Self explanatory, I just started playing maybe 4-5 months back so far. I have been a fan of 40k since the original Dawn of War came out on PC (maybe even further back than that?). I remember when I moved to Pennsylvania back in 2004 I had an interest in the tabletop game and had gone as far to buy a rulebook and a ultramarine starter kit. Painted the models up pretty well for a first timer but I just could not wrap my head around the encyclopedia that was called the rulebook and didn't have anyone to play with either. Years later I picked up the interest again while playing MtG at my FLGS and checking out all the boxes of 40k stuff. Guess I just woke up one morning like "welp, time to learn how to play this damn game finally" and here I am.

I see a lot of new people joining these forums as well and it has me wondering if the interest in 40k tabletop is actually increasing despite what some people may believe.

Coming up on 2 years from when I stared 40k. Me and a friend traded in our current MtG cards for at a really good rate to start playing 40k. I knew about 40k for a few years before that due to the old Harlequin Cast videos of Dawn of War 2: Retribution. It was that game that planted the spores for my love of all things green and orky.

24 years when I stopped a few years ago.

I have only ever played the game as an adult (as it did not exist before I turned 18).

3 years. And I still don't have a painted army for the game.

Curse me and my constant idea changing.

I've had models for 3 years. Been actually playing for 1 year, and like TheCustomLime, I have no painted armies yet. I think I have hobby ADD

25+ years. Now it’s not been consistent, but I’ve played at least a little of every edition, from RT to now.

I've only been playing since May of 2007, when the 4th ed Dark Angels codex came out. I'd been painting before then though. It's fun to see how far you come along in close to a decade:

Its good that warhammer can offer people of all ages something to play for something like 25+ years doesn't matter how young or old you are we're all connected by the game we play, from all walks of life.

I started when 3rd ed first dropped. I can't remember when that exactly was.

Over ten years. I got in at the very tail end of third.

Since 1989.

Started in 1997 at the tail end of 2nd ed. then actively played up until the abomination that 6th ed. is dropped in 2012.

2007, if I remember rightly, in a shop in Wales.
Saw my first miniatures, and was drawn to Cadians and Tau. Got AOBR, took the Ultramarines, and here I am, 8 years later, with 4k+ Ultramarines and 2k+ of Cadians. Still debating Tau.

Played 2nd Edition from like 1995 to 1999 (High School). Sold stuff in like 2002.

Picked it back up near end of 6th.

I'm just barely at 3 years but got into it super hard, I probably dropped 8 grand in the first year at least, which I most def don't recommend. I know GWs focus is new players, but I know tons of old school players and hope to be still playing in 10 years also.

Started when 2nd edition came out my older brother bought the starter set. Had a great time playing orks in 2nd... Played some 40k in the army but the guys in the barracks where more into fantasy so we played fantasy more often. Gave away my stuff when I left the army figured the guys needed it more then I did. Didn't play at all in college just played DnD with some buddies. Started back up in 5th edition and was having a great time till I suffered a brain injury at work. Despite my injury I try to keep playing or trying to play, did not really know what was going on half the time.

I started up back in 3rd, early 2000s I think. So 10+ years until 7th forced me out.

40k is so bad right now and it really sucks for someone like me with so large an investment of time, money and emotion.

I started just 5 years ago with a Black Reach starter I picked up with my girlfriend. I got the Ultramarines and she got the Orks. Got into Guard after that, dabbled in Dark Eldar, then sold both armies to get into Templars. Thought I was done with the game and sold them too. Last week I picked up a couple of tac squads and painted them up as imperial fists. Can't wait to play again but I still think 5th was the best edition.

In 2nd edition, probably 95-96. Back far enough that I bought all the specialist games as they first came out, starting with Necromunda. I still have things like the cardstock punch-outs for the SoB temple and the flats for the Battlefleet Gothic White Dwarf demo.

I actually know a good amount of people back in TN who still play Necromunda. I've been wanting to give it a try as they say its amazing.

I was a little disappointed that the poll capped out at 10+ years myself.
