Unfortunately the images don't appear to work above. Having looking on the blog though I think they have to be some of the nicest alien warriors I have seen.

Cracking work on those bases, very good/disturbing!

Nice! I love the glossy heads, and you've made interesting use of a monochromatic scheme with limited spot colours. Reminds me of the Sin City movies in that respect. My minor criticism is that the bases, while fantastic, look a little too close to the models in colour and brightness to my eyes (it could just be the photos).

Those glossy heads on the aliens are absolutely (underlined and in bold!) spot on. Got the look from the movies absolutely nailed.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Quick question on the game cards that come with figures, is the KS exclusive Berserker Predator supposed to have a stat card as per the other models?

Got the infants and stalkers mostly painted for our first game on Saturday. Still need to do a bit of detail and something with the bases... (BTW I prefer chamfered bases.)

Relatively quick and dirty paint as follows:
Prime black
Drybrush with a medium warm gray
Drybrush with a 3 or 4:1 mix of Tamiya Smoke (transparent black) and Gunze Sanyo transparent blue. Both are gloss paints.
Add a couple of coats of the smoke/blue mix to the top of the head to increase the gloss.

The idea with drybrushing the gloss is to have the recessed areas stay flat and have the gloss only on the raised areas to increase contrast between the two.

Hello my Dear Fellowes ^^

Here I come back and first of all : Happy new year for you and your Clan !!

I wish all the AVP backers get finally their pledge !! So the last info is about... end of this month... I hope so...

As my answers come :

@ Ruglud : thank you very much for fix my pics problems ^^'

@ Pacific : Thank you very much for your comments ^^ I'm very glad you like my paintjob. I'm very proud about my glossy effects heads indeed !!

@ Soul Samurai (I like this name !! ^^) : thank you very much for your comments !! Hum... That's right : I didn't noticed the analogy with Sin City ^^. For the bases, I think it would come from the photos : I don't have a very good studio : I just put minis near a windows (when the weather is ok) or under my living room light (when it's raining or it's the night)... and my camera is not pretty good

@ Timd : Very good job !! ^^ Your paint scheme is interesting and I didn't think about smoke Tamiya... But AFAIC, your bases are a little "poor"... On such beautiful minis... ^^'

@ Ktulhut : Very very great job indeed !! O_O

Your Aliens are absolutely dark, your predators look very dangerous and your marine + colonial stuffs are excellent !!

I like your converted pred in particular. What sort of arms did you use ? This is not GW Dark Eldar but what is it please ?

Yesterday night, I've glued my Alien Warriors and my Royal Guard... stay tuned ^^

Morikun

Okay peeps, I have a few questions about this wacky game. If anyone can lend a hand with answering, please do

Last year I stayed clear of AVP since it sounded like the Kickstarter was going in a bad direction. However, when Christmas came around I got the boardgame, plus a bunch of the expansion boxes. I've got 5 extra Marines, the Powerloader, the Queen, Predalien, two Royal Guards and a bunch of warriors. So that's all cool.

As a word of advice - if you grab the boxed set made by Games Factory named "Apocalypse Survivors - The Women" there is a dead-on Newt, great Ripley (the model that looks like she's holding the Aliens flame thrower) and enough spare parts to easily convert a Vasquez Smartgunner plus (with a little skill and green stuff) add another Ripley to the Powerloader. Seriously, whoever made that boxed set had Aliens in mind.

So now the question - am I correct in thinking that to date there is no sign (besides prototype model images) of: Alien eggs, facehuggers, Sentry guns, the female Predator, Beserker Predator, or the damaged android counter? No one has any of these yet?

Furthermore, is there any hint from Prodos regarding when any of these are going to be released? I assume the facehuggers will be coming first (if at all)? But to be honest top of my wants list would be the Sentry guns.

Also - am I correct in thinking that we won't be seeing any official/Prodos movie-related minis? (e.g. Ripley, etc)

Lastly, as a game rules question - why do the young Predators have the same Seasoned Hunter trait as the older Predators? I think it would be more interesting for the youngbloods to behave differently and have different traits from the veterans.

p.s. Why do the official Prodos modellers and most other folks put the tails on the Aliens upside-down? O.o

1) To make the spot-on Newt, you actually need both male and female kits. I'll post a pic shortly. Which head reminds you of Vasquez? I've built like 40 of these models and never noticed any resemblance.

2) Alien eggs and the Berserker Predator are starting to reach backers. According to Prodos, all models will be released by the end of feb, but let's just say, we're all skeptical about that. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Berserker Predator is a KS exclusive and will not be sold at retail.

3) No movie models, the likeness of the actors is crazy expensive.

4) No idea about the rules, probably just a lazy copy/paste and not intentional? Or they're going with the idea that youngbloods have hunted plenty, they've just never killed an Alien. Only Prodos knows.

5) The tail thing baffles and infuriates me too, which is why mine have their tails on the right way.

Thanks for the awesome answers. To make my movie characters I:

- Newt: Took the girl model from the boxed set I mentioned. Helmeted head. Unarmed left arm that's made for the girl. Right arm is the one holding the arrow, with the arrow removed and arm posed as if the girl is reaching for her right shoulder. Did this mainly because I didn't like the way the right arm attaches at all and the bent "arrow arm" covers this up nicely.

- Ripley: Took the running pose woman from the Women boxed set. Shouting head with Ripley-style "mop" hair. Right arm wielding a grenade (it looks like the flares Ripley used in the movie). Unarmed left arm with open hand, with a converted combo Flamer/Pulse Rifle attached. Green stuff used to create a strap around both guns and another going all the way over her shoulder so the guns look roughly like they did in the movie.

- Vasquez: Standard Smartgunner model, head clipped off and replaced by the short haired female head, since it was the only one I could then add a simple green stuff headband around

- Hudson: Took the "shouting" Marine. Added the two largest-looking arms from the Women boxed set (lol), both unarmed. Clipped the motion tracker off a Marine arm and attached it to the new arms. so he's basically unarmed, running away screaming with just the motion tracker

- Frost: took a random Marine and burdened him down with a bunch of pouches/bags to represent Frost having to carry everyone's ammo in the hive battle.

- Dietrich: took the "hopping" Marine and totally replaced the raised leg since it looked daft, especially with more than one mini using that pose. Clipped the head off, replaced with the helmeted girl head from the Women boxed set. Kept the standard flamethrower, since that was her weapon during the hive battle (which she used with great skill to murder and explode Frost, heh).

- Hicks: Random Marine, replaced his pulse rifle with a shotgun from the Women boxed set (of course!)

- Ripley II: Took the powerloader and removed the Marine's head. Added the same type of female head I used on the other Ripley. I had to cut away the opaque part of the canopy, and move its top crossbeam higher up, to fit the canopy around/over her new head. I agree that this model is a bit too small. Not comically small, I can live with its size but the model does look a bit silly standing next to the Predators, Royal Guard and Queen. The character is the right size, but the loader itself is undersized.

- Drake: regular Smartgunner

- Apone/Crowe/Wierzbowski - regular Marine models

Leaves me with one Marine spare out of two squads.

So far no Bishop, Gorman or Burke, I'll check out the Men boxed set to see if I can make them from that.

Just following the stupid directions on the assembly sheet?

Was looking at the sheet and went WTF? Did a bit of research and put them on the right way...

They were explicitly designed that way though, it's not just an error on the instruction sheet. I can only assume it's because their solution to the problem of tails sticking out behind figures cluttering up the board was to have them curled threateningly over the shoulder, ready to strike, and to have them the "right" way up in that pose without twisting means having them technically upside down.

Another question - is it me, or are the rules for Doors completely missing from the official instructions that come with the boxed game?

I was trying to invent a custom rule for Burke on locking doors and found only one passing reference to them in the instructions

EDIT: never mind, found them now

Is the game actually any good?

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis
