Truly a tragedy. I am somewhat shocked I haven't heard more about it.

Montana Couple Killed After Helping Stranded Motorist

By CHRISTINE HAUSER JULY 31, 2015

It apparently started as a gesture of help to someone in need, with a Montana couple and their daughter stopping on the side of a road to assist a man who was stranded.

But the authorities said that the encounter soon turned deadly. The stranded man fatally shot the couple and injured their daughter because he was “tired of waiting” and the daughter had “laughed at him.”

Those were the words that the suspect, identified as Jesus Deniz, 18, of Wyoming, used when he spoke to F.B.I. officials investigating the killing near the small town of Pryor, Mont., on Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

On Friday, Mr. Deniz was scheduled for an initial appearance at Federal District Court in Billings.

I'd bet good money he's not a US citizen.

Yes, you are right Frazzled, but he was legally admitted to the U.S. back in 2013. I don't really think it matters if he was a citizen or not. This certainly isn't going to help the immigration conversation though.

This is why I don't stop to help anyone while driving. You can't trust anybody these days.

I hope they give him the death penalty. These people tried to be damn good human beings and lost their life to a scumbag like this. And he even admitted to killing them? Open and shut case if he admitted it. String him up in the public square.

I'll wait for the spineless posters to tell me why I'm wrong. The usuals should be showing up soon.

I agree with everything you said minus not helping people. I don't always stop and help but I do if I am able to. Sometimes I'm working and my schedule is way too tight to stop and waste 10 minutes or more helping. I know that sounds bad to some but it is what it is

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Part of the tragedy is it will reinforce the 'dont stop' mentality by giving excuses as to why not to.
Yes stopping to help strangers can dangerous, but so can crossing a road, eating a boiled sweet or going to the toilet.
I try and stop to help people when I can, it makes me a better human being to give a gak..

This was a handed-on-a-plate carjacking gone wrong, it appears from context the scumbag decided to take the car as soon as the victims had stopped, and not after they took a long time trying to fix things, but it would help clarify matters if this was explained more.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I agree, we should have new legislation that says that NON-US Citizens can't purchase weapons in the US. That way people can't come here, stay for 90 days and purchase a weapon. But at the same time it doesn't come into conflict with the 2nd amendment since the constitution only applies to LEGAL US Citizens and not every schmuck coming to visit.

The constitution only applies to legal US citizens?

That's cute.

I imagine that the killer was executed without a trial as well because the constitution doesn't apply to him?

As to the story: what a piece of scum.

Parts of the constitution apply to citizens and other parts do not. For example, you can't be denied a fair trial because you are Canadian.

However in most states non-US citizerns can't purchase guns legally.

However again that is irrelevant since it apparently is very easy to get hold of guns illegally if you want to.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

I was replying to the blanket "no constitution for non-citizens" statement.

However in most states non-US citizerns can't purchase guns legally.

Incorrect.

Most restrictions on firearm purchases are based on residency instead of citizenship. Foreign citizens who are legally in the USA are allowed to purchase firearms as long as they have the required documentation. Here is a quick checklist for running the background checks including the required documentation for this group of people:

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/federal-firearms-licensees/ffl-tip-sheet-for-non-u.s.-citizens-purchasing-firearms-1

However again that is irrelevant since it apparently is very easy to get hold of guns illegally if you want to.

Very true. Again, I was just replying to the whole "non-us citizen, no constitution for you" rhetoric.

Its funny. up in UC santa cruz, there is a culture of hitchhiking on campus and off. its perfectly fine to try to catch a ride to the gym when to busses aint running, or catch a ride downtown.

Also, Donuts in the 7/11 parking lot is fine right?

Federal law may not prohibit foreigners buying guns if permanent residents however state law often does.

Gotcha.

Although I honestly would be surprised if gun-laws were more restrictive in that neck of the woods. But didn't the article also say that he was probably from somewhere else?

Edit: After doing a quick summary search, it seems that 22 states have stricter requirements on purchasing than the federal government. So it seems that in the other 38 there is no restrictions for non-citizens.

Terrible.

If you see someone on the side of the road that needs help, contact the Highway Patrol or local cops to go help them.

Besides, they can help them way better than I can. I can change a tire with the best of them, but anything beyond that and I won't be any help.

The Weinermobile?

No no the wienermobile is a crapped out car that my own wife backed into and dented the side while parked at the house ("its fiiiiinnne" she said sighing heavily when Frazzled screamed like a girl). GC's car is Dad's old Nissan. Dad liked to play with engines being a former motorcycle racer. It is both pristine looking and...tweeked.

Don't lock him up, execute him, preferably in a horrible fashion. I don't want to be paying his prison bill forever in the form of taxes.

True, but I think there was a survey of death row inmates and they actually feared death more than life in prison so there is that. If you want to do the life in prison thing though send him to adx supermax, that place is a walking psychological torture building.

Only because our system has too many appeals and delays.

If we either limited appeals or have much shorter unmovable deadlines it would be much cheaper.

Give them 5 years to prove their innocence, then at the end they get a .45 magnum point blank to the base of the skull. Guaranteed instant painless death. No possibility of botching chemicals or other crap.

The .45 would fall under cruel and unusual punishment which is outlawed by the 8th amendment. Don't get me wrong I believe that some people do deserve to die, mostly the most heinous of crimes serial kills/serial rapists, but there are better ways.

Shooting is cruel and unusual? I think you find it tough to show that instant destruction of the nervous system is in any way cruel. And people have been executed with bullets for centuries, its hardly unusual.
