There isn't a rule about it, but that is a TFG move, especially if you just plop it down on a pick up game. 1500+ games really should be where the Superheavies and Gargantuans live. Anything lower and an unprepared opponent just won't have a chance there.
If you yourself are calling it 'superheavy trolls' then you should know better. Don't go to a game with the intention of being TFG.

That Fething Guy. A prick. Jerk. General piece of dookie that most people want to avoid because of how they act in a game that is meant to be fun for all involved.

If it's a once in a while thing just for the fun of it, I don't really see a problem with it, but you should be willing to play something else if it's just killing the mood for other players.
If I was informed there would be a 750pt game where my opponent had an IK unit, I'd be up for it at least once to see how it goes. Though if I just showed up and there it was, I wouldn't exactly say now, but I could understand having negative feelings if I expected a more standard game that night.

i'd play against it at 1500, but i'd also expect to know beforehand and wouldn't feel bad about list tailoring, above that i'll be able to take it into account and still have a fun fluffy army but if you start bringing an Lance formation i'd pick my models back up and apologise for wasting the time

Quoted and Exalted for truth.
Also, this only applies to one Imperial Knight. If you plan on bringing two, don't do it at anything less than 1750 points. Unless you plan on going to a tournament (and losing badly), do not take an army composed only of Imperial Knights. People will not like you.

Personally, unless a Lord of War is an Infantry model, I don't think the Lord of War slot should be available until 1500 pts. 750 pts is way too low to be using a Lord of War. Your opponent will have an extremely difficult, if not impossible time dealing with it.

Seriously, you just have to glance my IK's side armor 12 for a total of 6 times. These things are so easy to kill. I dont see how people think I am tfg when IK are so much easier to kill than WKs.
So many freaking times people penetrate the armor, I failed the invul or they made me choose the other side. They roll a 7 (d6+ap1 or ap2) and when they go to roll the d3 they get 5s or 6s so easy because the pick up the same weighted dice and spin it horizontally and get a 6 to remove 4hp.
I am so tired of this dice cheat I am going to train myself to cheat at dice. So then I can call them out on it and roll 6s on command to show that they manipulate the dice using the same hand techniques.

I think it's fair to have 1 knight per 1k, they're not that hard to kill.

Kinda agree, there are much harder to kill cheaper enemies out there. But in saying that if people don't want to play against you because of it, your going to have no fun playing the game. I'd bring a backup list if people get really gakky.
In saying all that I will be bringing a gallant lance at 1000 points but with heads up to the crowd

I really miss the old vindicare assassin with all this IK love. I was fine with them when I took A vindicare. a Inq. and a few space monkeys.
But nooo they had to change him to protect the knights. Same with necron doom scythe use to just wreck them

I have seen them in 500pts games and I dont think anyone plays 350pts, so 500pts is probably the limit, unless some house rules are used. Like for example we had an escalation league that started at,how many points you have, which for most people was 1-2 squads and an HQ, and for the knight player it was a 2 Knights.

1 knight at 1250+ pts.
2 knights at 1850+ pts.
Never more than 2 knights.
1 WK at 1850+ pts.
2 WK at 2500+ pts.
Never more than 2 WK.
This is my lowest limit. I find no reason to play a game in any other situation.
