After a recent tournement in which I took a Lynx in my army I figured that while it's a good unit I thought that with other forge world there that it would be fine, after my first 2 games I quickly realized that nothing to this point even comes close to this unit it's near impossible to kill and with 2 larger blast D templates it puts the hurt on everything. Can anyone think of a better unit that's 500pts or less then can stand a chance against this.?

So what? You can't even roll dice against my Marauder, so eventually I kill your Lynx.

I had a scartterlazer so I could technically hurt you, but what will your shooting do.? You need to hit me and the. You need to roll a 4+ to actually hit me, then you have to see if you pen or glance me and then I get a 4++, you won't kill it in the 6 turns you'll have to shoot it assuming you come in on turn 2

Sure, the stacking 4++ "saves" will keep you alive, but now you're pinned down on one spot, terrified to move because you know that death is inevitable if you do. You've given up the mobility that is one of the Lynx's best assets, and you still can't actually win the fight. All you can do is hide on your skyshield and hope the game ends before I can take your last HP.

How is hideing out on a skyshield any different than say a plasma obliteration tower. Neither move. But one is at least twice as deadly and twice as resilient.
And as for the lynx, things like it ARE the major contributing reason people shun or outright disallow firgeworld in places. Its like extra weight on the sinking ship that is 40k. Sure it may not be any heavier than a wraithknight or 30 scatterbikes, but THOSE are bolted to the floor, so to speak. Firgeworld is like the loose crates you desperately chuck overboard hoping to stay afloat just that much longer.
Truth is we just need a new boat.

Hasn't it got rear armour 11? New Stealth Suit formation says Hi, usually rocking 2+ cover saves against all Pulsar shots except for the roll of a 6. Similarly it can't do squat Vs Flyrants, or an Invisible unit.
It's a very good unit, but since it is such a large part of your army it opens you up to Rock Paper Scissors kind of play. Any 3 Flyrant list will easily pick off your supporting units and there is very little you can do against it.
So that is why it is toxic for the game, not because it is massively overpowered, but because it causes the game to devolve into ''Can i hit you, if yes, i win, if no, you do.'' Actually, when you think about it, it almost reminds me of Knights...

Sure, I can think of a couple. The Wraithknight should only be slightly less than the Lynx, yet is just as durable and hits a lot harder in CC. Alternatively, the Stormsurge wiht enough markerlight support can easily take one out on the turn it fires twice.
Putting a Lynx on a skyshield isn't a great idea. You're giving up the Lynx's biggist selling point in the form of its mobility, and while the pulsar is a powerful weapon under ITC rules its effectiveness is vastly decreased. You're better off spamming the broken and overpowered units in the regular Eldar codex, as I doubt that most TOs will let the shenanigans in IA11 stand.

the stormsurge is probubly one of the biggest waste of points in the game lol all the shooting on a T6 model. That thing will be dead before it even gets to anchor down.

Not...necessarily. It's still a Gargantuan creature so still benefits from all the dodgy rules (toe in ruins for 4+, standing behind Tidewall, 4+) and can purchase a Shield Generator for a 4++.
I saw a batrept between Lictor Shame and an Eldar army with a Lynx on Skyshield. A Flyrant and Lictor wrecked it.

you must have gotten pretty lucky with your rolls, cuz the holo fields work in combat aswell. And I'm guessing it's a dakka flyrant, even with the 12 s6 shots, you'll hit 11 then you need a 4+ so let's say 6 hit, then you need to glance on a 5+ so maybe 2 and then I have a 4++ so that's maybe 1 hullpoints, the lictor won't do anything to it. Considering you are on a Skyshield and not moving. An invisible unit of Swooping Hawks will close the distance fast and bam 10 haywire grenades.
Is the Lynx a good unit? Yes, very good.
Is it the be-all end-all of units? Not even close.
A unit for less than 500 pts with a chance against it?
A Wraithknight with sword and shield. You give your mobility by staying on the Skyshield. Wraithknight will close the distance and smash you in CC and for 200 less pts.
Harlies with Veil are relatively safe. To shoot you need to practically be in charge range. Caress and Haywire will wreck a Lynx pretty fast and for less than 500 pts.
If you get the Lynx off the Skyshield, you gain mobility but expose yourself to other issues. There is no perfect solution or defense.
(I don't mention other armies because I do not play them. I play Eldar/Harlies/Space Wolves).

the Hawks need to hit with the haywire grenades on 3+ and then need to roll a 4+ to actually hit it. And people are forgetting that the Lynx can fly so if units get to close I fly away 36". And please for the love of god the WK would die before it even got close lol WK are not as amazing as people think they are Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and I would just thunder blitz the Hawks to death haha

The lynx only gets the 4+ holofield if it moves. The hawks would indeed drop significant hullpoints on the charge with haywire, and the tau stormsurge being t6 means absolutely nothing against D weapons so it will be just as survivable against the lynx as a t10 2+ save.
The lynx can be killed, you have weakened it by staying on the skyshield, and IF you do fly away your opponent now has a 4++ to stop you from doing serious damage and if you fire at the people on the landing pad with a blast you will also hit the landing pad. Congratulations on killing your ace in the hole...
