were BB at the release.

They were never legal with the current book. It says that unit can only be used for those mission packs

They'd be motherflipping excellent at minning out the troop section for a regular Tau Empire detachment, and since fire warriors and kroot are by no means competitive, less of them is often good.
If they were legal, with the current meta, they would be the most competitive troop choice for a non FSE primary

If you play a unit like this it is only to min out your troops cost. You want them to be targeted because if they are killed you won't even notice

A pity they are not legal after all. The Tau could do with a little variety.

Since I've already glued the models, I am going to take them as allied Inquisition warband. The unit with 6 acolytes costs 24 points, and I'm sure I can find use for an inquisitor hq choice from the allied contingent.
