Subject: What to do when "house rules" take out certain aspects
So I rarely game anymore at my local hobby shop because bans formations and fortifications and I run formation and fortification heavy SM. The other people at the shop play either Cheesetau or Cheesecrons while I am not allowed ro run cheese myself. Is there a way to talk them out of this?

Question: how are Necrons cheesy without formations?
"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Just ask the players personally if it is ok for this game to use them. The group as a whole might play a certain way but that doesn't mean that you and your opponent have to play that way.
If that doesn't work you can always try to go for the formations are allowed but no command benefits or other benefits of any detachment or formation are gained. That should take the sting out of the formation discussion.

Find a new gaming group, because if there not letting you have fun then there's no point of being there. This is a prime example of why house rules are dumb, you discourage others from wanting to play only because you need to make up rules in order for you to play yourself

They spam Crypteks and 20 man blobs of warriors and have at least 5 d-day arks in the back field

I'm glad that house rules like the ones in my gaming group scare away players like Dman. But they should not be written in stone. You should come up with a compromise with individual players.
Ps. it helps if you are being nice to them and not going for maxed out free transports or some other tricky thing on the first game with formations allowed.

This is how I play unbound armies in a group that doesn't normally like to play against them. Just don't abuse it and try to be nice. So they trust you not to abuse it, and bring something nice to play against.
And just a heads up eldar, and necrons do become way more op when they are allowed to bring their detachment of formations. So don't expect to win a lot more when you are allowed to field them.

Yah, I can see if they ban formations for tournaments or campaigns, but how can the ban them from casual gaming? I mean... does the store manager walks around the table and sees if a game is using formations and if it does, does he stops the game and cast you away from the LGS?
At my FLGS we rotate tournament rules, some allow formations, some don't, others allow FW and so on. Usually we the players suggest or organize the tournament/campaigns with support from the manager the games, following up, money collection for prizes and all that kind of stuff runs by ourselves (When not official LGS events)

After managing to get full Gladius in a 1500 point game, I only took 3 free transports in the one game they let me.
They do come up with reasonable house rules though: Dont spam summoning (this occured after a cities of death game where a chaos player mishap'd and lost 8 squads of bloodletters) and dont run flyers if your opponent isnt (this popped up after I came in where all the other guys have 2-3 flyers and SM flyers look dumb so i didnt buy any)

Well gak.
Everyone plays Unbound.
You play CAD.
You are not allowed formations.
List of other things I cant do:
Use Forgeworld, because its too good
Run Chapter Master beatstick (CM on bike with Shield Eternal and Powerfist) because hes too good
Run fortifications because they are too good
Proxy
Use SM squadrons (cant run tripple vindicators or Preds) because they are too good
Use more than 1 psyker because they are too good
and the list goes on and on and on and on on...

To the OP: find another gaming group. If that doesn't work, try to negotiate with your opponents as to what the both of you are comfortable with bringing. I can totally understand just wanting to play with the standard CAD, but it sounds like some of the players there are using that as a excuse to spread their own brand of cheese and not be called out on it. But with any luck, those players are in the minority and you'll be able to get in games while avoiding them.

That's crazy, seeing as it's a hobby shop that (presumably) sells GW stuff, and GW sells a ton of fortifications. Maybe point out to the shopowner how much more money they could make selling fortifications!
All those Tidewalls that he's not selling...
