So, I just want to be sure, If I buy War Zone Damocles: Kauyon, Will I have all the new rules for the Tau? I got the old codex and everyone seems to recomend buying Kauyon instead of the new codex if you have the old codex.. Does it contain all the new stuff from the new Tau codex? Is there anything I'd miss by buying it?

It has everything you need, but its a matter of do you even want the other stuff in it? if not just get the codex as it's cheaper.

If it has everything, I might get it. Partly cus I wanna read the fluff and campaign and partly because, I'v been thinking of starting a vanilla marine army so the Raven Guard and White Scars stuff would be intresting.

Thanks for the information ^_^

I got it only because I have white scars and tau, otherwise I would just buy the new dex.

If you have the old tau codex, then buy the kauyon, as it has all the new tau rules and the formations, the new tau codex lacks the formations but has all the tau rules, including the new tau stuff.

Couple things to keep in mind. Some units got removed or updated from the Tau codex, so you'll have to remember what is where. Just that hassle would make me get the Tau codex personally. I can't stand having to bounce back and forth between books.

Exactly what formations are missing in the Tau codex? They're all there as far as I can tell.

If you have the old codex, keep it. Kauyon has a page depicting all the new changes and datasheets for units that changed, as the new formations and datasheets for the fortifications (which the codex is missing). Also, it has new formations, decurion-style formations, relics, warlord traits and tactical objectives for Raven Guard and White Scars.

Nothing was removed from the old codex...

Fire Warriors were removed from the old codex. Not sure if there are more, but that's still something removed. Replaced with Strike Team.

They where not removed, They changed name. They are still the exact same unit, But with a new name. Same models, Same stats, Same rules, Same weapons. Just a new name. Thats not the same as being removed.

I was told Kauyon does not contain the new max unit size for Crisis. Is that actually correct? I'm in doubt such an easy fix would be missed... same with the tank squadrons. Anyone with the book can clear these up?

Warning you now if you hate Shadowsun and/or love space marines and especially the white scars/raven guard you might not like the story.

I loved it myself. Space Marines got utterly wrecked. It makes me want to see a few more unique Tau characters and stories about them and then some miniatures for them.

I'm looking forward to Warzone: Monte'ka.

It's funny because according to the art, she's pretty much killed

Also, I believe the Codex doesn't have any of the Tidewall formations from Kauyon

The Codex does not have the Fortifications.

Fortifications or formations? Reason I ask is stupid auto correct sometimes change what we type. If you do mean Fortifications are they in the Kayuon book then? I almost picked up the book but with so much information about what is what and White Dwarf being actually wrong a few times, I just don't know what to pick up myself.

Yep, Fortifications. Codex has all the Formations from Kauyon, but nothing of the Tidewall. I was surprised about it myself actually.

The new Tau fortifications are NOT in the codex. I believe they are also NOT in Kauyon, but I'm not entirely sure.

I believe the only way to get the rules for them, nicely printed on a dataslate, is in the new White Dwarf (WD92).

Only the entire Tidewall has rules only in its box. Its separate partes (Gunrig, Droneport and Shieldwall) all have datasheets in Kauyon, as there are 2 extra fortification dataslates - one that combine 3 Gunrigs and other with 4 shieldlines, 1 gunrig and 1 droneport, but must be deployed as square-shaped as possible

So I just have the old codex, and have very little interest in the new models. Are there any updated rules or points costs that I need to be concerned about in either Kauyon or the new codex? Or will I be okay just sticking with my old codex? If the only thing changing is a few additions that I probably won't buy, I don't feel like dropping $50 or $75 on a new book that's virtually identical to what I already have.

That's good to hear. Thanks for confirming.
