I was wondering how people tend to go about this. I Have my first Y-wing and at first I thought I would just do some touch ups. dry brushing, changing the markings (color and scheme), a little OSL on the thrusters, painting the R2 unit ect., The results were not terrible but still a little disappointing. Do y'all tend to completely strip and repaint or do y'all just do touch ups like I have described?

Stikk bommas are special among ork society for one reason - They know when you pull the pin out of a stikk bomb you throw the bomb not the pin!

Just priming over the factory job seems fine to me.

I like to throw mine in Super Clean at least overnight, but it isn't necessary. I also prime mine, usually with Alclad primer, but lots of people say you don't need too. However, if you're just doing some touch ups, you don't need to prime or stripe.

And some, I assume, are good people."

The one ship I repainted, I just primed over the factory paint. It worked out fine!

Are people just touching up the factory job or are the doing complete reprints?

I've done both, when they're just touchups, I just paint over the existing paint. Usually in rebel ships, due to the paint mismatch, I usually repaint entire panels or just highlight / wash existing ones. I also reinforce battle damage, paint some cables, markings, weathering, washes and highlights.
When I repaint completely, I just airbrush a base color, not primer, and go from there. The problem with a complete repaint is that you have to do that to all other similar ships, otherwise, the colours will look different.

The only one I've done was a Bacta War Wedge, which is way different from the stock paint scheme. Sprayed black over the factory job, and I was good to go.
