Im glad i started with spess muhrins, but i wish i had the patience when i was younger to not destroy the dark eldar army i had in the starter box i got. Damn things were so spindly and hard to glue, but now i find myself wanting a xenos race army as well as my marines. If i hadnt destroyed the DE bits so badly when trying to put them together, they would be more than decoration and terrain bits. I also wish i never wasted my time mixing my own shade of green for a salamanders army. I could never recreate the green and have to repaint my marines

Started off with Chaos in 6th. It went down hill ever since. I sold them all off to a friend and picking up Tau since I had purchased a few models to paint up, and figured I'd just fill them out.

I wish I did Necrons instead of Guard. Less gak to paint and a lot easier to do as well. Plus I would be able to play tournaments without having to dump cash into allies.

I don't regret starting Tau, I just regret that GW ever got round to updating them and turning them into a hate magnet with an undercosted giant mecha which went against previous fluff so much that they had to retcon major battles to make them seem necessary.

Simplest solution that worked for me while I was still married and when I was suffering from a serious illness but wanted to be able to keep modeling and hobbying: Pick which of the two you don't like the most Crimson Fists of BA and start selling them off while you start your space wolves. Use the ebay proceeds to expand your space wolves until you have a whole army. I've built many army projects in the past where once it was build my motivation for them kind of faded, so they went to ebay and generated capital for the next project. I've got 11 armies now, but have built and sold off at least that many again. It is a continuing process for me.

Nope. As much as my CSMs have been destroyed from their old selves, changed often to the point it's sometimes hard to recognize them (I played a heavy sorcerer army when I started playing), I still can't bring myself to leave them. They are everything I want out an army's fluff and more, with each new model impressing me more than the last. Their lords feel legendary and able to beat ANYONE in a duel because Chaos has the Daemon weapons that will rip your soul out.
I've been attracted to other armies before, envying their power, their ludicrously cheap Lords of War (mine costs 888 pts), or the Imperium Super Best Friends ally matrix. But I've never cheated on my first marriage... even if the magic is gone.
I meant that literally. The magic is literally gone. Why did they get rid of my sorcerer squads? I want to cast 8 Doombolts again.

I wish I never bought Chaos Marines or 5 Imperial Knights. I should have hopped on to the Eldar Cheese Band wagon y3ars ago 4 the serpent spam then sell those serpents for jet bikers and Wraith Knights. Then I could be going around starting flame wars like Dman137 by bragging and telling people to learn to play.
Instead I am stuck with a weak Chaos Marine army and an Imperial Knights army no one is will to fight. They think its too op and powerful when its really easy to glance 6 hullpoints off a knight with dman jetbikes scat lasers.

I first got into 40k around 12 years ago and had a hard time sticking to a particular army (in the first year I rotated through 3):
Necrons (1000pts) - started with these guys because they were beginner friendly (durable and not a lot of customization) However, I eventually lost interest with them because of that lack of customization. I ended up selling them - I don't really regret them though as they were a good introduction.
Tau - Once I got the hang of 40k I went out and bought Tau as they fit my playstyle. Back in 2003 they didn't have all the bells and whistles they do now. Over the years they have endured and they are currently my main army. No Regrets
CSM - Thousand sons (1200pts) Now these guys I do regret. They were pretty cool during the 3.5 codex and their theme appealed to 14 yr old me.... but I couldn't paint them for gak and ended up selling them a few years later since they were just collecting dust.
I wasn't really involved in 40k between 2006-2011 but then I jumped back in with the new Grey knight release.
Greyknights (1500pts) - I went paladins/dreads and it was the first army I actually fully painted. I had plans to allie IGDKoK and started painting some of those, but I hated the idea that at the time everyone was playing GK.... I had a long time crush on them but in the end I looked like I was just on the bandwagon. I still have then because of the work I put into them, but I have some regrets...
Currently I'm working on the CSM army I always wish I had - its going to be 1500pts of plague marines which are almost 100% forgeworld since it uses the plaguemarine conversion packs and all heresy mk3 arms, legs, packs, bolters, etc.
Ultimately, if I could go back and redo it all... I would have started with my Tau and as a secondary army either go with GK or SoB so that I could have an old school all metal army (without having to spend $1000+). Then in recent times I still would have gone with nurgle CSM I'm working on since its a really fun hobby project.
Just pray, just keep on praying for the buff, it will come, just remain hopefull, even after god knows how many years, i still got hope that CSM can be brought back and pummel the unbelivers once more XD

Wish I hadn't started chaos space marines, I slowly got tired of the constant skulls and spikes style on everything.. I feel there is more to chaos factions than just that. It all just looks like a disorganised rabble which is not something a warp travel space faring army, no matter how twisted or evil should be like in my opinion.
Thousand sons got tired and one dimensional. Nurgle just doesn't interest me.
IA13 and IA5 2nd edition changed everything and gave me a clear idea of how I wanted my army to play, look and feel (fluff wise), on the tabletop.
Now all my marines, tanks, dreadnoughts, aircraft and cultists are sold on eBay (which I was able to recoup much of the costs from luckily) apart from three unbuilt Deimos vindicators (shameless plug: pm me if you want them for a generous price) and my renegades army is really taking shape.

When I first started with my 6th edition DA, I initially did,a s I hated being shortchanged compared to regular SM. Now, I play Daemons if I want a truly competitive army and my 7th edition DA are fun enough I don't feel underpowered.
Only thing I regret to any extent is starting Grey Knights. Not because of anything they lack on the tabletop but that I can't really create my own custom paint schemes and fluff about MY group of Grey Knights.

That's why I like 1k armies. I've got my grey knights as main, then 1k armies in csm, orks, cult mech, harles, assassins, lotd, inquisition and buying some IG and skitarii at present. Means that I don't get bored of using the same army, and get to buy/paint lots of different models.

Someday when i have the money, time, patience, etc im going to start an Ork army just because every ork player i know has fun with them win or lose.

What is incredibly funny is that I put together a big Tau army when it first came out.
Then I gave the whole thing to a cousin who desperately wanted to play and I thought I would never get around to painting them.
I also had a large Eldar army, even modified Falcons to be Wave Serpents before the model came out... got really good at thorny-vine patterns.
Gave the whole thing to another cousin, other excuse was that I was "sick" of them.
Do they really have enough pieces to build a guardian?.. oh sorry, flashbacks.
Soooo... fast forward to now and I have fully painted chaos that is not ideal to use right now.
Imperial Guard all painted up JUST IN TIME to have a codex where many models I liked are not worth using.
My Black Templar has been a consistent performer, got upset when they took away my Whirlwind for a short time... I got over that now.
Whine, moan... I know.
This is completely against the grain, very odd, but I feel I really missed out, I wish I started with Squats.

When I got into 40k, Necrons had just come out. I almost started them, but something drew me to DA. There were times, especially in 5th and 6th that I wished I had started Necrons. But I always loved my DA, and the emperor rewarded my faith.
The other reason for wanting Necrons, more than power level, was I like their look (almost as much as DA). The biggest thing was how fast and easy they were to paint. I'm a painfully slow painter. When about 80% of my DA were wiped out in a hot water heater bursting, I was tempted to start Necrons again. But I reinvested in my DA, and they are coming along nicely.
If/when I "finish" my DA, I'll start Necrons.

Yes ORKS! No one has ever played orks and regretted their purchase... that I have met in RL
I've been playing 40k since the mid 90s. If you think you're into the hobby for the long hall don't EVER sell an army. I've seen too many people regret that one... way more than buyers remorse.
For example, I bought a late 4th ed all bike army.... wow, they're just got better every edition, every white scar/dark angel release since.

Thinking back over how many times have changed my mind on an army, guaranteed if I have the funds I would do one of every army just because! However I'm currently happy at having a single Imperial army and as single Xenos army, however knowing my track record who knows what will happen in the future!
