To invent a new verb... to be "Tombkinged".
(Means the same thing as squatted but at least we have an alternate word for it)

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

Looks like Krell has definitely gone from the background then. Shame as he has been around for ever (pre-slotta), and was always one of the best special characters in the fluff.

Yep, all the special characters bar the Mortarchs and Nagash have been turned into generic character models.

Also one of the best special characters GW has ever sculpted IMO. Fantastic model.

Definitely. So was the one before the current one.

Yeah, but the end times really brought him out into the foreground a lot more and let him show his bad self. Would have happily read more of that. Ah well, still need to pick up the original model so I have all three.

I feel sorry for the Tomb Kings players. Man, stuff like this makes me nervous! There's a lot of WFB stuff I kinda sorta want to get my hands on, but I don't want to splurge hundreds of euros doing so right now!

Weird move. The Tomb King spirit will live on in 40k. Plot twist: the TK range is removed and in the AoS "plot", the TK go to sleep.

Yes! I am hoping they don't push put a "Grand Alliance of Order" book too soon. I'm not ready for the cull it will bring.

I think because they are merging the Undead back into one faction, and the VC and TK don't mix visually or thematically? I actually wish they had taken this opportunity to redo some of the VC stuff that is being merged into the new "Death Grand Alliance" as some of those figures are looking a bit dated, especially compared to the style of the End Times releases like Nagash, the Mortarchs, Morghasts, and Spirit Hosts.

I kinda feel like they should have just done 3 alliances instead of 4 now.. Thematically 4 seems right, but if Death is just nuVC, there's gonna be the least variety compared to the others now. Should have just added undeads to Destruction?

Really never thought they'd wipe an entire range.

[EDIT]: Also, another question for TK players. The Necrophinx thingy. D'ya think that the top of that (the guy with the blade arms, not the creature) could fit on the legs of a Defiler to make a kind of Tzeentchian Defiler?

They're not gone forever though are they, GW just won't be the ones selling them any more.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

[EDIT]: Follow-up question. If I was to do that ^^^, would there be enough parts left-over to build the Warsphinx?

It would have to be tailless, but yeah pretty much. Man, I have a small TK army and since I'm tapped out for the month, I won't be able to pick anything up. In case I'm too late, does anyone know any good alternatives to the casket of souls?

Looking at the news about the Tomb Kings, I'm reminded that it took GW forever to get the final TK army book released. It had been ages since the book had last been updated when the new book finally hit the shelves. And rumors about a new TK book on the verge of release had been floating around for over a year when it finally reached shelves. Makes me wonder if no one at GW likes them.

It'll be a shame if they're squatted. I find Tomb Kings to be the most distinctive army in the setting. And both thematically and in playstyle, there's no other army quite like them. VC and necromancers (when the latter were separate) are the undead mob. Tomb Kings are the undead professional military.

I have no interest in zombies. I couldn't care less about vampires. But formed ranks of skeletons accompanied by constructs fashioned from bone and stone makes a pretty awe-inspiring image. And the Egyptian-themed motifs only make them look even better.

I really feel for TK players. Not fun having your army get removed.

It's not too surprising though. The TK line had so much resin that putting them into plastic would have been a big investment for GW, and the Fantasy lines haven't had the purchase rates to justify that cost.

Settra? He was resurrected by the Chaos Gods after Nagash killed him in book 1. They told him to go take revenge on Nagash, and obviously Settra doesn't like being ordered around. He finds Nagash, saves him from a demon, tells Nagash that he'll kill him after he kills the Chaos Gods for trying to make him do their bidding.

Settra does not serve.

Fortunately I still have an obscenely large amount of tomb kings and vc that I bought after the nagash reintroduced the undead army. Stopped building it when AoS came out. I'll get back to it I'm sure, just hard to stick to square bases, but there is no way I'm buying 1000+ round ones.

Very sad day, but even as a player with 4,000pts of Tomb Kings, I am not surprised. Lovely imagery, great fluff, but the model range is poor in places. The character models in metal were great, though I didn't like the Finecast 8th edition models (Necrotect, Liche Priest) that much. The Core models were very old; they looked good enough on the table, but that is thanks to having great big shields that allowed freehand, and drybrushing giving decent and quick results. The other units were all beautiful, though: my 38 metal tomb guard are a fearsome sight, and the monsters were all full of character.

Their play style was really nice. Quite a defensive army, with heavy magical buffs and character models that lead rather than focused on beating stuff (even if they were also pretty tanky). They had this image of unstoppable competence on the few occasions that I could overcome the bad rules to win with them: all the bits worked together, and the opponent found his models dying in droves as skeletons advanced slowly over them. The fluff and rules were tied together so well that fluffy lists were easy to write, and those fluffy lists tended to look great on the table.

I recently rebased all of my High Elves, but decided not to bother with the Tombies - for a start, too many of them. At least I don't regret that decision, now! They will continue to antagonise my players in my D&D campaign, and also I will have them for KoW, 8th, or 9th, if any of those manage to acquire a fanbase big enough to play against locally.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two GW re-released the plastic kits, alongside some new ones. If you think about it, they could add these kits to a trio of new plastics, give them a themed book and make it part of a specific storyline, and perhaps make the concept work well as part of a small and targetted release. Like the Fyreslayers, who are a themed 'army' of slayers, but really consist of about 7 individual boxes. I mean, I don't think that I would give good odds of this, but it might happen.

Why didn't I buy a Necrosphinx when the Euro kicked the pound around :/ Still, I'll HAVE to buy one before it's gone. Such a sick model.

No idea why they're squating such a model instead of keeping it for AoS or at least retooling it into a Necron kit.
