http://news.yahoo.com/officer-killed-1-stabbed-death-during-domestic-dispute-091150747.html#
Suspect stabbed the two woman trying to defend suspects wife during a domestic dispute, officer shows up and suspect takes officers gun away somehow and kills him. Ironically the suspect and the officer were cousins.
The really bad part about this is that this is the 2nd Police fatality for the state in 4 days and the 5th in four months.

If you're going to start a new thread every time a police officer gets killed, we're going to have a new thread (by 2014 stats) every 2.89 days. I posit to you that this is unnecessary.

But it is ok for people to post a new topic every single time a black man is killed by the police? The relevancy is that this is the 5th officer killed this year in Louisiana, from 2012-2014 their were 3 deaths, and its only August.
Why are so many incidents happening now? Automatically Appended Next Post: Ouze wrote:If you're going to start a new thread every time a police officer gets killed, we're going to have a new thread (by 2014 stats) every 2.89 days. I posit to you that this is unnecessary.
And sorry, that number is killed, not murdered.

Perhaps the officer hesitated because the suspect was a cousin, perhaps its an effect from the social media focus on the police when they screw up at all making them hesitate to use lethal force when it's actually required.

I would think the fact that it's his cousin would be more important. At the very least it would be to me.

So it's okay to get a new thread about every police violence victim yet it's not okay to post about policer officers that get killed?
Is that still double or already quadruple standards?

I'm sure you will be able to find some examples where someone started a second thread instead of posting in the existing one, but we have actually been really good at adding new cases to existing threads that follow the same theme.
When new "killed by police" cases have come out and we already have an active "killed by police" thread going on, the new case usually gets added to the existing thread.
When a separate "county clerk won't marry gay folks" suit got settled, it got added to the other "county clerk won't marry gay folks" thread even though they were two instances.
The Politics Thread is a great example of keeping from having multiple threads.
So it seems that DakkaDakka is able to combine separate stories with a similar theme into a single thread.

Statistically 1-2 deaths a year to 5 deaths in an individual year is not significant.

Good point, but the fact remains that many US police deaths on the job are from having their gun taken away and used against them. It's probably a large part of the police shooting issues too - many officers are so concerned about this that they respond to any suspicious move not just by pulling their gun and shouting "STOP" but by actually shooting.
Personally I don't really know any of my cousins that well, but I'm also not a violent person so I'd hesitate to hurt a stranger too.

Well, although there are no exact numbers available, police have killed on average 2 people a day just during the first 5 months of this year. Clearly there has not been a new thread every 12 hours for every police violence victim. You should stop making up stories in your head that you like better than what the reality is.

Everyone down there is related. As the joke goes homicide detectives in Louisiana have the toughest job on earth as there's no dental records and thanks to inbreeding the DNA is all the same.

I agree, a rolling thread for this or the opposite (police brutality) is what should be done. And I agree it does feel like police deaths in the line of duty are increased. But the last two years have actually been lower years for them. As well as this year is tracking to be lower year too.
The media is the real issue here. We see what ever they want us to see, and that is what we think is important.

So every agrees when a individual is killed by LEO it can be rolled up under a previous same type of thread
Edit
Hear about the wrong address the cops went to in Atlanta? Home Owner wounded (treated and release), owner dog dead, and cop critical (shot by his/her buddy)
They enter the house via unlock backdoor when no one responded inside.

Its nog like, when a cop dies, investigation and truth need to be dug up. There is no blue wall of silence trying to tell us nothing happened

When the department is on the news less than 12 hours after the attack giving a press conference telling everyone that they already made up their mind before investigating anything it makes it seem like they make their decision about guilt and motive just as fast regardless of the officer pulling the trigger or getting hit by the bullet.
