Been thinking of making myself a Squiggoth (ya dino toys ) and im curious if its decent or just a terrible waste of points. Ive looked at the Big Squiggoth and the only thing that bugs me is the WS 2. Just, why??Other than that how are Squiggoths?

Would pretty much be 2 shotted by any D-weapon, and only has like, 4 wounds, right?
Yeah, not that good. I tied my friend's up with Hormagaunts for the whole game.

Big squiggoths summary
-Horrible in close combat.
-Worthless shooting.
-Slowest transport ever.
-Confusing rules.
-With upgrades as expensive as a landraider.
There are better deals.. Automatically Appended Next Post: Gargantuan squiggoth.
I'm not sure about that one, its actually a good transport but it is overcosted if you compare it with the newer lord of war gargantuans.

I think everything is overcosted when compared to those

Gargantuan squiggoth is better than the normal one, but still horrible.
Do not take in competitive lists.
It is good enough for casual or fluffy games though.

The Gargantuan Squiggoth.. Last time I saw one used it commited suircide.. It went melee against a Fellblade, and killed it, Causing the biggest explosion, that scatterd onto the Squiggoth, Caused max damage, And killed the Squiggoth aswell.. Thats the last time I saw one used.. xD

I had no intention of playing Orks competitively anyway
I seem to recall seeing a Squiggoth for like 50 points or something nuts
Here it is:
Is this an actual thing or did someone make this up? Cuz if this is a thing im all over this.

Despite what the Internet says, I have found both big squiggoths and a gargantuan squiggoth to be very effective in my lists.
Trends I see:
Great slab of meat to put in cover and camp objectives.
Great beat stick backfield unit to guard my artillery against pesky drop pods
Gargantuan squiggoth is wonderful, even though he gets focused he can often take it and dish out a ton of punishment with his guns. I also like defensively spewing 20 boys out of him to tie up unfavorable combats...like the cunning squid...except more choppy...
I also like giving my opponents difficult choices, sure you can take pot shots at my gargantuan but then you get a manz missile. What's that? Focused my nobs? This beast moves 12 inches a turn and is already in your face.

I use the big squig to stomp flat enemy horde units. If they are expecting horde themselves, they don't buy poison. The squig is toughness 7 so it ignores str3, meaning my boys don't have to waste time plowing through other chaff units.
Remember, with orks you want your elite units hitting their basic units, and your basic units hitting their elites. Send meganobs and big squig at tactical squads or guard platoons, send the boys after terminators and canoptic wraiths.

This explains the confusion. Those rules where great I used lots of squiggoths those where the most actual rules. Lots of fun . sadly Imperial Armour Apocalypse II "buffed" them and increased their points by 130 points for a naked one. A squiggoth with upgrades and weapons is now really costy. Automatically Appended Next Post: I know owning non imperial " FW models" sucks, they change the rules even more drasticly then GW does.

It did get a lot of stuff:
1. T7 with W6, lost one attack and one Strength though
2. It generates D3+1 HoW attacks
3. After it loses a wound it gets Supa Rampage (ie an extra 1d6 attacks)
4. it can transport 15 models now
5. its Fearless as long as an oOrk is within 3"
6. For 15 points you get to roll on the Combat Drugs chart, which is pretty much all good.
Now is it still overcosted? Ya id say by about 50-60 points. Is it better? Definitely.
Personally ill probably use each one as a different Squiggoth, calling the ones from Apocalypse Battle Squiggoths.

Those upgrades sure look great and I would have loved them on allmost any other model but they gave then to a squiggoth and increased its price by allmost 400% :S
You used to pay 50 points for a slow but safe transport.
Now you pay a allmost as much as a landraider for it (or 2 battle wagons).
Lets look at what it really does for its point cost .
Transport: Its sturdier, but still way to slow to actually transport anything. And it isn't really that sturdy to walk into a gunline and survive to reach the other side.
Mobile bunker, with fearless aura: It pretty good at this, and fearless is something orks can use with the new mob rule.
Close combat monster: Nope he is still bad at it.
Shooty monster: nope not even close.
So you pay ~200 points for a a mobile bunker with a fearless aura, thats bad really bad :\

squadrons...
Are you mad 3 of these beasts would cost 600 points
And they are still just as slow as any normal ork :\

The newer IA rules always overrule the older ones...
The same happened to the lifta wagon, that went from auto include to something that never hits anything any more.

You know, i may do this. I might just go get a bunch of Triceratops toys and field them as a Sguiggoth Squadron and see how they run. Also might just bump them to WS 4, because squigs are WS 4 and i have never understood why a Squiggoth has that low of a WS. oldzoggy wrote:The newer IA rules always overrule the older ones... Ws3 is still good, it hits everything up to ws7 at 4+. What it really shows is that it isn't very hard to HIT in melee. Weapon skill is an offensive and defensive stat. It's offense isn't really upset by the change, but defense is. If it was weapons skill 4 it would be able to deflect attacks as well as a striking scorpion, do you really think big guy here is that skilled?

It's WS2, not WS3.
And yes, I would imagine that a giant monster who's instinctively driven to kill things in melee would at least have a better WS than a Riptide...

This right here. I could accept WS 3 as thats what a Carnifex is IIRC, but 2? Im pretty sure that thing is better at fighting than a Grot. Also like i said Squigs historically have had WS 4

If not playing comp write some rules your self. be fair and im sure most people will let you play them, if you put effort into your model id be happy to play against models with home brew rules
