Imperial Recruit in Training

Hi guys!
I've just joined the site and have a project that I need some help with.
Basically I'm in the process of writing my own Warhammer 40K codex loosely based on the modern British army and other nation. To go with this codex I am also raising an army and this is where I need help.
While I have the infantry side sorted with a preferred 28mm supplier, I am rather stuck when it comes to suitable vehicles.
I'm ideally aiming for 1:48 or 1:56 scale vehicles here and preferably modern (cold war- modern day) vehicles.
What I need are vehicle ideas for the following roles: (in brackets you will see roughly an imperial guard equivalent to give you an idea)
Light recon vehicle (Scout/ armored Sentinel)
light armored personnel carrier. (Chimera)
Main battle tank (Leman Russ)
Self propelled artillery (basilisk)
anti aircraft tank (hydra)
Aerial transport (Valkyrie)
Aerial gunship (Vulture)
fighter bomber (thunderbolt)
This army is a long standing work in progress, the codex inst even finished yet. so any ideas would be appreciated.
many thanks for suggestions

Main battle tank? I use 1/56 Churchill VII's from Warlord Games Bolt Action range.
Light scout vehicle? Same company, same range.
AA vehicle? Guess what.....
SPG? I got me a Warlords Games model

Those models are freakin' tiny compared to the land ships of the Imperial Guard. I'd go with converted 1/48 WWII british tanks.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts

1/48 scale tiks is a good start.
Try a Cromwell tank. It might be little longer, little bit thinner and lower, but it should be close to Leman Russ.
Or a Centurion if you like...

They are not too bad actually and they actually look like they could move without shaking themselves apart (suspension=lostech).

Go out here for pics and listings of all the vehicles (and other gear) currently in use by the British army. No idea if any or all area available in 1/48. Don't know of any companies that do 1/56 scale full military lines. Modern kits are also less common than WWII military kits.

Look at Forge World's Elysian Drop Troopers before going all crazy-go-nuts and writing your own homebrew codex... at least Elysians are table legal at most FLGSes.

Which is all well and good, but the OP was looking for *modern* equipment and not WW2.

Depending on who you're talking to and how much of a military history buff they are, the term "Modern" might be inclusive of World War 2. In those circles, the most common use of the term Modern is to cover the period of 1945-2000, with Ultramodern being used to refer to everything since.

Durn it all, don't make me learn something! Hadn't heard that distinction before.
He certainly didn't want WW2, though, as his post said: " preferably modern (cold war- modern day) vehicles." I guess my link would fit under the 'ultramodern' classification, but fit the request made still.
