I'd like to find a more in-depth answer to the question "What is the most over powered unit of all time".

What's the best unit available now (from FW or the current ed. Codices) that you could field for the following:

for a 1000pt game?
for a 1500pt game?
for a 1850pt game?
for a 2000pt game?

When thinking about a unit, think about why it's the best. I would describe "best" as: cost efficient, ability to handle multiple threat types, can handle any situation and/or is good for any game type or map type.

Basically - What's the best unit in the came for its points?

For all point types listed, in my opinion, its the Tau XV109 Y'vahra Battlesuit.

A Jetpack MC for 230pts, 265 with FNP. With special movement abilities that lets jump 12-24" every other turn and still retains JSJ. It has a great statline, invuln boosted from 5 to 4++ on close shooting and melee.
It doesn't need markerlight support with native BS4. Has 2 high strength weapons, each specializing in killing either vehicles or infantry and MC's. Can handle a wide variety of death star units as it will negate anything but their invulnerable save and possibly their FNP. Will reduce necons to just their RP.
It can get out of close combat a few different ways if it happens to get caught.
It's cheap enough to field in any of the game types and still field other units of value. Or you can get crazy and field 3 with FNP in a CAD with 2 FW strike teams and an ethereal with some upgrades for 1000pts.

Cons
Short range shooting
Ld 9 - could be vulnerable to psykers
Neutered if forced to shoot snapshots.

I don't understand the question. Is it basically, what's the best unit in the came for its points?

If so, I'm going to go with necron wraiths.

Revenant in each and every case. Completely legit with DE CAD/RSR.

I think it was meant to be more along the lines of how some units are more powerful at certain points levels. Like if you take an imperial knight or titan at low points levels, they are much harder to deal with than in 1850pts+.

In a 1k game, ima give it to a Warhound Titan.

I don't know guys. At 1k points, I could take 25 wraiths. I think they'd kill any Titan out there with hilarious ease.

Surprised no one has complained about wraithknights yet.

Good luck catching the Revenant, even with Wraiths. 36" move, plus shoot and run.

Uh, how many points is a revanant? Cause I'll have even more and can cover the table.

As long as we are playing on a 6 by 4 table, I don't see you getting away with that gigantic base you are standing on.

900 points.

That's neither here or there. D Blasts blow them away for every failed save. It can also hop right over Wraiths with it's movement, so it'll go right to where your Wraiths were and then some more.

Get in combat somehow? 6's to hit, 4's to actually hit it and not the holofields, 6's againto glance. A unit of 6 Wraiths, charging, only does .307 glances.

Wraithknight.

Big enough to be a major threat.
Hard enough to survive all but extreme anti-creature firepower.
Way undercosted.
Cheap enough to allow you to field a passable army to support it.

The revenant is ridiculous, but the OP mentioned being good for multiple game types. A revenant plus a few guys tagging along won't be winning objective game types unless they table the enemy. It's very realistic to assume that an outmatched reasonable opponent will do everything in their power to murder the tagalong units and then dive for cover while hopping on objectives or grabbing maelstrom points.

As said above, a WK in an army, even at 1k, still leaves a lot of room for obsec bikes and the like.

Hmm, you've convinced me that I won't kill you, but you haven't convinced me that I won't catch you. I don't even think you'll kill that many. I'll definitely win the game unless it's a kill point mission. If we're playing kill points, yeah you'll probably win.

You'll be hiding for a few turns while I get all the points and eventually I'll catch you and that will last the whole game. If you come out and capture an objective, you'll get caught.
