Are the Wargame Exclusive minis made from 3D printed masters? Or does someone traditionally sculpt the minis that go into the mold? (is it called vulcanization? I'm still pretty new to the mini creation thing)

If they are 3D printed, does anyone know the software, printer, and materials they use? Because those renders are awesome. And if the resin-cast miniatures are as good as reported, I'm impressed - the 3D printed stuff I've seen has way to much stair-stepping to my liking, and I'd assume that transfers to the rubber molds.

Thanks in advance, y'all.

I am 100% sure most of their products are 3D printed. One can see the characteristic striations on close inspection, especially on vehicles. I have no idea on their process, but most designers seem to use the Zbrush program.

I have had some small things printed by a company called Vision Proto in the USA (sallet helmets), and there is little to no stepping present on the product they sent me. 3D printing done by a professional company with a very expensive machine is quite impressive.

I think companies also do some cleanup of the 3D print lines. I've noticed on WGE cars that the SAME car can have 3D lines showing in different places, presumably from different masters for some reason.

All 3d printed items, masters and prototypes have print lines. The exception is SLS but then you have a textured piece that is very porous but doesn't have lines. Even DLP and SLA which print at high resolution have print lines. Usually, they are not visible to the naked eye and require a jewelers loupe to see the line layers. Vehicles and larger items will usually be printed at 100microns for speed and they will show print lines that are visible to the naked eye. Usually, that is removed through the casting process as you lose 5-10% of details or a few light coats of primer.

In some cases, the print lines aren't actual artifacts from printing, but from when they save the file to prep for printing it happens when they are reducing polygons to create a smaller file size. Depending on how they save or it was sculpted, it can result in what appears to be 3d print lines.

SLA/DLP print lines:

Most people are familiar with FDM/FFF 3d print lines which are much different and require a lot of sanding or primer+filler applications.

Wow, could that be any more unintelligible? At what point do you stop, step back, and say, "You know what? That's just too many spikes/skulls..."

I wonder if they're making them preposterously over-detailed in order to avoid the wrath of GW (there's so much going on with some of these models you can barely tell what they're supposed to be)

I believe that's 3 of the 4 assassin types they've made now, or have coming soon. There's already a Vindicare, they showed off a Callidus recently, now they're showing an Eversor, and they even did the Culexus... as a Tau unit.

I want to see them do some other funky stuff for like Eldar or Genestealers!

Yes, I didn't see it at the web store nor on the Grim Skull Facebook page so I figured someone hijacked the thread with another company's work for comparison.

Actually she fits in pretty well with their Sisters range the more I think about it...
