I've actually been really impressed with how relatively spoiler-free they've kept the promotional stuff so far.

All of these countless teasers and trailers and TV-spots and interviews... and I still have no fething idea what is actually going to happen in this movie beyond 'Here's some characters, and some fights that they're involved with in some way!'

Loving it.

I feel the same way.

However, the true test will be next week... it opens on the 16th in France, Italy, and some other European countries and the 17th in the UK and Germany before being released on the 18th here in the States. Even though I'm seeing it in the evening of the 17th, those couple of days before it comes out where I live will be the ultimate test...

The last trailer gave everything away. Poe and Boyega start out as enemies, sparring verbally and physically until Rey shows up and unites them against the real enemy, Kylo Ren. Han and Chewie turn out to be a dream sequence.

Im glad, here in NZ due to timezones etc I think I see it 2 hours after the first showings in the world. So when I start watching it in a weeks time the first viewers will have just finished their movie.

Not that spoilers bother me at all personally but at least im going in with a clean slate.

Yet another trailer, with even more awesome! Ignore the subtitles unless you're Chinese, and just look at all that epic!

Well it doesn't spoil anything, which is good, and it has some more BB-8, which is also good.

My daughter thought it was amazing because of the Kylo Ren voiceover, whom she recently informed me was "cooler than Darth Vader."

Somewhere in south-central England.

Until last night I had only actually watched the first released trailer, and I'm not going to watch any of the others. However, it is now one week to SW Day, and a trailer was in the advert break on telly last night, so I caught it, and it looked jpolly exciting.

Hopefully my family will agree to a cinema visit during the Christmas holiday. I saw all three of the original films in the cinema, and I would like to recreate that experience now that Star Wars seems to have got good again.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

That's because it belongs to the First Order, who are (compared to the Empire) doubly evil. Evil Deluxe, you might say. Evil: The Directors' Cut, with 2 disks and a bonus set of special features. They have to one-up the original baddies somehow, and the Empire set the bar pretty high with the Death Star...

And now I think about it, all I can see is that scene from Spinal Tap, but with Kylo Ren:

Interviewer: 'But why not make 10 more evil?'
Ren: 'But this goes up to 11. That's, like, one more evil than 10. So it's more evil.'
I: 'But it's still the same amount of evil, isn't it?'

Oh that theory is BS. Wedge never fired on the exhaust port. In fact, he attempted to abandon the Rebel mission at a critical juncture. Darth Vader then ordered him to be spared. Wedge was an Imperial Agent

http://www.inquisitr.com/2611695/economics-of-a-death-star-revealed-star-wars-battle-stations-would-have-caused-galactic-financial-crisis/

Spoiler:
As the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens looms, the internet is flooded with content (both crazy and otherwise) dissecting the events of a galaxy far, far away. A new study published by an assistant professor of electrical and systems engineering takes an unusual look at the original trilogy, however, modeling the economic systems that surrounded the construction (and destruction) of the two Death Stars, as well as the collapse of the Imperial government. As it turns out, the Emperor’s twin battle stations would have had a cost far greater than most fans ever realized.

Zachary Feinstein, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis. As AV Club notes, he recently released a paper, “It’s A Trap: Emperor Palpatine’s Poison Pill,” which examines the systemic risk surrounding the construction of the Death Stars. As part of his research, Feinstein calculated the price tag for each battle station (using the Manhattan Project as a real-world analogue), as well as the scope of the entire galactic economy ($4.6 sextillion).

It turns out that the first Death Star would have cost the Empire roughly $193 quintillion to build, while the second battle station would have had a much higher price tag, coming in around $419 quintillion. If you’re thinking that’s a lot to spend on two (relatively) easily defeated moon-sized warships, you’re not alone. If you were a citizen of the Empire, however, the destruction of the Death Stars would have had almost unimaginable economic consequences for you, as Yahoo News points out.

Tweet 0

According to Feinstein, the collapse of the Imperial economy after the destruction of the second Death Star over Endor would have required a bailout on the order of 15 to 20 percent of the galactic economy (which totals out at $4.6 sextillion, remember). Without this intervention, the events of Return of the Jedi would have sent the Star Wars galaxy into an almost unthinkable economic tailspin, as it essentially experienced the effects of the Great Depression on a galactic scale overnight.

Feinstein says that without the required bailout, there would be “a non-negligible chance” that the galactic economy would contract by over 30 percent in just days. This is comparable in the real world to the total peak-to-trough losses of the Great Depression (over four years). If you were a rank-and-file Imperial citizen who had his or her life savings tied up in the Empire’s version of the stock market, the outlook for you would have been exceptionally grim indeed. Looking to the embattled Rebel Alliance for help would have been almost a non-starter as well, according to Feinstein, who asserts that the fledgling New Republic wouldn’t have had the time to act economically, summoning the “political will and financial resources” to bailout the galactic economy only after it was already too late.

After modeling the galactic economy and banking sector, Feinstein asserts that his most surprising result was the size of the economic collapse facing the Star Wars universe in the wake of the Death Stars’ destruction. For those interested in digging deeper into Feinstein’s conclusions, both the highlights of his paper and the entire thing have been posted online. The newest chapter of the Star Wars saga, meanwhile (which doesn’t include a Death Star per se), hits theaters in just under two weeks.

I hate to bring things round to an earlier conversation that's dead and buried but.... I just saw this and well, it does go to show what I was saying about Star Wars.

2 Days, 12 hours and 26 minutes until Star Wars.

Definitely need popcorn for this movie.

We tried watching all the Starwars stuff before hand but couldn't make it through the prequels or the Caravan of courage movies.

Perhaps against my better judgement, I'm going to endeavour to do I-VI in one day before I see VII... In chronological order, so it gets better as it goes on! (well, at least until Empire!) I am working on the basis that (having not seen the Prequels in about 4 years) there will at least be some nostalgia for the movies I grew up with, I'll have suitably lowered expectations and hey, maybe at least parts of them will pleasantly re-surprise me... If not, the OT and TFA will just seem even better by comparison!

I'm watching the OT in order on Thursday before I see the Episode VII.

I just don't have it in me to watch the Prequels again.

That was my thoughts too, but in 100% honesty, the only thing that even got me hooked considering I watched the films hundreds of times as a child, was the idea that Jar jar just might be the sith lord.

It's probably worth watching anyway to be sure, but I somehow doubt very much that the new movies will have anything in the form of prequel references to see and if there are im sure it will be the obvious ones you'll remember anyway.

It's not so much the continuity thing for me (even having not seen them in ages, I can still remember most details of the Prequels, should they be referenced) so much as making this whole Star Wars thing more of an event than it already is. If I'm watching the OT, I figure I might as well do the whole lot. As I say, there are bits of the prequels I still like, and perhaps the rest of the films aren't as bad as I remember (seeing as my 'memory' of them has blurred in with years of literally everyone on the internet rubbishing them... I'm hoping they can't possibly be as terrible as the hyperbolic internet rage machine makes out...)

The Jar-Jar theory is just about as stupid as the Batman=Deathstroke in BvS one, I really don't get how/why people twist facts as much as they do to fit these ridiculous ideas...

I think the Darth jar jar thing is the best thing to come from the prequels. That and the Arc fighters from Episode 3. Honestly read the theory which has all the scenes pulled a part, with references and explanations on the darth jar jar joke and you may find the prequels a bit more entertaining. At least the phantom menace anyway.

Darth Jar Jar would have been amazing. But sadly Lucas made Jar Jar far too over the top comical for it to work.
