Watched the film for the 3rd time earlier, definitely the best of the 3 viewings. It's at that perfect point between familiar and new now, so I won't see it again until the DVD.
To (hopefully) settle the TIE debate a little, I can confirm there were definitely a pair of SF TIEs with the regular ones at the battle over Maz's place, making use of their turrets on several occasions.
Also quite interesting is that the TIEs on Jakku were neither SFs nor did they have the red-stripe SF pilots. However, checking that against a couple of trailers and TV spots, they definitely were at some point as the Sky TV pre-order ad in particular (goes into slo-mo-pseudo-3dness so they can try and flog you a copy) definitely shows SF TIEs, turrets and all in that same scene... Obviously that was changed at the last minute for whatever reason.

I really hope that Rey is not Luke's daughter, but I have a feeling the people who think that are right. I still hold she should be Kylo's sister.
However, JJ has a habit of teasing that he is going to do something really different and interesting, but when the big reveal comes..... it is exactly what you expected in the first place.

A middle-class British standard accent is more or less what I speak, not that you can hear me, but anyway it's what is often called BBC English or received pronunciation.
Daisy Ridley has modernised it a bit with the odd slurred syllable, glottal stop instead of a final T, and so on, characteristic of so-called Estuary English. It's subtle and very natural. She sounds to my ears exactly like the well-brought-up girl friends of my daughter. Perhaps it is her normal speaking accent.
John Boyega OTOH has gone for a kind of mid-Atlantic accent. He's a sarf London boy, so his native accent probably is Estuary English.

OK.. makes a bit of sense to me... Though I clicked a link on that wiki article, and now have another question... I'd always thought the Cockney accent basically was cockney rhyming slang (as heard a bit in Lock, Stock, and Two-Smoking Barrels)... but apparently this isn't true.. So, in order to get a proper rhyme slang, would one have to speak in a Cockney accent? As in, would some of the rhymes not rhyme without the accent?

Nah, I disagree. I think it has to be Luke's daughter that pulls him back into the world. It's too easy to say "go away" to a niece or a granddaughter of his old mentor. When it's your own child, and possibly one you thought dead...gotta confront that gak. And I still say that's what that end scene is...a confrontation. IMO.

Well, yes, but at a certain point the weight of the correctness and exactness throttles the joy out of being a nerd.

The true Cockney accent is a genuine regional accent of London, probably more or less disappearing by now, and rhyming slang was supposedly a development of the people who had that accent. However anyone can use Cockney rhyming slang, because it usually rhymes in any dialect of English.
Many people feel that the most authentic Cockney accent was achieved by Dick Van Dyke in the film of Mary Poppins.

The release of the next Star Wars film has been delayed until the end of 2017, Disney has announced.
Star Wars: Episode VIII was due to go on global release in May 2017 but instead will not be aired until the following December.
It will follow The Force Awakens, which is still showing and has become the biggest-grossing film in US history.
In the five weeks since its release, it has earned $861m (£607m) in the US and $1.88bn globally.
Disney did not say why the film had been delayed but there had been speculation that the script was being rewritten.
Production is set to begin next month at Pinewood Studios, west of London.
The new release date means it could come up against another long-awaited blockbuster, Avatar 2, which is set for Christmas 2017 but could be further delayed.
Despite the bad news concerning the postponement, Star Wars fans have the consolation of the spin-off Rogue One, which is due out in December this year.

Dsiney is also releasing a new Pirates of the Caribbean film in May 2017.
My theory is that they are intentionally delaying Star Wars to make sure they don't clash with each other and they think Star Wars will perform better in direct competition with Avatar than Pirates would.

I heard its because they want to do another December release instead of a summer one, higher potential revenue that way.
And yeah, Avatar2 is gonna get creamed if it releases same time period. I think a general rule of thumb is do not release your movie at the same time as Star Wars.

Guardians of the Galaxy II is also scheduled for May, IIRC. It makes sense not to put your movies in competition with one another, but if it was purely a strategic move you'd think they'd keep the big dog in the May slot and move Pirates and/or GotG. *shrug*
That puts Ep. 8 closer to WB's Justice League, but JL should probably have a good 4 weeks to itself before SW mania hits, assuming another mid-December release.

Not really. December is the perfect time to release a high profile movie like this, which will continue into Jan, a dump month meaning your the few movies that are making money.

Also, a movie like Guardians seems to do better in that "end of the school year" time block. It is almost the textbook summer blockbuster.

If you have an ace, you play it and let it beat others' kings, queens and jacks. Saving it to trump twos and threes doesn't make a lot of sense. That's when you play your ten.
Summer is generally better for box office. Sure, there's more competition, but there are also more customers and less chance of things like bad weather wiping out a week of revenue across a region.
Anything's possible, but in this case I tend to believe the reporters saying that it's been pushed back due to rewrites.

Star Wars or Avatar...yeah, that's a toughy to figure out which'll win the December movie award (not a real thing).
I'd be happy to see it in May, as I have no issue going to watch GotG and SW in the same month, but I realize other people budget for movies. So if this helps them out...cool. My budget is straight up "Do I want to see this in theaters? Yes? Ok guys, lets go to the movies."
