I realize that no one can tell you anything, but the point is about a much smaller number of moviegoers in January as there are during the summer months. SW is an ace card that's virtually competition-proof...so typically you'd want to play that during the summer when you have the largest potential pool of customers. The goal is to dominate the large pond, not the small one.

While I realize that the summer is generally speaking, the "money making" season for hollywood.... It's undeniable with the literal record setting performance of SW in December, that you could probably release Episode 8 in any damn month you please, and it will still rake in the dough like raking in dough is going out of style.

Rebels especially this series has been re-canonising stuff left right and centre, so it is definitely plausible. The villains have also been pretty strong throughout, though particularly in the first series (the original Inquisitor was excellent) so a competent Imperial commander would definitely fit.

I started watching Rebels at Christmas.
To be honest, I wasn't too enamoured with the early episodes. - It seemed like the typical kiddy cartoon (which is fine for kids, but I'm not a kid ) along with your joke comedy relief villains.
Then about halfway through the first season, the Joke comedy relief villains get called into... I think it's actually Tarkin's office, if my memory is right... Then they get a lightsaber through the back as The Inquisitor is introduced.

The character was wasted in the film, in my view, and it's difficult to see realistically how she would have managed to escape from the exploding planet, though of course the script can do anything.
My point is that having covered herself with ordure rather than twisted glory, I do not think she will make a worthy villain in the future.

Am I the only one who thinks Phasma might be another dissident like Finn... or maybe a Republic agent in deep cover?
Her actions in the movie don't inmediately brand her as a villiain. She oversees the murder of the civilians on Jakku, but these were Kylo Ren's orders. She gives the shield codes without alerting security or putting up a fight, and her previous relationship to Finn is ambiguous at best (Does she lie to Ren and Hux about having sent him to re-conditioning?)

I did get a "Stern, but caring, commander." read from her. Assuming she survived and isn't just in flashbacks, she could easily turn out to be a bit like Davin Felth. Someone who wasn't originally a traitor but got first hand experience with how her superiors throw those loyal to them under the bus and subsequently had second thoughts.

They definitely wasted Phasma in Force Awakens. Glad they're gonna have a chance to redeem that, at least there needs to be a fight with Phasma of some kind.
Really what they should have done is have the gang beat her in a fight, then stuff her in the garbage after stealing a key card or something off her. She escapes and vows revenge on the heroes for humiliating her and becomes a recurring villain.

The opportunity for that has been lost.
It makes me wonder if Phasma shot more scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor, perhaps just because the film was already getting too long.

If I remember reading things correctly, it's kind of the opposite.
Phasma, as a character, was added pretty late in the process and she was cast even later. Therefore, she only ended up in a handful of simple scenes.

As I understood it Disney was hoping to make a Boba Fett out of Phasma ie a popular character that isn't there much. Instead people seem to have latched onto the Stormtrooper with the baton that fights Finn.

I don't think people have latched on to that stormtrooper.

This.
I think that when you look at SW fandom as a whole, it is very wide ranging and diverse who the "favorite" character is. I think the majority of people's favorite characters are gonna be one of the big 4 or 5 (Han, Luke, Leia, Chewie, Vader)....As a Fett fan myself (as I think I've been pretty vocal about in previous threads), I know that I'm in the minority, but I think that those who like Fett are just more vocal about it.... Then you have people like one of my buddies who's "obsessed" with Storm Troopers. But I definitely wouldn't call Fett/Trooper fans "uberdorks"... though I think we can agree on the Wedge front

It might be because each of Phasma's appearances was lamer than the previous. It was almost like one of those writers' running jokes where they try to run a character into the ground as quickly as possible. There is literally nothing exciting about her character...unless you like chrome.
