Just because I own a pink and white Commissar, a glittery tank and a literal rainbow of Chaos Warhounds, doesn't mean I should be typecast for life.

Back on topic: I really do like the themes that mean folk aren't having to paint in ways they wouldn't necessarily, there's no forcing anyone to do things they don't enjoy.

Also I'm practising realistic flames at the moment, I think i'm getting the hang of it, though the airbrush tutorials all assume you're doing it red-on-black, not blue on white. getting the shapes right first, anyhow. Think i've just cracked it.

Single colour test. I think I need to make the curve template smaller to compensate for my lack of time and practise.

Yeah I'm not feeling the flame (heh)

I actually thought the colours would be reversed, but this could work as well. The two main licks of flame at the bottom and on fin 3 aren't really defined enough for me.

Of course, I have never done flames, so what the hell do I know. It is definitely close though, a few more practice runs and you'll be there (the tops of the flames, for example, look great).

Also, whatsup, I heard you like blue flames;

I'll be honest, it's about the fifth time I've picked up this brush with paint in to do anything other than basecoat... Usually I use an Aerograph Super 63, which has all the aggression of a farting bumble bee. If I could get that to cooperate, I can usually do handwriting with it, but it's a bugger to get going lately... I'd love to use it to freehand the flames instead.
Going ahead this way, because I can depend on the Iwata I did this with, but it's crayons compared to the fountain pen, and I'm struggling.

We're also going to see very little of the over-all shape, as each wing has spars and supposed, and the caps will be painted solid. So i think I need to shrink those shapes down a lot, or it'll look like arctic camo.

1. Go to bed.

ii. I don't think the video is going to work (or having white flame to blue tendrils) on a white coloured ship.

c. I think the flames should come from the front edge, not the corner, that'd give you a lot more definition

IV. I don't know why I have done this in a list

1] ...Yes mum.

II] Not being argumentative, but I think they need to be diagonal or vertical (in relation to the wing in that picture).
Think about the depth of the wing spars vs the width - there's not enough width for a flame running from the front when you also account for the frames.
I can also have them licking up the engine holding box shape if I choose to do so.

C] What I should probably do for white is build up with a three tone blue, then do white flames over, and build up again. I didn't on the test as it's mostly me getting to grips on with the template.

Ah.. I wasn't doing a false-modesty thing there, heh, I mean that I don't have time to practise or do this repeatedly - I've taken on too much this month and I'm ever so slightly rushing.

Looking at this pic on my phone, the overall effect is okay when it's small. Think I need to scale down.

Hey Paradigm. I got a few ideas for next months painting challenge.

Orks (pretty self explanatory)

Small and Weak (small miniatures, like Grots and Ratlings)

Can you add those to next month's poll?

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Well for the OOP suggestion you could do an old model or an older paint scheme if you are a newer guy to the hobby?

A lot of the older themes that didn't make it were so cool. I'll have to go back through each one and bring them in here with a post, I think there was a knight one or a lighting one that would have been cool.

Well, we seem to like broad themes, so why not just make the theme "old school"

Either an older model, an older paint scheme, or something that in the fluff is described as old and/or obsolete (as opposed to old and awesome).

So, finished. Not awesome, but I've always found myrmidons difficult to paint, and I'm happy with it.

Retribution of Scyrah, Griffon Myrmidon.

Spoiler:

As unencumbered as the wind, the Griffon moves freely to strike at the time and place of our choosing-Invictor Captain Chysor.

And his Marshall, a Dawnguard Scyir. I painted these two together to use in a game tomorrow. The Diligent and Ambitious, shoulder to shoulder with his Iron Sentinel.

And, just for fun, I mocked up the two of them making a stand against the Houseguard of Ghyrrshyld, Lord of House Vyre, as the Dawnguard tear down the tyrant.

Remember the pride of your house, of your ancestors, as we fight against those who would annihilate our future-Arsyr Norcyl.
For by the manner of their deaths shall ye know them.

Anyway, looking great everyone!

Edited to make the damn pictures work.

Funny enough, we did have something very similar in a couple of recent polls. It got enough votes to make a second poll, but lost out in the end. While I may well revisit it at some point, it won't be for a while so as to keep things changing up.

Kind of like this idea. The other thing I've just thought of, though it won't be for a while, is a list picked from the four most popular challenges. Might save that for the 1-year anniversary of the challenge (Assuming we're still going by then!) or perhaps a 'Christmas Special', it'd be cool to see how far everyone had come over the year!

I think that´s a great idea. Christmas-Special: do your best mini?!

How about something like: Hero of the battle / Hero of the day for next month? Might be a big range including small units up to apocalyptic giants.

Big Damn Hero could be a lot of fun.

What’s the opposite of “Rise of the Machine”? Bring it Down? Resistance is futile? Humanity unleashed? Hold the Line?

I’d still like to see “CHARRGGGGEEE!” as an alternative to the stealthy we had.

I've wondered what "Adversity" could be worded as. "Against all odds"? Perhaps?

That lends itelf to dioramas, single figures, even terrain (wrecks and such).
