Nowt wrong with the mummies, Gits'. They look great.

You could just give one of the mummies a deathmask and call it the squad leader. Then just run it as a "normal" mummy, no need for another HQ or anything rules-wise.

Ooh, classic!

And with the last detachment you have an HQ slot available (self allying isn't usually allowed anyway so it may as well be a full detachment, since the 10 nurgling bases can be two troop choices).

I'd be partial to a monster instead of another character, but it would have to be a classic, too.

Probably the way they are packaged in the sarcophagus...

@Gir: No. And that's one of the very few monsters that I wouldn't quibble about adding. Question is how to do it without forcing it?

Mummies look awesome Git! Headless Horseman would be cool Cybernetic Horse? Like a LotR Nazgul...! I just cannot wait to see Frankenstein's creation!

The best fit is probably a Fiend of Slaanesh, so not actually a character, but a swift horse-like model:

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Chaos-Daemons-Fiend-of-Slaanesh-1-40K

Ral Partha have one that's pretty good:

Available at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Ral-Partha-01-211-Headless-Horseman/dp/B00OZAGT24

My only quibble is that this model isn't really connected to the Mummies - but it could work! And is very iconic. Still wishing for another big beastie but at least in game terms this wouldn't technically be a character

Another alternative is to simply re-align the groupings, and have Frankenstein's monster lead the mummies (he does have the pose!) and the Headless Horsemen lead the Zombies.

Depending on how you define “classic” and “horror” you could add a war of the worlds style tripod walker. Or take a page from the 50’s atomic horror and add something like a giant ant or spider. Mechanically could count as a soul grinder or defiler.

But while classic horror, they are not very halloween horror. And definitely not associated with mummies. If you wanted a HQ to lead the mummies, you could go with an evil high priest type.

Classic Egyptian has always been a crazy High Priest for Mummies. I think a Soulgrinder would make for an awesome Headless Horseman.... O.o! Wouldn't be classic or normal but would be very cool!

Hmmm... perhaps go to the Chaos Marine dex instead. Chaos lord on a bike or jugger?

I'm not too cranked up about whether he pairs with the mummies or not. Having something else in the army that wasn't either an HQ or garbage troops would be nice though.

Headless Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut because Khorne doesn't care where the skull comes from

He could lead a unit of skeletons without skulls(bloodletters)

Hmm, the bike could be a better fit... but the rider is still off.

Yeah, I think this army needs another monster - Halloween doesn't have quite the same attraction for me so I haven't been able to think of anything, but come on, there must be another good monster to be made! Your Frankenstein's monster is a great example - you went with a cool conversion of a model that makes it fit.

Mummies could either have a 'hot mummy pharaoh queen/priestess' leader, or maybe you could do a sphinx.

I think the problem with having a unit of mummies is that the Mummy was a singular character of horror- almost like the first Slasher-gore monster, precursor to Jason or Freddy. Frankenstein's Monster had his Bride, Dracula had his 'children', Wolfman was infectious, and zombies come in Hordes, but it was always "THE Mummy".

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I agree Anvildude... Just couldn't figure out how to do one and make it impressive enough.

As some have suggested, the natural leader for the mummies is an Egyptian priest... but then I'm faced with the same issue, not really a very impressive figure.

My wife was enthusiastic about a headless horseman... the problem (whether it's a lord on bike or jugger) is how to do the figure. Are there some really impressive/scary horses made for one of the WHF armies?

There are some of the nurgle/khorne chaos lords for warriors of chaos for fantasy, I don't know how chaos-y you're willing to go for this though.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

That's perfect, Theophony! And he's armored enough to look just like a CSM lord . That horse is impressive enough that you could go with bike or juggernaut - jugger might even be the better fit in this case (bigger base too).

You can kick the daemon prince over to the second chaos daemon detachment to make room for him.

This is also one of the huge benefits (although there are obviously other drawbacks) to GW moving to resin - you can much more easily remove the head! This has come up a few times for me and certain models are just a lifesaver in the material (Hellcannon, looking at you!).

Those flamers, on the other hand, could have easily stayed metal... but it's nice that there are hobbying benefits from the change in some cases.

The headless horseman would fit perfectly with the mummies because he could be Tzeentch, all is dust.

Solves everything and the Archaon model would be perfect add a few egyption/tzeentch bits and you are sorted.

Goblins (nurglings) are complete. Enough here for two units of 5 or 1 full unit of 9 (nine??).

Here's the army as it stands. WYSIWYG it's just over 1000 pts.

Bats are next and are built. May get some painting done tonight but I'm recovering from a long weekend of camping... Read that as staying up late drinking adult beverages and getting up way too early in the morning to start over the next day. Think I'll take a nap. As you can see from the pic below, I'm short one of the Warhammer Quest giant bats. Have that on order from e-bay. OH, and the headless horseman is on order too. That won't come in until Oct. 22-23rd, so I'd better get moving between now and then. Really hoping to finish the bats tomorrow to keep myself on-schedule.
