So....after seeing some new guys playing infinity at my local club, I decided to dust off my haqqislam army, thing is, what's changed?
I see that 3rd is out now, but what are the major changes, has haqqislam changed that much? Are hassassin Fiday still monsters?

You need to download the N3 PDF. While they core Order/ARO still works basically the same way. The whole system has been reworked. Like crit conceal each other out, instead of highest crit winning. Camo no longer gets a free shot, mods cap at 12, MA completely reworked, hacking is almost a mini game, weapon ranges reworked to give each a role instead of HMG always being the best, just to give a very small hint as the changes.
Plus, soon (?) we will get a new Human Sphere that will combine both the Human Sphere and Campaign book's rules and profiles with the same level of rewrite and more new stuff on top of that in it. Like hacking devices designed to kill other hackers.

Holly poo, I was expecting tweaks, a hacking mini game you say? I like the sound of that, have they got rid of the bloody annoying rule that 1 crit cancels 3 hits?

A few things that used to be "I go, then you get to go if you live" things were removed and replaced with some "same time actions but penalties apply". There's more of the "everything happens at the same time" aspect.
I.E. In 2nd, a camo marker could shoot from camo, and unless the target had Sixth sense or MSV to ignore their camo, the attacker would go first, and if the target survived, then they would get to ARO.
In N3, "surprise shot" is now a skill from camo - and the opponent gets to f2f it with a-3 (which stacks with camo penalties) so it could go down to -9 (TO camo surprise shot).
Fiday are still monsters.
HI all got faster (now they are mostly 4-4 move instead of 4-2 that they used to be). Power armour assisted muscles and all that.
Biggest change was hacking. It got a complete do-over.

No. They did stream-line the FtF process though. Crits cancel Crits, regardless of the number of the dice. Crits Always beat non-crits. Tied dice mean both lose the FtF, since all the silly tie-breakers are gone.
Close Combat got some love too. Hacking is practically a game unto itself these days.
Overall, N3 is superior to N2 in pretty much every way. The rulebook is clearly organized and well written. And well translated too. For once, a third edition is better than the second edition.
The Exrah are gone as a playable race. "Squatted" some might say.

This is not a blanket rule. Not all HI got faster. Bulkier HI like Azra'il and Yan Huo are still 4-2, as are, IIRC, Ariadnan HI.

I've not seen anyone use either of those in my "meta" (as much as I despise that term). Then again, the local meta has pretty much fallen apart from ennui. One local group are selling off their stuff because they don't even play anymore (they despise N3) and how it "nerfed" their armies (not a single combine player amongst them). So I'm back to where it was 4+ years ago, and starting it from scratch again with some helpful not-quite-locals.

Played another game tonight, managed to imob some Japanese tag (can't remember it's name) and focus it to death, viral Sniper nuked the enemy medic straight off the bat and that allowed me to set the pace of the game as my opponent just kept his forces hidden most of the game from fear of being sniped (odd as there were plenty of ways to move about the board, we use tons of terrain), I managed to get to the train thingy and shut that bugger down, winning the mission.
Honourable mention goes to Al djabel, took out a link team of some sort (sorry don't know all the models names), 4 of em bit the dust before I was blown away

Snipers, particularly Viral Snipers, are fantastic psychological threats. When you have an important model hit from across the board in ARO, needing to take two saves and either being failed moves 1W models to Dead, you get cautious. Even better if the opponent doesn't have smoke.
I did the same thing to my friend in a recent game with Tohaa. I stuck a Nikaul on top of a large rock with no cover, which he through was dumb until I pointed out he's a Sapper. When he started seeing the damage a Viral Sniper could do, he started doing everything possible to avoid it.

This might be slightly biased because I'm slightly spoiled by my Nomads-privilege (Interventor and cheap repeater access), but a strong hacker or two, plus a few repeaters can go a long way. That, or get a bigger, scarier tag for yourself.

If you are not going first hide and make him spend more Orders killing your guys.
Minelayer Skill is also great for slowing the TAG down Viral it forces 2 BTS rolls and E/Mauler can be brutal. You have good access to AP Mines (just not on a Minelayer, so can't place before the game starts) so don't be afraid to place one if you know that guy would lose the FtF roll and your close enough.
If it is a Cutter, throw a cheap flamethrower at it so you are only shooting with a -3BS and it loses it camo ability.
As above hacking is a good way to go as Haqqislam you have a higher then normal WIP and a unit with Markers. Shoot the Marker from out of LoF at the TAG and you can hack it pretty safely.
FO also benefits from you WIP and if you do Target you get a +3BS on the TAG.
Coordiinated Orders are you friend use them. the TAG can only ARO to one model, period.
Other then that, what you do for any other target. Try to get them out of cover, in your good range band, while in their bad range band. Stay out of LoF for free shots if possible. Basically you want to stack to odds in you favor as you can.
Good Luck.

You can also go for the order pool
A Fiday, Ragik or Yuan Yuans will efficiently wreak havoc against cheerleaders, leaving the TAG order-starved

A fun TAG counter is the Al'Hawwa Hacker. Position on most likely route of TAG advance (they can infiltrate). Immobilise TAG, then run up to TAG and lay D-Charges on the TAG while it looks on helplessly
If the Al'Hawwa is a pacifist or doesn't want to kill needlessly, he can also then say that he won't detonate the charge as long as the TAG stays immobilised and doesn't try to reset.

Ok played the game, first of all the mine tactic worked a charm, she tried to run her tag right up the most obvious land to blast me, happily I'd mined the area, so (I may be doing this wrong) I passed my wip rolls to place my mines out of my dep zone in that area, this forced her to take another route as she didn't want to go near the camo markers.

Mines do not require any WIP rolls unless you want to place the mine when an enemy is in the trigger area. You can also not deploy the mine outside your deployment zone during deployment. The mine shares deployment rules with the minelayer and if it's not a minelayer you'll have to spend orders dropping them down during regular play.
Otherwise, yeah, just drown the thing in damage rolls. Typically the cheap combi-rifles will be more cost-efficient for killing a TAG. Or try a Kaplan Engineer with Adhesive Launcher. Might not work all the time, but glueing a mighty TAG in place is fun!
When hacking a TAG, remember that they usually have ECM.

That's very true actually, Kaplan are a wonderful TAG hunting team especially as a link team - Adhesive launcher is a lot of fun and the basic Kaplan loadout has a blitzen which is E/CM2.
When immobilised you can either spam weight of fire onto it, or once again use the Kaplan engineer to run and plant a D-charge on it

The first time my nephew tried a TAG he proxied a Raicho which he was saving up for. I had a Gao Rael glue it in ARO, then my Gorgos walked up and punched it to death.
I felt bad, but it was hilarious to see.

Similar event on Friday - a friend was running the Oyuri (sic) and I baited it into range of a Tankhunter adhl and glued it. Then it was all about the question - what's easier to kill, an immobilized TAG or ab engineer?
