Well, Games Workshop Halle say it's from the HQ - and it is hardly created by this store (Halle = Germany - it may be originally from another shop though).
Where has that been posted?
Plus, Germany did for awhile have its own HQ.

They posted it in the image comments on their FB site.
Don't know which HQ they mean - as I said, maybe it was created by a non-German shop and just shared.

I think this is the first step in a much larger franchise. GW is dipping its toe in the waters. When they see how well it's selling, we'll start to get separate bundles and sequel games. I fully expect Horus Heresy: Prospero, Isstvan, Terra, Phall, Thrasmas, etc..
Calth - Ultramarines vs. Word Bearers
Prospero - Space Wolves vs. Thousand Sons
Phall - Imperial Fists vs. Iron Warriors
Thrasmas - Dark Angels vs. Night Lords
Isstvan III - Death guard vs. World Eaters (I just put these here because they did not fit anywhere else)
Isstvan V Assault - Iron Hands and Salamanders vs. Emperor's Children
Isstvan V Betrayal - Raven guard vs. Alpha Legion
Terra - White Scars and Blood Angels vs. Sons of Horus
Something like this to include all of the legions would be nice. They could switch up the models by including some specialist units (assault and breacher squads) and new HQs. Vehicles do not fit in the theme of fighting in closed tunnels, but maybe other dread types could be included or ways of including small skimmers.
Oh, plastic Breachers would be beyond awesome! The next set needs to be Phall, and we need Breaher Marines/MkIII Armour, Tartaros Terminators with TH/ SS options and maybe Rapiers in plastic too! GW, make it happen!
Phall does lend itself to the Calth game design. The legions are easy to make new kits for and would be in high demand. It is naturally set in the closed corridors of a ship, compatible with the style of game tiles. Please GW, make these happen.
The only problem is that I am still too poor to even afford this set. Hopefully I can get it when they do a second run next year.
Phall would make a great box 2 set. Swap the Mk IV for Mk III kits, keep the cataphractii, and swap the Contemptor for a Rapier. Give Chaos the Terminator character, and make a Siegebreaker Consul the PA character.
DA vs Night Lords would make a good one as well, that battle where they captured Cruze. Keep 20 Mk IV marines, add 2x5 Mk IV Assault Marines for the Night Lords, add a 3 pack Bullock Jetbike Squad for Dark Angels, Make a larger character sprue with a jetpack character and jetbike character. Leave the Terminators and Contemptor out.

That formation image is still not an official GW and FW design studio product and therefore not part of the rules.
Like all house rules, it is fine to play with, if people agree to.
If someone at GW Halle had any sense he would have put that on the datasheet and on their FB page posting it.

That value is only based on what GW sell them out as, which makes it appear to be a good deal figures wise. My point still stands. FFG produced Forbidden Stars and it costs the same sort of price. Ok you don't get 40k compatible figures, but they still produced a game that has more in it than GW does even with the added expenses on top. That isn't even comparable to Betrayal at Calth. That is a board game, BaC is a board game + a huge pile of wargaming miniatures. The latter has an incredible amount of value to a wargamer, the former does not. I have no idea how you could say it has "more in it".

For converter types, I noticed when I got to touch the plastic contemptor that there are some easy cut points. The waist and the hips can be cut with out difficulty to allow for new posing. The knees not so much though.

I love my blood rage minis, for vikings with axes and spears. They don't have bolters though. So this is the best value for 7 foot tall men in armor with guns.
Anyways.. speculating & wishlisting.. I haven't read any of the HH books so all I know is whatever was in the 40k rulebooks over the years.. but could there ever be a chance of other old timey races in 30k in future expansions? Like Eldar? Orcs? Squats?
Also, when it comes to 40k units & models, what would fit good in the 30k timeline? Rhinos? drop pods? knights? Or are the current models too "modern" ?

At the Heresy, the Eldar and Orks are most certainly active, along with dozens of smaller alien races that the Imperium is trying to wipe out. The major campaign immediately prior to the HH is Ullanor, which saw several Legions and the Emperor and Custodes come together to take on a huge Ork force (incidentally, the leader of this force nearly bested the Emperor, it was Horus that saved him), and the Eldar are (I believe) still reeling from The Fall but are undoubtedly active, and show up in several books.
There are also many human civilisations, both within and beyond The Imperium, that are markedly different to anything in 40k. the 5th HH book from Forge World includes an army list that can cover these, and I believe it does at least hint at using it for not-Squads (as in, I think it refers to abhumans of shorter stature).
As far as 40k goes, there's a complete list somewhere but basically, as far as SM goes Drop Pods are fine, as are standard pattern Land Raiders. Not sure on Rhinos/other Rhino chassis tanks, but since there are the Demios versions from FW I'll say probably not. MkVII (ie. regular 40k) Power Armour came into use towards the end of the Heresy, the Imperial Fists were the first to get it, I think. Raven Guard got MkVI (beaky) first, then it became more widespread. Knights are fine, as are Titans.

Knight models are pretty much fine.
Modern rhinos were around at the time of the heresy - there is a picture of one on page 127 of HH book 3. It explains that the mars pattern was used, and considered easily reproducable, but was also thought to be less environmentally capable than the pre-heresy deimos pattern.

This box might look like a good deal for 40k players as well, if you compare prices.
However, anyone buying lots of bolter marines and terminators for 40k is actually not making a good deal.
Thought i just mention it for perspective.

Even just taking the 30 tactical marines and 5 terminators, the RRP of the box is less than the RRP of 3 boxes of Tacs and 1 box of terminators, then there are the 2 characters plus a dreadnought to take into account too.
Not to mention the oft-ignored board game aspect

It's unlikely to see the Horus Heresy rules expand into Xenos or non-imperium human factions. Forgeworld is telling the story of the Imperial Civil War as Historic Wargaming. Having Xenos in it would be sort of like having a Mongolian Horde army show up in a game for the 100 years war. Sure they were around, but they aren't part of the story that is being told.
As for 40k models; some is exactly correct for the Heresy; the stuff that is right (that I can remember) is this:
- Drop Pods (Legion Drop Pod)-
- Knights
- Land Raiders (Land Raider Phobos)
- Dreadnoughts (Legion Dreadnought)
- Attack Bikes
Other models it depends on how your local group feels.

Well, it's conceivable that somewhere in the future, Games Workshop makes 30k xenos, but those alien races wouldn't have anything to do with humans, and the setting wouldn't be called "Horus Heresy". One problem is that some of the races like Tau and Necron don't make any sense 10,000 years earlier (Necron sleepy time!). And Tyranid would be in the wrong galaxy. You could get a resurgence of Squats (doubtful), but the most likely culprits would be Orks, Eldar and Dark Eldar. But I mean, really, it's not like the Eldar would have been much worried about the Orks. I suppose something to do with Vect would be cool. Another issue is that the appeal of 30k is the symmetrical nature of the forces (and thus balance). Introducing other, different forces makes that rough. Finally, xenos simply don't have as many big, special models as Imperium, and 30k has a lot of big models

well the Tyranids weren't in the galaxy yet, so genestealers wouldn't be around.
the necrons _may_ have been a little active (the fluff around one of the imperial fists campaigns kind of points toward Necrons)
In the World Bearer legion is starting to show the inclusion of Chaos with the Gal Vorbak, Zardu Layak, Mhara Gal Tainted Dreadnought, and several daemons. We can expect more as the HH Campaign continues.
The Blood Angels fight Daemons directly at Signus Prime, so that's probably where Chaos will come into it's own in the Horus Heresy.

I'm pretty excited about this kit coming out as a way of starting a legion army (I already have mechanicum).
But, I never really thought about the game that this set comes with. I don't think that I'll ever play it because I'm going to paint the entire set as Iron Warriors.
Is everyone going to look at this game once then be happy with their essentially 1000pts army like me?

1500 with Pride of the Legion and some upgrades! But otherwise, yes. The tiles may well get used, like my Sedition Wars and Space Hulk ones, for Zone Mortalis or other sci-fi skirmish games, so it's not a waste.
I may give the game a go, but at least one faction will not be from this set, as that's all going in one army.

From Warhammer 40K Wiki the first Imperial contact with genestealers were the Ymgarl Genestealers in about 500.M41, about 200 years before the first Tyranid invasion.

Well, my FW Salamanders legion army have all the bits to be either side in the BaC game, and the plastics will be Alpha Legion, so I can easily keep on playing it, just with different legions than the box intends.
