Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Just like last month, this poll will run for 48 hours, with the highest-polling entry being the theme for next month's challenge and the second-highest given another shot in the next Subject Poll.

For July 2015, the subjects you can vote on are:

Something Old, Something New:- your entry should either be a sculpt from before 2000, or a newer model painted in the style of 'classic' GW models from the same era.

It's a Kind Of Magic:- Your entry must be magical in nature. Anything from a 40k Psyker to a Malifaux Necromancer, a Warhammer Mage to a magical construct.

Looted:- your entry should be a model in the 'wrong' army, such as an Ork-looted Land Raider or Skaven-enlsaved Humans

Rise of the Machines: your entry must be something mechanical, such as a robot, drone or vehicle. Cyborgs are permitted, but no straight organics are allowed!

So, what would you like to paint in August?

Those are all good categories, I could do any of those probably except for Looted, and I might be able to come up with something for that.

My August should be waaaay calmer than July, so may actually get the chance to join in again this time.

Paradigm - would a Witchling Stalker fit the bill for Kind of Magic?

...! If Rise of the Machines wins, I might be able to enter my resurrected smashed Aquila. That'd cap off a really special project.

The title would be oddly appropriate for a phoenix-esque revival too.

What if the piece is a crashed vehicle terrain piece, if rise of the machines wins that is.

What are the rules for this painting challenge?

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

This is the first one I need to wrack my brain to think of something I have that fits. Well, that fits and I want to paint. I’ve got some arcoflagelents collecting dust that I need to do some day, but they are not fun at all. I’ve also got an old metal wraithlord my younger self was incapable of assembling. I was just planning on using the bits to base with, but I think he might get some pins and greenstuff. I think he’s going to rise from the grave. Assuming I can find all his parts...

Yep!

Yeah, but you've got a Freeblade Knight that I fully expect to come stomping in the general direction of this challenge!

I'm honestly not sure what I've got. It's been all alien bugs, DE assassins and Infinity-style sci-fi on my desk for a while, so I'll have to have a good rummage...
