So I got up this morning, strolled downstairs, and it occurred to me I should check Dakka just in case some pics broke.

I took a look, and...

They did it. They really did it.

And how! They hit just about every note perfectly. And it looks like even the fluff made it without being watered down. It's a PATRIARCH and not just another Broodlord.

And Aberrants! One of the project ideas I never got to was converting up "Abominations"...Hybrids gone wrong. My concept was Ogryn-sized, but this is exactly the kind of new stuff I want for GCults.

I could comment on a lot of things, but I think I'm just going to bask for a while. Been a long, long time comin'.

Fantastic work, studio team. The fruit basket arrives when the codex drops.

From a fluff perspective, I'm thinking that the difference of Patriarch and Broodlord depends on the existence of a Cult. All Patriarchs are Broodlords, but not all Broodlords are Patriarchs, but rather only the ones that have spawned a Genestealer Cult.

Are there any rumors about rules to play them in 40k? I would love it if all of the deathwatch guys were independant characters and you could take a formation of 5 or 10 of them as a kill squad/kill team.

Or are there gonna be 2 mini codices for the rules of the GC and the death watch?

That's a good question thinking about it.

To date, the Deathwatch squads have just been an upgrade pack (so they look slightly different) using Sternguard rules (6th ed apoc expansion).

As these marines are from very different areas of the marine codex, I can't see them fielded as a squad together, but rather as independent characters as you say. Similar to the Assassins mini-codex.

Now if that is indeed the case, a Deathwatch mini-codex of independent characters (Like the Assassin codex) then my 5K Deathwatch company has just obtained some seriously cool ICs / Leaders

I mostly think ICs because some of them have wargear that is not normally accessible for regular marines or even sternguard (smokelauncher, frag cannon, powerfist with melta gun etc.). And giving the rest (like the librarian for example) special rules to make them special would also be really cool imo.

Im thinking unbound all independent characters. Even going so far as taking them from their proper codex. Then play a long table "obstacle course" type mission sneaking behind enemy lines.

Amazing job GW! Moral restored! Seriously though, it does feel like the age of Kirby is over and we have entered a new golden age.

wouldn't work since the Imperial Fist has a weapon not available to Devastators.

When playing a narrative based mission like that it plenty acceptable to allow a captain to carry a frag cannon (thanks BA ) and let the termy have a meltagun in addition to his fist and HF.

Also the smoke launcher jump pack..

While proxying them as other wargear is fine, I really hope for special rules for each individual member and rules for the GC aswel. Even if I had to pay for a codex/campaign book.

Oh right, even better

GW have really upped the ante since Execution Force. From 4 new models in the box to 50. If they keep releasing new board games that are worth buying I'll keep buying them.

I'm not sure what would get me as excited as this release though. Like many people I'd like to see more support for Sisters of Battle, though I'd rather see a full release than a board game.

If they did insist on testing the waters with a boardgame though, they have a solid subject for one; Sanctuary 101, Sisters v Necrons, and you could do a fair number of sisters models if you had a small group of bigger Necrons as the enemy.

OMG, that would be absolutely awesome. What a beautiful idea!

Ok, at first I was afraid that the group cult photo is all the models there are for the cult side, but there are definitely more. Thanks for the summary. At that count, CAD $200 seems somewhat justified (for GW, that is That's a lot of models - terrific looking models. And there's a biker SM, too.

Small correction - per WD text, there are 4 Third Gen and 8 Fourth Gen.

Looks fantastic.

Hopefully the Cult and Deathwatch get rules in White Dwarf like when the assassins were released with Execution force. The difference is that was only 4 datsheets when the contents of Overkill would require a lot more.

Am stoked by this release, all of the minis look fantastic. My only issue are the odd poses of the jump Marines, the Blood Angel just looks weird.

This makes you realize how much GW is ( or at least was, since it seems to have changed with the re-introduction of specialist games) not using its IP to its full potential. This set is creating so much excitement and it will probably make me start a full tyranid army. As some have said, a necromunda or a Sanctuary 101 boxset of the same quality would be huge succes

Yeah, it's really nice to see a set containing non-core armies, bah - a totally new faction for that matter!

No there are 6 third gen. 4 with autocannons and 2 with grenade launchers.

Also yea I'm hoping for a last chancers type formation for these guys or like the tau 8 formation. It may not be the most competitive Death Star but it's definitely one of the cooler looking ones.

1st ed Space Hulk and its expansions meant that after Marines, Stealer cults were the 2nd 40k army I ever used. The Death watch are good, but the cult models are just outstanding

This would be perfect. The Necrons could get away with plenty of duplicate poses to beef up there numbers and the Sisters would really benefit from the extra detail that can go into monopose models.
