Hi hello,

So I have a lot of nids here that want painting, and I want to be able to name them.

They will effectively look like this, albeit with potentially red instead of blue skin, and different coloured talons; http://imgur.com/a/yVrcP

This hive fleet will be the colour of all of my tyranids, including vs BA in space hulk, vs BA in deathstorm, vs UM in Battle for Macragge - as well as potentially making an appearance in whatever happens with MEDGE

I've no interest in dead fleets like behemoth/leviathan/kraken, and want something relatively unique, merely so I don't refer to it as Hive fleet Hydra and have someone point out that they should be green (or whatever)

Poll is up, but please offer your thoughts as well.

There is not this idea.

Hive Fleet Arachne - Classic mythology's always nice.

Hive Fleet Jaculus - "A winged serpent of four legs of medieval Europe. It would hide in tall trees and shoot out at victims biting them in the neck." Sounds rather tyranid-esque.

Perhaps "Hive Fleet Jormungandr" would work. It should be the name of some large mythical creature of some sort.
Other suggestions:
"Hive Fleet Balrog"-goes with the color scheme a little bit, especially if you do more reddish or gray skin.
"Hive Fleet Tiamat"-like Jormungandr above, it is actually both the name of a mythical creature (Norse mythology?) and the name of a Zerg brood (from StarCraft).
"Hive Fleet Shai-hulud"-Just make sure you have some Trygons or other burrowing creatures!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

One idea is that a HIvefleet name, being named by the Imperium, might sound like a mortal danger of a biological nature, as exemplified by IP names such as Hivefleet Kraken, Hivefleet Behemoth, and Hivefleet Leviathan. I'd recommend looking up names of big mean monsters in mythologies that you admire, and draw inspiration from there.

Hive Fleet Jormundandr is already a canon Hive Fleet I believe.

You could even f--k around with the name, like Hivefleet Ktulu, Ctulu, Thulu, etc...

I think it's cool, anyways. Take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I certainly didn't.

It's a good name.

Unless it has another, entirely different meaning than the one I looked up.

So all of the Hive Fleets are named after some sort of mythical beast. Kraken, Leviathan, and Behemoth. All of these were giant things that are symbols of doom and destruction. Leviathan and Behemoth are of Biblical origins (the book of Job), Kraken is a Norse sea monster. How about Hive Fleet Aphophis?

I voted Tarrasque for obvious reasons, but if I wanted to submit a unique name, I'd go with "The Devourate", it's a mix of devour and ate, which is fun, and gives it a very unique cult like name. It would be the ministrate of devouring D:

I'll pluck you like a flower.

Hive Fleet Nidhoggr. Nidhoggr being the serpent that gnaws at the roots of the world in Norse mythology.

It should at least be named after a mythical creature, as that is the theme for all Hive Fleets.

Hive Fleet Dagon appears in one of the FFG 40K RPGs.... I want to say it's Only War, but could be mistaken.

Deathwatch: The Jericho Reach.

It's a Behemoth splinter fleet, known for its toxic biomorphs, a particularly nasty Hive Tyrant that kept respawning and hunting the Deathwatch killteams, and at one point an enormous deployment of Harpies.

Given that that setting was 200+ years ago, you would have absolute freedom with where to go with that fleet if you did decide to carry the story on

Perhaps "Hive Fleet Kaiju" would work. Or "Hive Fleet Godzilla", or "Hive Fleet Ghidorah", or "Hive Fleet Gamera". Only slightly joking, and the first one (Kaiju) is not a joke.

Not a bad name by itself but in case one is not running a list with big bugs and has a lot of gaunts it's a bit silly.
