The Heavyrail Cannon weapon is better than the Nexus systems, but not as good as its default pulse weapon.

The small blast kills it. That limits its targets a lot. I would have preferred a single target weapon than this dumb small blast. The markerlight support goes up extremely high with the railcannon weapon.

It's small blast means it's going to miss way more frequently than it hits super heavy targets.

Also to all those who bitched about it the Ta'unar is getting a price increase. One more reason to now never take it since grav spam can kill it in one turn and its now even more expensive. Ah well I guess we'll have to survive with two Stormsurge spam which is superior in all ways anyways.

LOL, it needs a points hike. Anything that takes 40 Lascannon HITS to down for 600 points is just stupid. Math: T9, so Lascannon wounds on 4+, suit has 4++ against shooting, so...40 hits=10 unsaved wounds.

If Lascannons are your go to weapon for dealing with Titan level enemies (and I mean Titan, not Imperial Knight) then you're doing something wrong.

Besides, you're better off with Grav as you're wounding on 2's.

That's great to know!
Where in the Guard codex is Grav again?

So yeah. Lascannons are not "great" for dealing with things like that, but guess what? Not every army has access to those things or equivalent weaponry without allying things in.

Which isn't the Guard codex, and as has been harped upon time and time again, people should not be forced to use Allies to deal with crap like GMCs.

Simple fact? Some armies have access to Lascannons as their 'best' AP/S weapon.

Oh, I forgot to take FNP into account, so it really needs 60 Lascannon *hits*.
You're right, the only counters to this 600 point beast should be titans. How many shots from a Double-barrelled turbo-laser destructor will it take to take this thing down? Lets see, each strength D unsaved would will take an average of 2 wounds (D3 wounds) off, so that's 5 wounding hits, and it has a 4++ against shooting, so, only 10 hits. *only*...
My problem is the points cost is just too low. And unlike a vehicle, where weapons can get damaged, etc - so, as hull points get removed, it gets worse - the GMC remains just as killy up to the end.

We all agree its points are to low. FW is fixing this. The GMC rules make no sense for it but probably won't change. Super heavy vehicles also tend to have rules that prevent combat efficiency reduction. Knights are a prime example. I think the thing should have haywire affect it like poison. That one rule added would let FW save face and keep the stupid thing a GMC. And it would make sense fluff wise.
My hard counter to one is a 3 knight beat down. Or ignore it and maim every thing else.

Not for 600points.

Tau can fit a Ta'unar into matches CSM can't fit a titan into.

I do tend to believe the Kx139 armor is slightly underpriced, but less so than is commonly imagined. Comparisons in relative combat strength tend to identify that against Warhound titans (or equivilant), it tends to lose to 4 D weapon shots, but the Tau suit a bit better when it comes to non-titan fights.

When I compare it to Knights on the other hand, it seems to match equivolant firepower fairly well. The Tau's Durability is a bit superior (scaled on point value. it is clearly superior to most knights on a 1-1 basis)

I think the strongest argument to me is the one above about being able to fit the biggest toughest guy into more matches. This does not affect me (who only will bring this model to giant games where the Kx139 will be outclassed by half the models on the table.

my strongest belief on this topic in general, though, is that comparing superheavies between factions (that have access to allied armies) is WAY too nebulous a topic to reach strong conclusions either way.

I do wish ALL Tau suits were treated as walker based vehicle. (which was what it was supposed to be but in the 3rd and 4th editions , GW playtesting pushed them into a trooper with Toughness model. In more modern editions of the 40k rules, This would be feasable, but I would guess GW is likely to uproot from the "models with toughness" concept.

your "Or ignore it and maim every thing else" is really the unsung hero of debate. That's not to say you can lose a game while ignoring an enemy's killer unit, but often you don't have to kill the enemy's biggest toy to win the game.

Althornin wrote:

To my knowledge, Superheavy vehicles are similarly immune to the additional effects from the damage table (like shaken, weapon destroyed) like GMCs...so that comparison only works if you are comparing GMC to regular vehicles.

Tau'nar can literally be tied up all game by a unit of warp spiders or any chaff you throw at it. WS2, 2 attacks base with just d3 stomps. Tau don't even have melee units to countercharge and free it up.

Use your heads, change your strategies instead of trying to outshoot a faction that specializes in ONLY shooting.

Ah yes, that's the same reasoning that Stormsurge doesn't get too roughed up in melee: stomps are a thing.

Ah yes, that's the same reasoning that Stormsurge doesn't get too roughed up in melee: stomps are a thing.

The stormsurge is often taken in groups of two in the ITC in one unit and assaulting them is dangerous due to the number of attacks they get. They will clear combat much faster and have a higher amount of wounds than a single Ta'uinar only for slightly more and put out more damage than a Ta'unar and are in general more price efficient. Raising the Ta'unar cost is going to hurt it big time and take away yet another Tau unit that is viable narrowing us down to Riptide and Y'vahrah spam. Is that what you all want? I hear so much bitching about it, and yet it's the only thing players want us to have and use. Also stormsurge spam.

Don't worry Gamgee!

I'm sure the Yvarha will get nerfed and/or a price hike as well, so you don't have to deal with FedEx or UPS.

The last thing they mentioned of the Y'vahrah was buffing it's shield and the Y'vahrah wing. So who knows maybe you'll see even more of these in every list.

...Gamgee, you're starting to sound like one of those delusional ATT folks that believe that Tau is "not competitively viable", or "only competitive because of the Y'vahra". Tau are a very strong army, and I'm sure that they will still function if the Supremacy suit gets a points bump.
Also, fyi, Y'vahras are basically at price parity with Riptides at the moment, so buy now if you want more.

A Y'vahra wing would probably get me to play my Tau more. Currently they just kind of hang out, but I'd love fielding multiple Y'vahra alongside a Farsight Bomb or something.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.
