That was before Shadowsun basically became a lame fish puppet of the Ethereals, I'm guessing.

Otherwise the strings would get in the way.

I'm guessing its going to be Aun'va to die. For one, the picture seems to show Aun'va about to be surprised by an assassin. Second, from a marketing standpoint (the bottom line) I don't think Aun'va sells as well as Farsight or Shadowsun. Third, from a fluff standpoint Aun'va has always been a heel, even to the Tau, so his death can be satisfying to both Imperium and Tau fans alike. Also it never really made much sense that a head of state kept showing up on battlefields anyway, it's not only reckless to the point of insanity, I would also imagine the supreme, executive ruler of an interstellar empire would be too busy running things and passing legislation at home to be travelling abroad.

Well, it looks like the internet wishlisting of a new farsight model isn't going to be fulfilled. I really doubt they'd show the current one if they're going to come out with a new one but there is still a sliver of hope for the supposed February Farsight Enclaves release.

As for the romance, you'd think the pragmatic ethereal caste would encourage Farsight and Shadowsun to mate every possible chance they get before they put Shadowsun on ice and Farsight went bad boy. You don't get much better genetic material to draw from than two of Puretide's students!

Puretide's "students". Perhaps they are his children? That would explain why the Ethereals would not have them mate.

Considering the backstory about Farsight and how he was noticed, vetted, and chosen, I don't see any hint of basis for that. It's already bad enough they're romatically involved.. let's not Star Wars EU disowned first novel Luke and Leia romance them too.

Why does farsight even need a new model? The current one is based off the finecast commander which is only a few years old!

I did not notice the implied incest there. Rest assured that I don't romance Farsight and Shadowsun. That would be like pairing Clint Eastwood with that one woman from FO4 (The one everybody hates, Murphy?)

It is not based off the Finecast Commander model. It's a customized XV8 sized suit. It's significantly smaller than either the plastic or Finecast Commander models.

The ideal situation would be to create and sell a Farsight "upgrade pack" to go along with the plastic Commander model. Make it $20 an include all the bits you need to turn the Commander model into Farsight. Fanboys will say "This is great, Farsight is only $20", not realizing that they're spending $70 on a single IC.

Farsight has a very nice model already, let's not go overboard.

...Although honestly he needs something extra. Maybe a wrecked Titan on his base?

While I agree (despite not actually liking the Farsight model and making my own), I'd point out that it was just random wishlisting online by other folks. Also, they just replaced that finecast commander you referred to with a plastic version. I don't actually think they'll redo it in February but there is that small glimmer of hope given that they redid the enforcer in plastic after only two years. In the meantime, if you don't like the current Farsight you can make your own like Paulson from the new plastic commander

or from the resin now OOP commander like I did.

I never realized the size difference between the Farsight model and the Enforcer commander before Paulson posted the comparison.

and I did.

Is that new math? Because:

Spoiler:

The tau sure do seem to have alot more options than the 40 the Dark Eldar get... and of course that ignores the dozens of kit options that Forgeworld have given the Tau over the past 10 years. That doesn't mean that I think that one of MY armies doesn't need anything more nor that it is totally complete in any way. The point is that it's incredibly disingenuous to claim that they've been somehow ignored compared to the majority of other factions. At worst, they've been in the middle of the pack in terms of support IF you don't include the very above average support FW has given them.

Actually, those ones (and I only see 52) contain bundles, books, ect. We have 29 unit options. including fortifications and ICs (if I've counted correctly). I can give you a more conclusive answer later, but I don't have my books with me. I'm not sure we need new options though, just fix the old ones that are still bad (vespid, stealth suits w/o the formation).

Edit: Looks like deldar are just as bad, sitting at 30

Well of course GW won't make sweeping changes like that. Advancing plot on the galactic scale isn't their thing. You know how they are: "Warhammer, warhammer never changes."

Regardless, it does sound like there will be some interesting ploy points. Interested to see where it where it goes. Maybe it will set up for my other hoped for storyline, where Farsight and Shadowsun use a Necron tomb world to resurrect Puretide.

It's going to happen folks.

That limited edition bundle, it looks like a relatively good deal. Not terribly more expensive than BOTH books an d a set of data cards. If you were getting the whole shebang, it'd be a good deal. Good deal in context of GWs absurd pricing of $75 for a book they'll obsolete in two years.

That was the big disappointment for me with this codex rehash. Yes, they added the formations (which I don't like but free rules that you pay no points for is simply the direction 40k is firmly going in) and the shiny new models but ignored the older sculpts whose rules made them double bad. Stealth suits got a proxy boost but to actually use it you have to pay the $75 new shiny ghostkeel tax. Vespid and Kroot effectively got nothing unless you field 6 units of them. Farsight still doesn't have eternal warrior and was largely shunted to the corners of army construction anyways; that single change (EW) would make him worth taking at least for me instead of a normal commander. All it would have taken was a points reduction to make some of those allied units like vespid at least viable but the focus was pretty much only on the new kits and new army construction method to further Apocalypsify normal 40k.

Torchstar's probably best suited to be a drone babysitter. Put her in a unit of three target locking crisis suits with 8 marker drones between them, she'll confer her BS5 to the drones while the suits shoot at something else and benefit from her MSSS. Reserve her flamers for wall of death.

40k End Times would be cool, if they heralded the release of an 8th edition that was actually good. It really depends on whether I get closure on WTF the Dawn Blade actually is, and how exactly Shadowsun gets her strings cut in the most amazing way possible (or doesn't get the strings cut and just becomes a corpse dangling from Aun'va's hand)

Yes... 13th Black Crusade would be an excellent End Times. It would be a good excuse to kill some old Finecast characters, and make shiny new plastics too.

If AOS had been a resounding success (and the chatter that I read here on dakka as well as see myself locally is that it is NOT), I'd be guessing that they would have End Time'd 40k with the 14th Crusade (didn't the 13th crusade already happen back in 3rd edition?) and replaced it with an expanded Calth ruleset. With that AOS success seemingly lacking, I don't think they'll risk trashing/rebooting their most successful line given the shunting of LOTR to the new specialist games corner and the culling of the post-menopausal Golden Goose that was WHFB.

1. I'll grab that limited set, cause its a way better offering than the ghostkeel. Very tempted.

2. I think I know how the plot will play out, and If I am right, Neither Imperium or the Tau will have controll of the gulf. They keep saying hte tau keep experimenting with imperium Warp tech with naively . I think the Tau are going to open a Warp gate/miniature eye of terror and the system will be lost to Chaos.

Well, there's also the Fire Caste dragging the average down.

If we assume that most Shas'La are deployed as teenagers in human terms, and take the fact that most Crisis teams served together as Fire Warriors... Take into account the standard 6 or 12 man squad sizes of Fire Warriors and 3 man squad size of crisis as any indication... Between 50 and 75% of Fire Caste die before the age of 20.

Gotta take young deaths into account when skewing an average.

Despite my murderous hatred of Shadowsun, and well, the fact that Farsight is too badass for earthly concepts such as "cold" and "warm", that's adorable.
