Apologies if this has been covered but Foundry has made some previously unreleased RT models available.

http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/our-ranges/ex-citadel/unreleased-rogue-trader-period-miniatures-1987/

Recently released just in time for the Oldhammer Bring Out Your Lead 2015 event held here at Foundry. They come with integral solid bases similar to the ones on all our other models.

We believe that these newly discovered items are the almost mystically rare deathcasts of the elite EMPIRICAL ABSOLUTION and LIQUIDATION SQUAD. We estimate their value as somewhere in the region of an ENTIRE GALACTIC EMPIRE, probably with a couple of lost mythical lands thrown in.

The Empirical Abs etc. demanded absolute and immediate unthinking obedience to the Empiricator [BLESS HIS NAME!] and not only from the inhabitants of Known Space, but also from the entire population of the Multiverse.

Indeed: after a boozy afternoon of high stake rune casting and seven episodes of the most sacred tapes of STARTREK, the EALS (as they liked to be known) took to speculating as to what their ultimate rewards would be for their lifetimes of ceaseless holy work:

At this point the Empiricator [BLESS HIS NAME!] got a whiff of what was going on. He sighed heavily, made a few passes in the air, clicked his heels together twice, shouted SHAZAM! And he had obliterated the foolish boozy EALS. All that was found was a neat pile of bleached skulls. Each bore the word HUBRIS and each had a tiny lead ceremonial Manikin perched there on its dome.

3 early Arbites/Inquisition types, an astronaut and a scribe. All for $22.50!

So, ok, some of them clearly have Bolters. How is this legal exactly?

They're Bryan Ansell's property I guess. I think he ported over allot of stuff to Foundry back when he owned GW.

Foundry still make plenty of old GW models. Mostly late 1980's fantasy/medieval ranges and dragons.

Check out the early cannons they sell as well, most are GW ones from the Fantasy Bretonnian and Dwarf ranges from about '86. It makes me laugh when people of low moral fibre sell them on eBay as OOP models.

Actually, there was a bit of an uproar from the "resellers" when Foundry announced they were opening up their archives. They've started producing a lot of stuff that was currently very rare. I remember some grumbling on the CCM group when it was announced of how "My collections are now valueless" and "how am I supposed to sell these on now? I paid more than the retail price expecting to make a profit!". It warmed the heart

I don't know arrangement Foundry has with GW but they openly sell a whole range of Ex-GW stuff.

http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/our-ranges/ex-citadel

They even talk a bit about the background.

http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/about/

Besides I really doubt that the concept of 'bolters' is trademarkable/copyrightable, maybe if they used a GW bit and recast it, but even then it would be stretch.

Anyway tip of the hat to the Sho3box blog for the info

I'm now $50 poorer and 10 RT figures richer.

That astronaut is known as the 8ball trooper. Why? Well, if you thumb through the Rogue Trader book, you'll see this photo:

This is exciting! Love the retro GW aesthetic, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what comes from this.

Heh, sounds like when Hasbro released a retail Thundercracker in the Classics Starscream mold which "instantly made Botcon Thundercracker worthless".

To answer the question of legality; they own the molds and production rights.

I kind of figured if there was an issue GW would do something, I mean the two companies share personnel and are literally across town from each other.

It's not like GW wouldn't know.

Dare we hope for more unreleased or oop models?

Probably not but you never know.

Nice to see some models 'back' (kind of) - they aren't that interesting for me though (they should release the big Tyranid from the RT book). Wouldn't have recognized the astronaut as the '8 ball trooper', thanks zedmeister. The one on the left is pictured on page 11 posing with some power-armoured dudes.

For the Genestealer shown in the RT rulebook there was at least one miniature being made as discovered by the Eldritch Epistles blog:

Not sure if this good enough for production

A release of this AdMech would be cool though

Also these unreleased HeroQuest characters and this Wizards of Morcar miniature are great

Maybe they will be released someday

Here's a thought, anyone know if there's a good address where we can request MOAR!!!one!!!?

Obviously buying this is a pretty clear messages but maybe being explicit would help.

In the best of all worlds they'd get the rights to rerelease all of the old RT metals but we know that ain't happening.

The magic word in this case is "unreleased".

Yes, they do sell a lot of historical models that Citadel used to actually sell, but those are pretty generic, and don't really have a "warhammer" feel to them.

These ex-RT minis, though, are different. I think they're selling these because Citadel never did (the two with pointy helmets are quite obviously Judge Dredd minis quickly repurposed to Rogue Trader by sculpting over the iconic heads, shoulder pads and weapons when GW's licence ended. I don't think we'll ever see Foundry selling old miniatures from GW's own setting that GW/Citadel used to sell, or anything that was commissioned after Bryan Ansell left the company.

Annoyingly, I only like the Administratum clerk on the end; I don't want to buy the pack then chuck away the other four.

Arbites and Imperial Guardsmen looks very different to the RT Imperial Army. And Arbites was once wearing weaker armor than what they do now. Also proposed guardsmen designs wears astronautic outfit. It was the presence of Aliens (movie) that changed the generic guardsmen design to what they're now.
