When Mantic appeared I asked this question so I thought I'd ask it again!
Here it is(hope you like it.If you don't,I do.So there!)
Philosophical...
With this Warpath kickstarter do you think that Warpath are now back on track(I think they lost their way for a while)to seriously contend with GW and 40k? Consider how their Kings of War is competing now, will Warpath herald in (in the long term) the end times of 40k?

Short answer: no
Longer answer: if they are able to create a ruleset that is highly playable, and enough models that people want to buy to actually play the game, they could build some steam. Then, they would need a "Minor Powers" style book like KoW has, with proxy lists for all the main 40k armies.
Even then, probably not. Even after this kickstarter, Warpath will have fewer plastic kits than a mid range 40k army like Tyranids or IG. When you really look at it, the breadth and depth of 40k models is stunning. that's simply too much for an outsider to compete with unless they do everything exactly right. The only game that came close is Warmahordes.

Probably not, if GW horribly botches 8th ed (whenever that happens) they may. At the very least they will make a ton of money from people who refuse to pay GWs prices (ie me )

Well I am looking forward to play my space dwarfs in a mass battle game. The main thing that makes players blood boil at my location is the time it takes to play a game of 40k. even a 2k game takes close to 4 hours. If we can play at that size or larger in 2-3 hours then I think we'll have more people play warpath than 40k. But that will be a while for the KS to go through.

I think of all the contenders Warpath has the biggest chance. At least that firefight one. KoW dethroning Fantasy gives them a certain kudos that the other pretenders currently lack, and the greatest strength of 40k (its vast model range) is hijacked to become a strength of Warpath by including equivalent factions in the same manner as KoW
Here at least, I've watched the 40k tournament scene evaporate over the last year or so. Tournies of 50-100 people have dropped a *lot* - one major tournament had three entries, several have been canceled. While not the same story across all gaming locations, its certainly an example of the strong downwards trend in 40k at the expense of other games. 40k is a juggernaut, but if Fantasy can die then 40k can die too, and my money is on Warpath as the kingslayer
Warpath has caught the interest of a lot of ex-40k gamers here, the same group that spearheaded KoW and made it a thing. I know I'll be doing my best to push it, because I love my Orks but god damn I hate the ruleset they come from

I have not seen the migration of WH40K players to Warpath like I have seen with WHFB to KoW.
Mostly, I have just seen 40K players quitting, and not replacing 40K with anything at all. :(
Maybe it is because WP just is not as close to a 1:1 replacement - folks aren't able to just port their armies over and play them as is. (Orks to Marauders, maybe - but they really do not play at all the same in Deadzone, at least.)

Build it and they will come... But I have to agree with Grump most people I have seen drop 40k just quit gaming in general. A few try out warmachine but I have ran into more people who say they use to play 40k and now don't game at all. Guess they where burned once and don't want to be burned again.

Kings of War has rightfully dethroned Warhammer Fantasy, but actually watch people play in the stores and on YouTube and they are still mostly using Warhammer Fantasy miniatures. There is was a healthy overlap in factions between games. You start playing KoW with your existing models and then when the addiction takes hold you start buying Mantic models.
Warpath has gone out of their way to do factions not present in 40K, with the possible Enforcer/Space Marine overlap, if you willing to ignore/convert the weapons.
KoW is great, because Fantasy units fight in mobs, and are easily reduced to a single large base per unit.
Deadzone is great shooting it out as individuals, but too much to manage for large scale battles.
Warpath is still undergoing labor pains trying to have abstracted units represented with individual models but functioning as abstracted units. It currently looks like the deformed offspring of KoW and 40K that ended with some of the worst features of each parent.
That being said, they still have time to pull a rabbit out the hat and hammer Warpath into a worthy successor before the KS is over. It's just not there yet.

I think its because Warpath doesn't really exist right now. I know theres an obscure first edition, but I can't even find it.
Even my group hasn't made the change, they've just had their 40k in storage for years and years collecting dust. When Warpath drops thats when it will start to pick up
Warpath has gone out of their way to do factions not present in 40K, with the possible Enforcer/Space Marine overlap, if you willing to ignore/convert the weapons.
Its such a pity, because to do this is to ignore a gigantic potential market. Maybe its because they expect people to just use their 40k models forever, who knows what the logic is but it honestly feels like they're having a GW moment right there.

I feel they did it to avoid people using their 40K models. There are nothing comparable to Veermyn (Space Rats), Forge Fathers (Space Dwarfs), Plague, and Alien Rebel models in 40K to use.
Earlier, I did forget about a few:
40K Orks would make great marauders I guess.
Asterians are kind of an Eldar equivalent, but with a different aesthetic.
Corporation can be represented by Astra Militarum
The vehicles in this Kickstarter will only serve to widen the gap with what overlaps between games.

The short answer is no. And Ronnie is well aware just how unrealistic it is to think they can directly take on the multi million pound behemoth that 40K is at this time.
It might be a 40K alternative, but it's not going to challenge it any time soon.

I think they did it because they want to have their own IP. All Tolkeinesque fantasy worlds are pretty much the same, but sci-fi doesn't have to be.

Which is why the Marauders are getting twilight kinned I believe. Make them as much not 40k orks as possible.

So the Marauders are all going to be wearing suits and ties - certified as public accountants?
Marauders and Orks really don't need to look that different - their attitudes are very dissimilar already, with the Marauders being professionals and the Orks being nothing more than a ravening horde. (I will admit to that being a bit self-serving - I like the Marauders' attitudes better, but I also really like some of the third party Ork miniatures out there - and want to be able to field Kromlech figures in the Marauder army.)
The Auld Grump - who likes a little steampunk in his orks....

I agree with you.
My point was just that KoW had the "you can use the miniatures you already have" bonus going for it, and Warpath does not.

40k still has a massive amount of brand loyalty, FF/WP could be the best ruleset ever written and I doubt it would make a dent on 40k.
It needs to be good enough to stand on it's own, but I don't see it even getting into 40k's throne room for a long time. (Actually the idea of 40k being a desiccated husk on a throne that still technically rules the roost seems somehow fitting).

Warpath won't be a 40k challenger.
Until Age of the Emperor happens, that is Then 40k doesn't exist anymore except in fan versions, and a lot of sullen and angry people are left sitting around thinking "I guess I could maybe give Warpath or Gates of Antares a go, even though they'll suck because they aren't 40k", or "Maybe I should just change things up completely, and try a 10mm scale game like Dropzone Commander, Halo ground battles or Firestorm Planetfall, they have giant robits in them way cheaper right?", or "I'm just gonna buy 10 soldiers and play Infinity/Malifaux/Afterlife/ any number of new sci fi skirmish games rolling out at the moment, feth everything and everyone with giant army games, never again", or "I'm 40 years old, time to trade the Space Marines and metal t shirt and trenchcoat in for a nice button up shirt and Wellington's allied army at the siege of Badajoz"

Just at a guess, they're sticking with the backstory as of Deadzone, and the cool Deadzone aesthetic, and trying to figure out how to fit in the old grunts and trikes/quads (and all the people who bought them), which really aren't the new aesthetic?

Those quads could work perfectly well with a crew member update, couldn't they? And the grunts would basically need an aesthetic update which will end up looking nothing alike but it's not as of marauders will suddenly swear off the general concept of basic line infantry. It shouldn't be too hard to do an update and nee inclusive about it.

Mantic should release a whole lot of free rules for folks to use their 40k armies in warpath, similar to what they're doing with KoW.
Right now they're the dog, and they're using their nimbless to steal food from the old fat dog. They need to keep leveraging that if they ever want to really beat GW.

+1
They make army lists for existing 40k armies and they will be golden. I am sad to see Warlord Games not really do this too well with their Gates of Antares. No Matter how I spin it, GW still makes some of the best looking miniatures. All these new plastic Sci-fi minis look more and more ridiculous as they add new games.

I might do it myself for lulz, depending on what's going on at the time.
