No Windows 10 topic? Any other early adopters out there? I took the plunge on my home PC for giggles mainly, not because I was particularly dissatisfied with Win 7 (which in point of fact, i had set up and configured nicely - worked well and booted super quick).

Found some interesting bugs so far - the Windows search function seems to turn itself off at random, the maps app and Edge browser insist I am located in Dundee despite actually living 500 miles south and there is no apparent way to tell it otherwise, the mail app works fine until my wife checks her email using Edge browser and then it gets confused and out of sync.

Final Lib not working so well - random freezes and lock ups. Chaos Gate won't work at all.

Apart from that, all going well! To be fair, I like the look and feel of it so it's not all bad.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's my motto, and unless W10 has some amazing new features (heh, yeah right), I'm just gonna stick with W7

I'm on W7 right now, and see no need to upgrade to W10 as of yet. I'll wait for the first set of updates or a major service pack before deciding. I also want to see what impact it has on gaming, as I am a big PC gamer. Not all new versions of Windows have been gamer friendly upon release.

Gamers often have better gear than most, and odd-setups.
So, drivers are a big issue for us, and anything that is a niggle for others is a show-stopper for us.

I registered for the upgrade, but I must be special. No update for me yet...

The new version of DirectX apparently gives a performance boost.

I heard that DX 12 doesn't actually do much at the moment as no games use it and any performance boost at the moment is supposedly slight at best. I'm sure that will change though.
My big problem with W10 is that is it rammed absolutely full of spyware.

I got a copy of it on my laptop.
Better than windows 8, but worse than win7

At least it's better than Windows 9 which had some odd design choices like designing an interface for smartphone users which did not translate well in a PC environment.

I upgraded from Win 7 more as an excuse to format my hardrive of all the unused programs and trash files. Been running real smooth and once you turn off the NSA-ware it's really slick. I haven't tested any of my games yet besides Dota 2 though.

I downloaded it and now I can't play Attila:Total War.

The feth was I thinking.

I run Linux 99.999% of the time so, yeah, if I get Windows 10 literally for free, sure! It is always nice to test new, exotic systems. Gives me ideas about some features that coulo end up in Gnome/Linux if they turn out to be good.

Not gonna upgrade from Win 7. Everything I want to run, runs fine. No need to fix what isn't broken.
Also: Win 10 is gonna spy big on you, you have to change a LOT of settings to get some privacy. And if you need to re-install Win 10 because you switched hardware, you need to buy it. The free upgrade is only for the hardware setting you have at the moment of first isntalling it.

So, upgrade to W10 on a spare PC or HDD, and you'll get the choice to clean-build later on.
As long as your MS Live account has registered that you've upgraded once, that PC is unlocked for clean builds, IIRC.

I don't personally need to worry about buying new hardware - I have an MSDN sub through work so I can get just about as many copies of Windows as they care to throw at me.

Been using it for a few days now and it has really grown on me, I'm liking it a lot, even more so than Win 7. Once the few minor irritating bugs get ironed out, I can see me liking it even more.

Had a go at installing it on a spare PC at work today. I didn't like the non-indicative, what was it now, "this will take just a moment" messages that it gave when it really meant "this will take half an hour". Beyond that it seems to be stable enough and chalk full of the features you'd expect from a Windows OS. Not sure about the store, which reminds me of Ubuntu, but apparently 8 had that as well.

I'll properly look at later in the week once I can get off of a corporate 7 machine onto one of the spares again. I suppose though there's not much that can be said other than personal opinion though, as there's already enough tech blogs out that have torn the thing apart.

Seems fine. Till the thing starts acting up it'll stay that way. Till I have to diagnose a system and find out that it acts completely different from its predecessors or something that is. Which I doubt. Luckily the companies who I work for are still only just moving over the 8 (wherein lay the problems), though that really means that I'll be sitting there looking at one of those machines and knowing that there's something so much better a few years away from adoption.

I'm going to hold off from trying it out until I get another build going. Then I'll use a fresh install... not an upgrade.

So it'll probably be half a year before I get to try 10.

For now I'll stick with the 8 that this sub-optimal laptop comes with (ugh 8GB of ram... who uses only 8GB of ram?)

I by no means claim to have a nice laptop for gaming, as it wasn't made with that in mind, but it has 8gb of ram and has been living up to my expectations of the games I wanted to play. Granted, with my current computer I can't delve into every game and genre I would want to, but its been handling itself with what I've thrown at it so far.

I've got a legit copy of Windows 7 I bought from the store, and can I feth get the little window to appear in my task bar so I can actually get a copy.

I've tried downloading every update imaginable, but Microsoft being Microsoft I have got nowhere.

If I wasn't such a stubborn arsehole I would end my self-imposed Apple ban.

I plan on building a computer sometime soon, but that could mean in a few years, or in some months, I don't really know yet, but it'd be nice to have one.

Anyway, I don't think I'll be getting Windows 10 with this computer, since I'm fine with its current state, and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Huh, you can use Windows 8.1 drivers on 10. Cool.

I had a quick play in a shop today. No all programs? or did I miss it.

I updated it and I'm in love with the new version. I was using 7 and pretty happy with it, but can't complain about 10

It is called All Apps, I believe and is the first entry from the bottom when you click the Start button

Mine finally started downloading today... I'm scared to upgrade :( what if it breaks everything? I never worry about Apple updates but I always get worried when I do windows updates. Dunno why. I can opt to upgrade from 8 to 10 but its on my t300 and I've heard its turned a few of my coworkers tablets into bricks so I'm holding off on it for now.

Won't touch it. The mandatory updates alone make me avoid the OS. There have already been conflicting issues with Nvidia drivers and W-X updates, and the NSA-ware is putting me off. I can hold out on Windows 7 for a few more years. I will probably end up switching to Linux down the road, as M$ will probably just double down on the policies.

Just updated- loving it. MUCH MUCH better than 8.1 . Everything works.

Panicked a bit though when I was updating it. Blank screen for a few minutes had me thinking "Oh feth. Have I just bricked my computer?" My patience paid off though and it updated without a problem!
