Regarding the Plastic Horus Heresy Boxed Set:

Well according to my sources within GW the price tag floating around in here of it being £95 is wrong and it’s going to be a three figure price tag. Not going to say the amount as it would be all to easily sourced back to my source. As for those after a release date start thinking about the end of October (expected preorders) start of November time (actual release).

…I’ll expand slightly on the thinking behind why the pricing is likely to be in the realms of what i keep on hearing. The current think is that GW is looking at three gaming systems AOS being the first stage entry level gaming quick to pick up and play and complete with free rules. 40K more complex game to play and greater cost due to codices add ons etc.. Horus Hersey being the top end of the gaming spectrum and aimed at veterans/experienced gamers supposedly complete with even more complex rules.

Ohh and just to add into the mix there may not be just one set release but TWO!!

…I can see how one can think Marine on Marine will be simpler. But the formations the weapons the specialist rules that each chapter had could be become a lot more engaging and much bigger than that of the chapter tactics we currently have. We are talking about an era in which the Primarchs were in command not a set of chapter masters that we currently have. A marine is a remarkable creation but that could never achieve what the Primarchs could. There are units that operated weapons and other things all lost with the Hersey. The game is set while all that stuff is very much still there for use and hasn’t become the stuff of legends and myths. So there is plenty of scope for it to be more complex even if the basic starting block isn’t that gets supplied in the box which is meant to be PACKED to the GILLS.

The Interesting stuff..

- 3 figures in GBP price, more expensive than 40k
- more complex than 40k for rules
- GW wants 3 game systems of progressive increasing complexity and cost from AoS to 40k to HH
- 2 Box sets?!?!
- Box supposed to be "PACKED to the GILLS"

Uhg... if 40k is the middle ground, so much for HH being a low model count type of game. It'll likely just be the FW game.

I think so. But I am happy with 30k as the FW game, if that's the case.

Yeah. This is the company that completely ignored redoing the Bretonnian armybook while a Game of Thrones craze has been sweeping the world for the past 5 years...

If this is what it turns out to be, I'll be happier with GW than I've been for quite some time. I have no problem paying more for HH (or 40k for that matter) as long as the entire product is good; models, fluff, and gameplay. If these jokers have somehow landed on the idea that purposefully decreasing the quality of certain aspects of their products in fact isn't the greatest business model of all times, I'm ready to blow some serious cash on this.

Of course, it's BoLS so it's probably just made-up BS again.

Yeah, I hear you.

It's actually Warseer... BoLS just reposted it. I don't recall Grissom's accuracy record.

BoLS is a magical vortex of de-truthification, though. By reposting stuff they somehow manage to unmake it.

Well, it is a Warseer-rumour, not a Faeit/BoLS-rumour, if an unknown Warseer-rumour.

Probably still bs though.

Given the cost of new release AOS minis, and hence armies, if that is the bottom rung of the cost ladder, the cost of HH must be staggering.

As an aside, complexity for its own sake i not necessarily a good thing. I like the models and I like the Forgeworld rules, so if the GW rules turn out pants on head crazy, there is at least an alternative.

At a loss for why the Genestealer Cult would be returning. It was a neat bit of fluff from the past, but with the power level of armies these days are completely outclassed unless significantly and nearly completely changed from what they once were. Loved all the years I played my Genestealer Cult, but even in a low powered meta I eventually had to sell it off because it just could not keep up with no tanks, and only armored limos for vehicles. It was never a military force, but a small cult that ultimately disrupted a planet to distract the planetary security from an incoming 'nid invasion. They were meant to die, and would be consumed by the 'nid fleet just like everything else on the planet.

Niche army probably. Harlies, Temp Milita and even Admech solo arent top tier but when combined or allied in they do well.
Sure a GC army alone likely wont be tough but given the option to ally to Nids they might do well. Plus it gives Nids more options than monobuilds via allies.

Referring to the OP here--I'd love to see the Genestealer Cult.

I mean, I've heard of it. I've never actually seen it, but I've heard of it.

This was exactly my own thoughts when the Cult rumors first started... As a stand alone it'll be god awful, except at much lower pts values such as 750-1000pts and under. However, it would give Tyranids a HUGE boost by finally letting them in on the allies, (most importantly the Battle Bros), love that pretty much everyone else gets.

Plus it could allow for a much longed for, and highly themed unit(s) of allied Guardsmen'esque demi humans, as well as expand on a secondary Psychic lore of the Tyranids as a whole.

There is a couple things that MIGHT make a Genestealer Cult work. The combination of decent assault units (Genestealers), Hordes of bullet catchers, horde-style suppressive fire, and access to fast and cheap transports (preferably with the assault vehicle rules) would make them competitive.

I could imagine 6 units of 12 genestealers in Limos (each with a Broodlord, plus a couple more "hidden" units all hitting enemy lines simultaneously. Even if 4 of the limos got toasted, that's still plenty of genestealers in close combat.

Then follow that up with a marching Horde of cultists with some eviserators accompanied by a Genestealer Patriarch. Support it all with some kind of high-dakka limo variant for heavy support.

All you'd need for this army is the Cult limo, probably a Patriarch model (if the Broodlord couldn't work), and a cultist upgrade pack for either the Chaos Cultists or Imperial Guard.

Because they always post whatever comes around rather than filtering out the crap.

Because they are more concerned with ad click revenue than good journalism.
