ITT: humble bragging to the max.

It's not my problem if my opponent sighs and rolls his/her eyes when i put my tau on the table. yeah sure they can deny playing me but then thats 2 people who potentially don't get a game.

My group plays:
BA, Imps, CSM, Ultramarines, GK, Imps, CSM, Imps, Eldar, CSM, Dark Eldar, Orks.
No one is using allys or formations.
My armies are: Dark Eldar (Wychcult), Orks and Sororitas.

We told the Eldarplayer to bring his Imperial Army or only 66% of his opponents points.
We are all happy.
The most "evil" combos in my local meta are: Tigiruis+Tac. Termis+Invisibility and 20 Battlesisters+Inquisitor+Priest.

We don't need to "downplay", we just never started to bring powerlists.

When I'm losing or if it's a brutally close game... I love it.

When I'm winning, easily, I actually feel bad and downplay (make wrong decisions in placement, decide not to shoot at key enemy units or not taking an objective etc.)

Against new players I downplay a bit (we initiate new people at 1000p, so it's hard to bring the big guns anyway).
Against Necron and SM players, no reason to (as they don't downplay against me).
Against the BA/Nid or the DE player, I try to bring less powerful units.

The only real downplay we do as a group is that noone fields Eldar stuff, D-weapons, super-heavies or auto-fire fortifications.

Grav-Cannons are salvo. And in Skyhammer, Devs have relentless. Even with the reduced range and shots from Salvo, DP Devs with Grav out the ass is terrifying.

With or without Skyhammer, it's still pretty filthy.

I actually avoid Grav-Weapons in my SM lists. But that's more because I love me some Plasma then sporting reasons.

Nah, but they're still a pain in the ass on the right target, especially if I can prevent them from being killed on T1.

Wait - you "told" the eldar player he only gets 660 pts vrs your 1000 or army? Just because he likes eldar? Who the feth are you to tell someone that just because they play a certain army and have paid actual cash for that army that they now have a serious handicap when playing you???

Get fething bent.

If someone told me that they wouldn't ever see me again. Let alone get a game. Regardless of what army I play. You have zero right to tell someone they can't play x or y army and if they do well its at a handicap.

Maybe learn how to deal with eldar properly instead of imposing adhoc nazi restrictions on something. I'm glad I don't play In your group. If I did someone would wind up hurt.

Right. They wouldn't see you again... Because you'd have a restraining order... For being a psycho.

Downplaying is totally normal. You can tell when you're starting to snowball/stomp another player and it's usually a simple matter of easing back on the throttle a bit to have a more enjoyable game. Go for an assault you wouldn't normally do. Shoot at a high value squad in cover that you'd normally ignore. Focus on grabbing objectives instead of trying to table the other guy. Often people still have a good time if you run up the maelstrom score as long as they feel like they still have units to play with on the field.

I have no idea what this is in reference to...

And I don't know why you take such offense to people willingly downplaying their own lists to have a more enjoyable game...

I don't think anyone here has actually said they'd force someone to downplay a list (We can always just say no).

Colour me confused.

Is there even anything all that OP about Eldar besides Scatbikes and Wraithknights? I haven't had the pleasure of going against them this edition. Plenty of non-cheese options out there.

Right, do people just instantly jump to the "Eldar" portion of the name, "Dark Eldar"? Because that's what I said.

I also said nothing, at any point about forcing an opponent to lessen their list, or anything about forcing it on them (Nor have I seen anyone else say as much).

This is about self-imposed restrictions you place on YOUR army, NOT the opponent, to make things more fun, more fluffy, more sporting, whatever.

Nice job running in the wrong direction with the wrong stick

I play harlis as my primary army right now, we don't get to downplay or hold back.

I feel bad sometimes because the damage they can do in most house games is pretty obscene.

I'm on an iPhone. Dosent do quotes easy.

I'm talking about the guy who said his group imposes eldar play at 66% of everyone else.

And my point is that I don't care if you "ease up" in a game. Sometimes that's the proper thing to do.

What I DONT. Like is people telling someone else "I don't like your list so it's getting restricted/handicapped" eldar being a common focus. "Oh I don't like wraith Knights and you have one so I get 33% more points" or "his rules are nerfed" or whatever.

If someone pays money for something. Spends time building and painting - they can play whatever they want. Who are you, the guy who did NOT pay for and build my army tell me that because I chose a certain faction I'm now suffering handicaps? Do you have to win THAT Badley? Can you not accept a loss?

All the haters on here about stuff are the ones who LOSE to something and can't stomach it. I'm sorry your super death star of stuff you thought was awsome got taken down by a wraith knight on a scatbike. It happens. Deal with it.

But telling someone else what to play and how to play it is just flat out crossing the line.

It's in fact quite common to do just that. If your opponent is bringing OTT wrath knight + jet bike spam, you can certainly ask they tone it down or not play the wraith knight. This is no different than players asking for no SH/GMC/formations. There is nothing wrong with it. And if your opponent reacts poorly, then you probably weren't going to have a good game with that person anyways. And that's when you simpley move on to another player.

Telling people to take the loss because of the faction they chose isn't really different than asking people to tone down because of the army they chose. Well, one of those makes a bit more sense at least.

The problem is that newer codexes(particularly eldar) plain crush older ones without a bit of toning down. How could anyone honestly think that CSM/Orks/AM/ect can take on eldar spam, and should just take it when they get curb stomped.

I play DA. Before our new codex we were on the bottom, and with our new one, we are near the top. Before, most opponents reacted favorably when I asked they tone down a bit. If they didn't, I simply didn't play them, and usually everyone else did too. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, I am more than willing to accommodate my opponents when they ask to tone it down. In fact, most times they don't even need to ask.

I do agree that a flat points handicap is wrong, unless it was specifically set up between opponents(for example "let's play my 1000pts of jet bike spam vs your 1500pts of csm"). But beyond that specific example, nothing else put forth seems unreasonable.

Ok. Then next game I'm just gonna randomly pick an enemy unit and ask them not to play it cause I think it's op. "Hey I don't like dreads. Don't use yours okay? - but I'm still taking my full list and you better just deal"

Yea. That's awsome.

Seriously.

If you agree to a game - or show up at a league match or something and the other guy deploys, if it's something you don't like you get 2 choices. Play it and do your best. Try to have a fun game and if you lose well whatever. Or, refuse the match, piss and moan about how op/broke/under costed/smelly the other guys army is and forfeit.

Option 2 will Likley see you NOT getting many more games with people, because now your "that whiner guy".

The ONLY time I would accept someone asking me not to play a certain you it or army is In a prearranged game with a close friend and I give him a choice. "Hey I've for x,y.z armies. What do you wanna fight?" - then he can come back with a request. IF he's asking me not to bring a certain unit and I've used it against him already and won with it like 10 times then yea ok. Otherwise it's whatever and we are at each other's mercy and luck for what they bring.

STAHP being a beach about eldar or whatever happens to be martyr of the month and just play the game.

Yeah, let's just ignore the fact that Eldar have blatant balance issues and lists that exploit those balance issues can very easily ruin the game for everyone else if they haven't bought a hardcore tournament army to compete with Eldar. Let's just pretend that acknowledging the fact that Eldar are a problem and trying to fix the problem is the same as banning random units just to be a .

To be fair, if every tournament banned Eldar and therefore sales dropped, maybe GW would do market research to find out why!

If they didn't bother to do that for their flagship game, it's unlikely to happen for a single codex in 40K.

Quite a odd opinion. Sounds like a few people who came to play something a little risky but what would have been fun for them and when you brought something that was just cheese they figured it be a much better use of there time to just get a good meal before his next match, hey he's not winning any money this time but at least he may have fun next game, a few times. And/or when they saw their illusions of a fun filled afternoon of gaming with a friendly bunch of 40k enthusiasts like himself since he really only gets to do this once in a very long time dashed to pieces they got a little angry and maby let you know a little after packing up there stuff, a few times. Now personally I'm both and nether, I do only get a game in bout every 3 months and really like to take experimental lists stuff people usually shake their heads at (though I will say I often pull it off) but when faced with cheese I play, I'm glad to just play but it's not nearly as fun and they always seem a bit too glad to gloat the whole game. Now I point out that this seems to happen to you, and at least more then once, instead of getting angry at a person who does not find you to be fun to play with and call them "that whiner guy", maby realize that you that "I play to be a jerk guy" or at least to those whose day you ruined are seen as. Now I do not know your lists but unless to faceplant every one you face, or at least not ruin some ones day might want to think about what some of "the whiner guys" have said....though prolly not all they were prolly a Lil angry and might not have been 100% clear headed.
